      Also when fps & $$$, It will cost you about $4200. to get the D850 to 9 fps. Now the price more than doubles! Depends on how long it will take you to save & the way you look at life. In my opinion if it will take you 6-8 months to save for the D850 , its worth it. Other wise get the D500 now. You know how many pics tou can get in 6 months!

    I have been trying to make up my mind on which Nikon FX would be my next buy. I am shooting portraits (not studio,no tripods) and I've been reading that the 800+ series is not the one for the job because you get more "shaky" images and bigger files which render your machine slower for post processing. As a professional that have worked with the 800 series, and the fact that stabilisation is on the lens rather on the body, what's your opinion on this? Thanks a lot!

    The problem with manual focus on DSLRs without focus peaking is the lack of interchangeable focus screens,. i.e. split prism and equally interchangeable viewfinders like we had on high end slr cameras in the film days.

  • @ThomasAndresdaBronx

    Thanks for the comparison to the Fuji X-T2. Really love that camera and was planning to pick one up as a smaller, lighter alternative to my GFX that I could use when travelling. Now, I'm a little torn. Love the styling of the Fuji much more so than that of the Nikon, however, given the capabilities and flexibility of the D850 it might be the wiser choice, especially since the bulk of my photography is landscapes, still life and portraiture.

I wanted a mirrorless, but must learn first. But your advice would be appreciated. Yes, I figure you'll say get d850, an d continue learning on 7200. I'm not rich. But would HATE to miss out on a 2500$ savings in exchanging it. If I keep the 500, I'll feel like I've got almost 2 same cameras. So I'll read ur minds, get 850

    I would hate to be a Canon shareholder at the minute. Behind their nervous smile would be sheer panic and the uncontrollable tears of disappointment. Nikon is God of DLSRs and on their anniversary year they have announced their intentions to remain at the top of the pyramid. Now I know the all-seeing eye on the pyramid is Nikon! Their marketing slogan "I AM Nikon" is by no stretch of the imagination from the biblical narrative "I AM who I AM" - God, and oh my God, have they not produced a camera to suit every photographic discipline. "And God said, "Let there be Light" and Nikon came into existence, "the First Day."

      Your exaggeration about Canon is pointless. Canon is not just into photography bussiness. they are producing electronics, covering various industries .Canon is much bigger company than the Nikon and they are not just relly on selling cameras.And this is a tech. race between sony-canon-nikon. Just releasing D850 means they saved the day. They need serious future planning. As you know curved sensor cameras gonna release in near future and it will change the game rules again.Canon is one of the first patentees for this type of sensor. Sony is rapidly releasing new glasses and takes over mirrorless & DSLR market.so long story short, we will wait and see who will be the next god :)

      and yet their 70-200 2.8E is made out of PLASTIC! hahaha. and yet their crappy 80-400 isnt even close to the sharpness of the old old old 400mm f5.6. dont get me wrong, im a nikon shooter and i intend to buy the d850 and the sigma 500mm f4. but nikon is not a god of anything lol.. dont be a blind fanboy. their VERY overpriced 300mm f4E is made entirely out of plastic. even the internals. the 105mm f1.4 has a plastic gear as focus motor. do you think thats ok? a god? of what? a god of fucking plastic i guess?
      d750 recalls, d610 recalls, a king of recalls i guess? im still trying to figure, a king of what exactly?

    • @photografiaaustralis2131
      @photografiaaustralis2131 7 лет назад +3

      I've been shooting Nikon's my entire pro life and I can tell you there is no race between Nikon and its competitors. As for Canon being a bigger company, so what. Having more available funding has not in any way made them climb the ladder of success in the world of DSLR photography. As for "saving the day", well, Nikon has been saving the day for pro photographers for many decades who demand reliability, an extensive ecosystem, and quality rather than a company such as Canon who is not fully dedicated to
      the photographic industry. These are interesting times Maya.Technology and the competitive nature of these companies can only benefit the consumer, but fear not, Nikon will remain God in the DSLR industry.

    I agree Ken.
    With the VG and D5 batter it is going to kick ass in AF and responsiveness.
    Where is it Nikon?
    In portraiture out of doors I would underexpose by 1/2 stop with the D500 or risk loosing highlight detail.
    The D810 benefited from the same technique...massively.
    The D850 has enough range to save all of the detail...and some of the stuff I dont want :)
    D850 vs D500? 95% of photographers couldn't tell the difference provided a good exposure.
    Lenses before cameras...always.....IMHO

    The problem is that for most amateurs, the D850 is over budget. For my need, I never though that I would get a FX camera, that been said, I can see why the D850 is good. I guess I'll see what the price and availability is like in 6 months (as planned) and if I still want it. Going to save for a bit and see if it is worth it. The Nikon mirrorless should be announced and available by then as another alternative. Funny enough, all my FX lenses are prime except for a 150-600mm lens. My DX lenses are all for walk around zooms (light but slow).

    You don't mention the anodizing of the insides. Is it complete so that the chance of corrosion and short circuits is eliminated? I remember you mentioning this in a teardown of ,I believe, a D500 about a month ago. I'm not a camera guy, I'm a maintenance electrician and this was always an issue with variable frequency drives in less than ideal environmental conditions. It was a pet peeve that they will never address, ever. Since you mentioned it I wondered if you were heard by those you were addressing.

      Lemnisgate well $2,796.95 better would assume you're getting the other lens for $0.00. So is it $700 or $800 better?
      If you look at a lens over the course of 10 years and make a living from the gear and want the ultimate in sharpness, build and longevity, yes, the $80/year over that 10 year span is worth it for a pro with attention to detail on every aspect of their image making.

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  7 лет назад

      acquire is one thing, track is another, speed is both camera AND lens dependent.
      D500 is superior in track only due to as-full coverage for object tracking vs same coverage on the larger D850 35mm frame

    Ken, I have just enough money to buy d850, and be left with 300$ for the lenses. I do photography as a hobby and would like to start with a lens that could do street, landscape and portrait to start with and then I could upgrade to more variety of lens later. I still don't want to buy any thing that I will eventually be inclined to sell due to inferior quality.
    I am just a kind of amateur photographer that want to start with the full frame first up.

      Syed Shabbir Sardar Zaidi I suggest for used lenses ! And maybe wider lens will fulfill your requirements... especially for landscape.. yes.. you can start off with 50mm or 35mm lenses .. or even 85mm for portraits ! But 35 and 50 mm should give you all day to day shots especially 35mm for portraits and landscapes...

    Where does the D800e stand in objective comparison to the D850 and D810? Does the D800e suffer from the same auto-focus issues plaguing the D810? Is the D800e still relevant in 2021?

      its nearly identical to the D500 in low light, both of which blow the D4 away.

      Hmm I'm torn as i need a dx camera for the extra reach for my 300 f2.8. I have a D800 and found the crop mode not so good quality and wondered if an upgrade to a D850 or as there is nothing wrong with my D800 weather to just get a D500 for this lens as it's mainly motorcycle racing and Airshows that i use this lens for. I heard somewhere that the d850 is a d500 sensor that has been extended in dimensions to that of a full frame 36 x 24 then put into a D850, could this be correct or is it a totally different sensor, it would be handy to know and or weather the computer processor makes a difference assuming that it has a big role to play in overall dynamic range and image quality. I don't mind paying out on a D850 if it will be better image quality in dx mode over a D500 or vise versa
      thank you for your help :-)

    Forget the full frame argument, just image quality. Technically wouldn't the end result of a 4k Movie shot with the D500 be of better quality then the D850 because it uses the sweat spot of the lens and has no pixel binning. If a 4k video shot with D500 using Nikkor 50mm/1.4 was compared to a 4k video shot with D850 using Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm F2,8 G IF-ED. Wouldn't the D500 4k video be superior quality?

    for people asking you for the best camera/lens without any info on what they will use it for, for shits and giggles, you should tell them that the Phase One 100MP with the most expensive lens, and on the other spectrum, tell them to buy an iPhone with a lens adapter.....lol then maybe after making stupid/dumb and useless recommendations, people will actually tell you what they will be using the camera for.
