      +BANGER Finally I got it verified. I didn't have the time to sit down and give my opinion. But I was always confused about how .....For Victory could be grindcore. Carcass was my introduction to grindcore. And I have one word for melodic death blah blah. Swansong etc... : DIATRIBES Thats one is more melodeth than Heartwork and Swansong combined.

      Jay Ray From what I have learned watching reviewers, music is the easiest way to get your video taken down.... They would have to get the rights to play even short bits of music.

      Loved, loved this episode! Pertaining to the sub-categorization of Grind and it's moreso incestuous- nature of compilations, covers and collaborations, that was a good move putting up Goregrind. Pornogrind, Deathgrind, Cybergrind, are just as important in today's evolution of the genre. Deathgrind would have your bands like Aborted (based on certain combinations of riffs, breaks, and drum stylization), Beknghted, Magrudergrind, Cattle Decapitation; Other Goregrind bands to add should be The Day Everything Became Nothing, Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, and Last Days of Humanity-- And don't forget Lymphatic Phlegm and it's amazing medical terminology and graphic artwork akin of Carcass and Mayhem album covers from a couple years before.
      Pornogrind bands like Cemetary Rapist, SpermSwamp, Rompeprop, Waco Jesus, Prostitute Disfigurement, etc..
      Cybergrind took off after Ministry and Kovenant, lots of Noisecore aspects in Cybergrind too like the Locust (bands like the Berzerker absolutely). Powerviolence is just Hardcore with balls. Haha.
      *side note- I saw Fuck the Facts live about 4 years ago at the Frequency in Madison, WI and they were absolutely terrible (even for Grind standards).

    Just for the sake of your show's reputation, there has to be a PART 2 to this... and do a way better job on the subject of grindcore. There is NO way AGATHOCLES (the longest running active grindcore band since 1985) was not even considered here.

    Man they totally forgot the rest of the grindcore band: Righteous Pigs, S.O.B., Unseen Terror, Old Lady Drivers, Assück, Blood, Defecation, Blood Duster, Wormrot, Lock Up, Trap Them, NAILS, Impetigo, Cripple Bastards, Misery Index, Phobia, ACxDC, Nausea, P.L.F., Cretin, Wake, Exit-13, Magrudergrind, Birdflesh, Soilent Green, Antigama, Unholy Grave, Impaled, Exhumed, & Agathocles. For Goregrind: General Surgery, Regurgitate, Haemorrhage, Dead Infection, Last Day for Humanity, Squash Bowels, Machetazo, Disgorge (Mexico), & Viscera Infest. That's all the bands I know.

    Just putting it out there, but Deathgrind is a genre. Aka, this is where you'd put Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage, Misery Index, and latter day Napalm Death (though they should obviously stay in Grindcore for their massive influence).

    I think there is a need for a second episode. I also can't believe Assuck wasn't discussed. In talk of of innovation and influence they were shockingly groundbreaking. They had two releases in 89, and they were onto the "Florida Death Metal" sound, while still sounding punk rock, with extremely socio-political lyrics

    Cattle Decap, glad they're on here, IMO, if you go back to their demos, early EP's, then on to "To Serve Man" "Humanure" and "Karma. Bloody. Karma" that all is pretty grindcore, and with "THF" "Monolith" and "Anthropecene Extinction" they fall more int a Deathgrind category, so i do believe they deserve to be up there

    Carcass is one of the forefathers of Grindcore

  • @wouterblieck1877
    @wouterblieck1877 8 лет назад +1

    I personally consider Grindcore as an extreme version of HC/Punk! From that point of view, Goregrind is imo more related to Death Metal (although lyrically). Also; Extreme Noise Terror is/was pure HC/Punk (they got their name from a Dutch HC band called 'Lärm' - one of the first European Straight Edge bands) & Bolt Thrower is a Death Metal band (although one of their primar influences was U.K.'s Sacrilege, one of the first Stenchcore/ Crust/ Crossover bands). Most imporant bands who started the Grindcore subgenre; U.K.'s (early)Napalm Death (off course), Belgiums Agathocles, Japan's S.O.B. & U.S. Terrorizer! I also refuse to label technical fast Death Metal bands as Grindcore...

  • @satinstruthers4471

    Fear Of God ‎(As Statues Fell, 1988) is a pretty seminal one. Not sure how influential. Carcass should be in there. Maybe Last Days of Humanity-as one of the longest running and best goregrind acts-too. Rather than Cephalic Carnage.

    I have a strong advice for you guys after I've watched many episodes of Lock Horns. You guys should base on albums, not bands. What albums contribute to to one specific genre. 'Cause in a lot of cases, bands change style. That's where argument comes from.

    @DrewKane 8 лет назад +2

    The guy giving the powerviolence description is WAY off, in my opinion. Powerviolence is just hardcore punk with a lot of time signature/tempo changes, with the addition of blast beats. Powerviolence shares a lot more in common with hardcore than metal, although a lot of bands do play a cross between grind and PV. I would never dare consider Spazz, Charles Bronson, Asshole Parade, or Infest as metal bands because their music mostly resembles hardcore punk in presentation, aesthetics, lyrical content, and sonic style.

    Agree about keeping Carcass . . .
    Was lucky to get into them when they debuted stateside. The lyrics were disgusting, but that they matched the "music" with lyrics (what if rotting guts made music! D: ) was waaay ahead of its time. As Sam said, there was no such thing as "Gore-Grind" yet. They STARTED as a Grindcore band, Napalm Death and Carcass brought the brvtality to the world and all followed.
    Carcass and Napalm should stand at the TOP.
    The "Kids" should listen to the 1st 3 albums to hear why they are/were considered Grindcore.
    They definitely could be in 3 categories. I'm all for Terrorizer as well! They are one of the 1st I heard on a early Thrash, Death and Grindcore Radio show from Claremont College KSPC called "Infernal Rage" by a student who was 18 from Seattle BEFORE the "Grunge" era. And Brujera as well.
    Not that they were influential (maybe in Japan), I wanted to mention Japan's "S.O.B.", I believe was the 1st Japanese Grindcore band that I thought should've been mentioned in "Global Metal" (sadly the vocalist committed suicide in 1995).
    Also "Godflesh" was another I heard when they debuted, they were included on the "Grindcrusher Compilation", but Hellbastard was included as well, who seem more Thrash (also see: "OLD/Old Lady Drivers" Grindcore meets Mr. Bungle).
    And what about "Disharmonic Orchestra"? They were . . . different.
    Sorry I missed the discussion :(.

    I don't know how I feel about their definition of powerviolence. While a lot of newer pv bands have that big, sludgy sound, a lot of the older bands were more about being loud, violent, and abrasive without being too metal. Powerviolence songs are shorter, less structured, and have much more hardcore influence than grindcore songs. Infest is a great example of this, with a lot of their albums being the end-all-be-all of the genre for many fans.

    If you do a part 2, make a cybergrind branch too. Genghis Tron needs to be in the pantheon!

    You missed Impaled. They sorta lean more towards melo deathgrind or goregrind.

    Please finish Doom Metal and do a Post Metal and Experimental Metal. Neurosis, Isis, maudlin of the Well, Kayo Dot etc. deserve discussions.

      Siege was ment to be hardcore and was in the hardcore scene but was way faster than hardcore and no one knew how to name it. Proto power-violence, proto-grindcore.
