First episode, love it! Thanks for doing this, I love seeing a game played. :) One quick note for the presenters (may edit if it was determined later on, stopped at 26:22 to comment when it was stated that she had to roll every round) : The Olivia Crossroads card is an option, not a requirement. The text reads "she may experiment" then provides instructions on how to experiment. She doesn't *have* to roll for it. Thought it might be helpful to clarify. :) Keep up the awesome videos guys!
Thanks for the kind words! You're absolutely right about the roll being optional, we should have clarified that a bit better during our discussion. The reason I ended up voting that down was because I knew they would always want to trigger that every round, despite it being optional...especially with Jeremy gently convincing them of how good was :)
Thanks for the Video! I really enjoy the Replays, but episode 17 and 9 was my personal best, simply because i could watch the full game and then afterwards watch the discussion. I´d love to see the Fullgame Video to all your coming episodes if possible.
First off, thanks for watching! As far as more full game videos, this is something we're definitely looking to do in the future. In fact we shot this one with that in mind and may end up putting the full game up at some point. We were just thinking that the static angle we have doesn't lend itself very well to a 2+ hour game unfortunately. With all the cards we're reading and interacting with, it might be tough to know what's going on all the time. It's also kind of a lot of footage to go through and do even the minor edits on (things like bathroom breaks or sometimes occasional foul language :P ). However, we're going to be shooting several episodes of full game play videos for our Descent campaign shortly and we'll be using that time to experiment with the best format and camera set up for full games. I think once we find our groove with it we'll end up doing them more frequently and have better quality results...stay tuned!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, we talked for a whiiiiile. There was a fair amount more time spent jabbering but I cut it down for length. It was just an intense session so we couldn't stop chatting about it!
This seems like the perfect game for this series. I've never had the chance to play it, but between this show and watch it played, I can't wait to pick it up.
Thanks Lyle! This one was a lot of fun to play and we all had so much to talk about after...it worked out really well. Hope you get a chance to get a copy to the table soon!
Sorry, I must have missed the notification for this message before. The table here is an IKEA Bjursta. With the leaf that's in there the length is roughly 65". Hope that helps!
Another awesome episode... I Think this game really depends on the group you play with... my first 2 plays of the game I didn't like it that much and it was because of the people playing... It even caused me to sell my copy of the game... Then I played it one more time with a completely different group and it was a blast... It's a game I will gladly play with the right people... And another great episode guys :)
As always Paulo, thanks very much! I'm sorry to hear this one didn't work out for you at first. It definitely does need the right group and the right mindset to get the most out of it. I'm glad you were able to get the full experience of the game from that other group though. It took us a few games really find the "best" way to enjoy this one in our group, but we've definitely found it. Finishing up this game everyone was excited and happy, including the losers and that's the sign of a good game!
Thank you Andres, that's nice of you to say! We've had a lot of suggestions for Twilight Imperium so it's one I definitely need to pick it up and try. We did however make a video for Eclipse a few weeks ago if you want to check that out. I know it's not the same thing, but many refer to it as TI3 "Lite" :) Thanks so much for watching!
Great as usuals guys. This is a game I've looked at but discounted as one to get, but after watching this you've got me wondering whether I should get it. You made it look really fun and your explanations were really interesting. The main problem is that a couple of the guys in my group are not into zombie games, but we all enjoy the semi co-op games so I'm wondering if the game play would be good enough to counter the theme.
Yeah, I can understand some people not liking the zombie theme. As you could probably see from the video though, it's is a bit different than the standard "run around and kill stuff" zombie games. It's really more about the social aspect of being survivors and working together. Still, the theme is tied into absolutely everything so if they REALLY don't like zombies it might be tough to get them into it. I'm glad you enjoyed this though...thanks a lot for watching!
great vid awesome play! :) i dont know if i fully got it but how is the "replay" in this kind of game, i mean, since jeremy needed the 4 barricades non-col and you needed only 1 doesn't it became suspicious when you already know the "roles" after some game plays? Thank you by the way :)
Thanks so much, very glad you enjoyed it! You certainly raise a good question about replay value too. I think the answer I have for that though is that it's still pretty high. It's well designed so much of the time non-betrayal secrets are similar to betrayer secrets. So even if you've played enough to see and know all the secret cards, you'll still never be sure. On top of that there are so many other variables, especially the social deduction / intrigue that always keeps things interesting.
I wanted to ask a few things I didn't understand about some rules. 1) What does it mean you can take 1 food token and increase unused die by 1? Can you take all the food from the colony for yourself? Also what does it mean when a zombie overruns an entrance? Is that for every location or only in a colony?
+Brandon Morris During their respective turns, non-exiled players may remove any number of food tokens from the community supply, adding 1 to one of their die rolls for each token they spend, so yes, players can use up all the food at once if they wish. If there is not enough food in the supply to feed all of the survivors who are in the colony at the end of each round (1 food token for every 2 survivors), the colony starves for that round and morale drops by 1 (then by 2 the 2nd time it happens, by 3 the 3rd time etc.), so spending all the food this way is a tactic that someone may use if their secret objective is to betray the group. However, once someone is exiled, they may no longer spend food tokens. Zombies can overrun the entrances of any of the 7 locations. At the end of each round, 1 zombie is added to each non-colony location for every survivor present there, and 1 zombie is added to the colony for every 2 survivors present there. If the entrance to a location is already full of zombies and another one needs to be added there, that location is considered to be overrun, and rather than placing another zombie on the board, the lowest-influence survivor at that location is killed. If further zombies need to be added, each one kills an additional survivor, so it's possible for multiple survivors to be killed at a single location at the end of a round.
+Brandon Morris Yes, thank you very much Andrew! My apologies for not responding sooner Brandon, RUclips is a little wonky with notifications and I didn't see yours come through. Sounds like Andrew cleared everything up though, thanks for watching! :)
Thanks David, glad you enjoyed this one. My comment here is a few months late so I apologize. I must have overlooked the notification! Hopefully by now you've been able to get your hands on a copy of this great game!
Thanks Matt! I actually have purchased the game since this episode aired and played this weekend. Good times but no trader this play through. Made me kinda sad but we had 3 new folks playing so it was a good opportunity for them to learn the game.
Ahh, great to here you got a copy! It's tough to get ahold of these days! I think you're right about the no traitor first game this too. It's probably best for a first game to just teach everyone how it all works. It's funny as we thought for a few times that we wanted to increase the odds of the betrayer, or even guarantee one for each game...but then decided against it. Even in games where there is no betrayer, there's still an insane amount of tension as you're just waiting for someone to try and spoil everything. The constant distrust is always there, betrayer or not, and it always makes things intense! Best of luck on future games!
I have one question. Let's say I roll a frost bite and add the token to my survivors card. If left untreated, does the next token get added at the start of the next round or on a players turn? Because it seems like you are basically dead if you have 2 frost bite tokens at the end of your turn. Another way of saying it is: If you have to add third frostbite at the start of your turn, you obviously can't use that character anymore. Or can you still use that character but then it dies at the end of your turn? I hope this makes sense
When you add a wound on the next round after getting frostbite, you add a basic red wound (it's in the rules). Not a second frostbite. You can then heal the frostbite and live with the basic wound, that doesn't get multiplied.
Thanks Rex, really glad you enjoyed this one. DoW has definitely been a hit with our group. I seriously think it's impossible to play this game without having several stories to tell at the end!
Ahh, I see what you're saying. Actually the part where we add zombies is later in the round. The order is Check Food, Check Waste, Resolve Crisis, Add Zombies, Check Main Objective. Jeremy's objective card said that he wins if our Moral was at 0 and he had 4 barricades at a location. Since our Moral dropped to zero before the Add Zombies step, the game ended there and he won. Hope that helps!
If the round had continued, that would happen, but the game ends immediately when the moral track reaches zero. So while resolving the Crisis for the round, our moral dropped and the game ended. Resolving the Crisis happens just before zombies spawn, so all those barricades stayed in tact! Hope this helps!
Sorry if that spoiled the video for you. Generally with this format we start the discussion talking about the results of the game. This usually helps set the framework for the various things we'll talk about. In this case by saying we had a close game, ending with a traitor victory we thought it would help show the importance of various decisions we made during the game. That was our intention anyway :)
Board Game Replay I think the format and quality works well. This is my 3rd time watching this video because I love the game so much and its so funny to see you guys react to Jeremy lol :)

Awesome job guys, the replay you guys did is making me look forward to trying this more and more!
Thanks Zach! I hope you get to try this one soon!
my absolute favorite game, and this post-game discussion captures exactly why... thanks, great video!
Awesome Rafael, really glad you enjoyed this one. It was a lot of fun to play it with these guys! Thanks a lot as always for watching and commenting!
Fantastic session, perfect game for your format. So much to chew through when you finish :)
Thanks a lot! Yeah, we talked for a whiiiiile. There was a fair amount more time spent jabbering but I cut it down for length. It was just an intense session so we couldn't stop chatting about it!
Master strategist Jeremy strikes again!
Sighhh.... Yep :P

Weird question.... is the table in the video a 60in or 72in?
Sorry, I must have missed the notification for this message before. The table here is an IKEA Bjursta. With the leaf that's in there the length is roughly 65". Hope that helps!
Thanks 😀
Did anyone see the zombies come alive at 3:35. Creepy
Hah! Good catch! I must have bumped the table with my leg :)
I can't wait to get this. This made me want it more!
I hope you're able to get a copy soon...thanks for watching!

I watched it... amazing! Subscribed to the channel for sure!
Thanks so much, glad to have you!
Great and exciting video. You guys must had a blast playing this game :)
Thanks so much Dariusz! Sorry I missed this comment several months back...must have not received a notification! :)
yeah this was a good play guys. Thanks for posting.

Hey great vid and great Extra Life tee!! Was wondering how you recorded audio, sounds really good!!
+LaParure Thanks so much for checking it out, glad you liked it! The mic we were using the is the Canon WM-V1. Hope that helps!

+Board Game Replay No problem, hope I didn't steal anyone's thunder! Thanks for making the video!
I look forward to playing this once the game becomes available. Thanks for the replay!

Hoping to play Dead of Winter with my group on Saturday. I've had my copy since before GenCon and have been dying to play it.
Well I certainly hope you get it to the table this time...good luck! :)

+Adam Cornish It is added on your turn of the next round. You arent dead if you have two frostbite necessarily, someone can heal you.
+fuloran1 Thank you for responding to this! My apologies for not seeing this comment Adam. I hope this answers it for you!

Wouldnt you guys add zombies and brakes his barricade?
I'm not sure which part you are referring to. Could you give me a rough time?
At the end of your game he barricaded for his secret but because his survivor is there doesnt that spawn a zombie before the end.

Wait...wouldnt him being at the police station still add a zombie?? Thus breaking a barricade
If the round had continued, that would happen, but the game ends immediately when the moral track reaches zero. So while resolving the Crisis for the round, our moral dropped and the game ended. Resolving the Crisis happens just before zombies spawn, so all those barricades stayed in tact! Hope this helps!

Haha, thanks Rex :) Glad to hear you've been able to enjoy it more than once...That Jeremy kid. I love him, but he's too damn clever!
