The two things I hate about being in INTP are 1)I don't understand feelings very well, as everything has to be "logical" for me, and feelings (both mine and others) have never completely made sense. 2) My need to be able to wrap my head around things. Often times it's not how difficult something is that scares me, it's how unfamiliar it is. I am constantly trying to challenge myself to get out more and put myself in situations that make me feel uncomfortable.
INTP writer, objectivist & psychological thinker. Scary thing is, though, even though Personality types aren't supposed to be specific, almost every thing this guy is saying describes me perfectly...
Lol I noticed this about myself before any knowledge of typology. I got a job that was physical but mentally freeing. All day I work my ass off and get to think about whatever I want without interruption. I've lost nearly 80lb and have learned a lot about myself and to socialize thanks to this job.
Brilliant! This was well done. I am an INTP, however, to be one within a system that is so illogical surrounded by people that are complacent in whether they make sense or not, is horrific. I can honestly say that being an INTP in 2017 America is agonizing. I would love to propose logical solutions to complex problems, if there were only people willing to listen...or that could even understand what the hell it is I'm saying. No, I'm not playing the victim here. I'm just fairly convinced that with or without my help the human species is going the way of the dodo, and I don't feel half bad about it.
we are all uique. Every Mbit test I do, tells me Intp. but, it seems, not everything is predictable. my social life is 10% taht broken it should be acording to media, and my can communicate with other people perfectly well.
Wow, love the last few minutes. I often find myself worrying about 'the man' and how it's so hard to 'win at life'. Now I know to take a few steps back and fully analyse the situation when I begin to think this way.

This video pretty much described me perfectly, and has convinced me that I am an INTP. Though the two are very different I feel like I display characteristics of both INTP and INTJ. But I'm more likely to look into a subject long after it would be advantageous to continue doing so, rather than come to a decision quickly based on limited research and stick to it steadfastly.
This is pretty random, but are there any other INTP's out there who find the concept of expelling energy in the form of deliberate exercise as fundamentally futile? I can intellectually appreciate the benefits of getting on a treadmill. However, there is something about running for an hour without actually arriving at a destination, or lifting weights, only to immediately set them down in the same place that just seems wrong and "hamster wheel-ish":)
Perhaps I am. Perhaps I'm not. I've taken the MB test several times and am always described as INTP; and I relate with almost every INTP who discusses their perspective. Personality type classifications are, and always have been rough and inevitably imprecise approximations for something inherently resistant to approximation. I liken them to an individual's qualitative perception to temperature as it relates to the actual temperature. A given individual may perceive 65 degrees as "warm" while being active outside, but "cool" while inactive sitting on the couch. Neither distinctions denote a different temperature, but both scenarios manifest a different perception depending on the conditions. Neither distinction is incorrect. But at no point can they both be correct at the same time. I'm about 80% sure that makes sense:)
Running is just terribly boring for me. But when I sit on a bike, ride though the city, while listening to some interesting podcasts - I feel like I can do it for the rest of my life. Maybe you just need some more stimulation, than looking on the wall :D
This is cool! I'm either INTP or INTJ and I realize that I am much like this. Thankfully I have realized and started my own pursuit of self knowledge. Prior to watching this
Clearly not THAT much thought and research. Feeling introverted is dominant function for INFP. Feeling introverted is 8th function for INTP. are you a sap who can't deal with constructive criticism and cry's when someone compliments you because you interpretted it somehow as an insult? or are you baffled by those confusing feely things everyone talks about but you have never felt? I'm INTP and I take constructive criticism better than anyone I've met. You can tell me I'm a fuckwit to my face, and I will try to pluck any constructive advice out of it, if none is found, I discard the pointless comment that wasted my thinking time.
This vid really resonated with me. As a list of generalisations, no, no one is going to get a 100% resonation with this video. I say discern which points apply, and work on those.
I'm an INTP with pretty high F (I actually type myself every six months and I flip back and forth between INFP and INTP every two years or so.. not sure which I am). I'm very into the touchy- feely game :D ANYWAY. Great video from a great man. Love your videos. :)
Chora Jung You're more likely an INFP, because Introverted feeling is the INTPS most repressed and demonic functions, as in it's a place where destruction and transformation of the self occurs in its most painful, salient, and proper manner. For the INFP Introverted feeling is their dominant function they have the completely antithetical relationship to Introverted feeling as the INTP. Also, their thinking is Extroverted when they do engage it, so they ask themselves, "what do I want, and how do I best get it?" Where an INTP asks, "what do I know, and how can I best communicate it?" Those are fundamentally different orientations to reality.
Holy.... this was accurate!! I even felt naked! i relate to all that was said in this vid!! (the paranoia, the dress code, the over reaction, the tight confort zone, the isolation...just everything!!)b Amazing vid! Thanks for the tips, because i couldn't relate the paranoia thing with my personality type...but now i see it comes in the pack jajaja. This really helped me to understand some of my behaviors! i do really thank you!
well that does make sense thinking about it, we are just talking about physical dopamine pathways hardwired into the brain. Thanks for the feedback, wasn't looking at the personality as having a balance of extrovert and introvert features. my mistake was that it just a north / south temperament
You know, there's a theory that people are attracted to the type that is opposite on the first 3 letters but not the 4th. (ENFJ --- ISTJ) (INTP --- ESFP)
I feel like my brain is constantly bending reality inside itself in order to create innovative ideas. When I look at a door, I don't see just a 'door'. I see the door broken down into parts, the handle, the different pieces inside the handle, the hinges, the screws, everything. Is that normal? I'm also very shy in crowded areas with tons of people, example being a concert or school dance.
I am an INTP and a liberal, nonconformist Protestant. What I think is that INTPs tend to generally either skew atheist/atheist agnostic or tend to try to reconcile science and religion (what I try to do). Most INTPs who follow a religion don't take religion literally, but try to find unique ways to interpret their religion's general beliefs - and who knows, what you come up with may just be the truth. Maybe not, but it doesn't hurt to try (as long as you keep it unoffensive, of course).
I'm trying to figure out whether am I or am I not an INTP.. As to what I know about myself, I feel rather or extremely socially anxious when being with girls, the opposite sex I mean. I'm a guy just to let you guys know(not a gay haha). I frequently have this tendency to forget things. Forgetting to bring my wallet, my keys, forgetting what to do next. And frequently regret left out something which is not done or bring along. My mind is always thinking & wondering about something, usually about the obscure, the scientific, money, relationship, what the opposite sex thinks, etc... I think I rely on my intuition much more than just the 5 senses. I frequently do things using more of my subconcious mind and less of the conscious ones.. I also frequently second guess myself. Always thinking about whether am I making the best choices/decisions/options. Even as when I'm typing this comments out, I'm thinking of how to express it out in a more precise manner so that I can let you guys see what personality type I really am. I don't have this tendency to confirm something. Which means I won't tell you guys straight that I'm an INTP when I'm not exactly sure whether I am myself... But I'm curious to know, & I'm a rather curious guy who likes to dig for knowledge & informations, especially informations which are relevant to my interest & my goals to what I wanna achieve in life... So pls help me guys... Tell me what you guys think my personality type is. Thank you very much. For those of you who are looking at my comments, pls reply me something, anything. You have my gratitude :)
your an intp to me I do the same things and I forget basic things but it's normal, we see the world as something to build on or destroy and make it new people, relationships, work ,career so on we pick it a part and put it back we experiment we analysis we second guess our self and start all over again but because our mind is always running and we always changing and adapting it can be hard for people to understand that we change, we don't care about gossip or talk about emotional things (at lest for me) we are direct and hate people that just don't have about the mind of there own I forgot what I was talking about I'm sure I'm had a point to make good luck I guess hahaha
I am an INTP, its interesting because so much of this is applicable to me, although I don't struggle with people very much but certainly, I prefer my own company! I'm not a fashion disaster either, I'm quite expressive, and fairly creative. Perhaps I ought to take the test again..
@jackooboy1 It boils down to this - do you care that your beliefs are true? and are you ok with deceiving yourself? I enjoy having an understanding that is true about reality..
I'm INTP and I happen to fit the description overall, which is not surprising if you consider how many people there are in this world. However, Typology is still a type of stereotyping . There's such a huge variety of stimuli that affect an individual throughout his/her life that its hard to even put them all down on paper. Therefore yes, this theory as much I would like to consider as 0scientific its just a horoscope that's using fancier language :|
Agreed, sometimes this can result in me stuttering even though I generally exhibit precisely what the video describes regarding "way with words" and linguistic aptitude.
Got to give thumbs up for this. I mean INTPs and their athletic abilities (sarcasm). This is the first time I heard about this. I think they have good reflexes because it is highly correlated with IQ but it won't make you good at sports.
yes, i do have hypotetical conversations. But usualy it doesnt change how i feel about them. Just weak ago i was thinking about fact i dont have any emotional relationship with people (inclooding family and people i consider to be friends). you know that situation when you consider film or joke to be funny even if you didnt laugh at all? That is how i consider some people as friends even without emotional relationship.
As an INTP I try to absorb all information and THEN come with a conclusion, I actually think both Science AND spirituality/metaphysics are two pieces of a puzzle which can be entertwined with one another...I can also go ahead and put tje various occult teachings from around the world. I despise religion, not the actual belief of someone who wants to worship a higher being, I don't like the specific brainwashing that goes on in churches, mosques (sp?) etc. I (I guess this is an intp trait also) do not want to "worship" anyone or anything, I don't want to be told what to do with my life and how to do it from a religion, specially christianity. But I have read a part of the bible, I have read about other religions (though I admit I must know more specifics) and also science...I question everything, i do not think science is 100% right and do not go to that extreme that science is everything, but I also do the same with metaphysics and religion. I could go on and on but I'm outta time, basically, this is the reason why the only label that I think suits me the most, is being an Agnostic. Being religious is too limiting for me, and so is being an atheist, both are laughable extremes for me.
Ganz Bestimmt. Your comment is thought provoking. I agree that the world is so complex we humans are not likely to every put every piece of the puzzle together. That is one of the reason I believe that there is a higher power who is so much more than us humans.
Ganz Bestimmt There are plenty of unsophisticated people who find a religion in science, too. Neither side has a lockdown on sophistication or a lack thereof. But the original commenter’s straddling both does sound pretty INTP-ish and reminds me of William James, a well-known person with INTP traits.
Good with words? Im opposite of that. When im talking it comes out as a jumbled mess, and on top of that i always assume im talking to morons so i overexplain even basic things.
Also, you're right that when classifying there are going to be alternations, but even the functions (thinking, feeling, sensing, etc) can be very close to equal on the scale (introversion: 50%, for example). Unless I'm missing something, it seems this may just be a semantic disagreement.
i love how everyone here is pretty much a INTP, and everyones comment here is giving an observation on something, even my comment is an observation i was really surprised how much this personality type fits me, not so much this video but reading about it on personalitypage
Hi I am just curious, I took different personality test and I got INTP then after couple of years I got INTJ, I am just wondering it is possible that we INTP can transform to an INTJ later in life? or it can be possible that I am in between an INTP and INTJ but I don't really like being with other people that much. but in that way I thought that I prevent my self to be polluted with different ideology away from my thinking... I am here just to know from like minded people... thanks.
fantastic, but the bit about "experntial evidence" applies to SPs, not NTs... Ns rely on theoretical data.... Where didu get the picture of that guy at the end of the peer near water??? that was beautiful. Want to make it my wallpaper.
I'm totally freaked out.. How did you know I thought I'm a master of the touchy feely game !.. But I'm not sure whether i'm intp or infp or intj.. how can I be %100 sure!?
I feel the same way, i have a very hard time being able to turn my ideas into a medium that the majority can understand. Most of the time what i say to people doesn't register because i have already been having a conversation with my self and the other person a little behind haha
I believe everyone does this, however the INTP/ISTP probably does this to a greater extent. I find I do this to test scenarios before they arise, or to analyze a past event for future reference. It's useful in allowing me to rehearse a difficult conversation I might otherwise avoid, clarify my position and the way I want to approach the conversation so that I can make myself better understood, though I still find myself thinking on my feet to help people correct their interpretation of my words.
how did he know how paranoid I am?!?! anyway I am still not sure if I am INTP or INTJ I relate a little to both but I heard that you can't really be an INTX you have to be one or the other and tips on how to tell which I am?
I've personally discovered that personality grouping is a result of nature where you've been brought up whereas character is a result of astrological sign
@MiaoPurrington We are alike. Writing things down is much easier than talking about it to other people, in my case because none understands why i talk about what i do.
@spectrav20 I personally am, but mbti has never been a good determining factor for religion, you can find some correlations, but it is negligible at best. So no, there are plenty of religious intp's, although i am an atheist intp
I'm an INTP and I really loved the way the video was presented, But I don't know how to actually tell that the video was much better than All the videos I watched till today.🙄
Ask yourself, do you make snap judgments about people. Do you assume peoples intentions? Do you work before play? If you have a deadline, do you start right away? These are Judging characteristics. As a "P", I hate judging people since I believe strongly that we cannot know what that person is thinking or feeling. My idea of a vacation is going somewhere comfortable like the beach and figuring out the rest when we get there. I like to make work fun and often wait until I get the urge to produce (when possible). Deadlines energize me only when they approach. Sometimes I stay open to new information so long I miss making decisions when they are needed.
It's about frustration, intp, we don't work so well when we're frustrated, we second guess more so than not, but when we're not frustrated, but when not frustrated there's a gut/intuitive thing going on (that little man in the head telling us what's best) I hope that explains, i'm really fucked at explaining, sorry man.
As an INTP, now I know why I questioned Christianity for so long. I wanted a close to full insight about it. All I got to say is, events mentioned in The Holy Bible, has live evidence to back it up. Something cool to look into whenever anyone who read this has time & interest.
This is weird, there are days I feel less emotional and highly focused, and I became an INTP from an INFP.... I remember in class, I can stay so focus that anything around me is blanked, all I see is between subject matter and myself, nothing more. So strange
Does anyone else ever catch themselves having long and extensive hypothetical scenarios and conversations in their minds with other people? And in your mind what you think the person might say or how they might react to the developing hypothetical situation gets you annoyed or angry at that person and you start to have feelings of contempt for them, even though in reality they did absolutely nothing to you. And after realizing this you stop, take a breath, relax and try to change the subject....
@bttalbot but he was not in anyway, shape or form a theist. He believed that the universe was so amazing that it could be considered a god. He didn't see it as a omnipotent thinking being. He was a pantheist, which can easily be called "Poetic Atheism". The spectrum goes [Atheist-Pantheist- Deist- Theist- Evangelical theist]. We was very far from a christian, catholic, or jew and criticized them in many quotes.
You're absolutely right in that no INTP worth their salt would simply accept a religious doctrine at face-value. Any INTP is going to question their faith almost every step of the way, and some INTP's will choose to not believe in anything and swing agnostic/atheist. At the end of the day, there is no logical explanation for faith; either you choose to believe it or you don't. Just my two cents.
INTPs posting on here don't feel sad XD I dont know how it is for other ENTPs but, we NEED you guys lol You think rather than just initiate many different things! I'd love to hear what you have to say about how you think through things
I never realized that my personality might contribute to my atheism. The most fun I had in catholic high school was reading all the most outrageous bible quotes during our mandatory religious classes
Bryan Jones Well of course in psychology everything is probability. As INTP's tend to soak up knowledge. We are constantly associating new information with old information to draw new conclusions. Einstein was reluctantly religious. He was freaked out by quantum entanglement, quantum tunneling and quantum mechanics in general. He called it "spooky action at a distance. Also his position on God was fueled by the fact that multiverse theory hadn't been established. So while most sources say he was effectively Agnostic it stands to reason that if 80% of scientists are either agnostic or atheist and so many see Einstein as their predecessor. that given the new information available to his lineage and the position nearly all of them have taken he would almost certainly be an Atheist today. Finally it may be unfair to say INTP's reject god and more appropriate to say INTP's reject organized religion and doctrine. INTP's are fantastic at picking up subtle hints of bs and the bible/ quran are cover to cover full of pungent shit.
Being atheist seems to me more of an INTJ thing, INTP are always in doubt. INTP are about logic and ideas, so I'm fine with an abstract and platonic universe, i'm not that much obsessed about naturalism and physicalism.
"If you get pushed beyond your comfort level you may reject the relationship entirely"
Truer words were never spoken.
Does anyone else get overly egotistical and arrogant feelings when watching this? I enjoy hearing someone else talk about my strengths too much

It's exactly why I am here. The area I grew up in does not value structural creatives so it's a much needed ego boost.
This is a "best case scenario" INTP haha.

it's the most frustrating aspect of having this personality type. i find myself struggling with it on a regular basis.
as an INTP...I found Echart Toole's book "the power of now" to be ideal for my temperment...my inner peace feels awesome.
Hey, thanks a lot Cal L :) Thank you for the feedback.
your an intp to me
I do the same things and I forget basic things
but it's normal, we see the world as something to build on or destroy and make it new
people, relationships,work ,career so on
we pick it a part and put it back
we experiment we analysis
we second guess our self and start all over again
but because our mind is always running and we always changing and adapting it can be hard for people to understand that we change, we don't care about gossip or talk about emotional things (at lest for me)
we are direct and hate people that just don't have about the mind of there own
I forgot what I was talking about I'm sure I'm had a point to make
good luck I guess hahaha
I am an INTP, its interesting because so much of this is applicable to me, although I don't struggle with people very much but certainly, I prefer my own company! I'm not a fashion disaster either, I'm quite expressive, and fairly creative. Perhaps I ought to take the test again..
You should probably make another video where you describe what INTP's are really like...
This guy knows what he is talking about! Great videos
Thanks this was awesome! Down to the very end of the video, you described me :)
@jackooboy1
It boils down to this - do you care that your beliefs are true? and are you ok with deceiving yourself?
I agree. I think of things that might enhance a relationship but I never have the pro-activity or initiative to actually implement my ideas.
Thanks, I felt like that advice was very applicable. One thing in particular I struggle with is social avoidance.
Thank you for the insight ,You are a blessing ....
Got to give thumbs up for this. I mean INTPs and their athletic abilities (sarcasm). This is the first time I heard about this. I think they have good reflexes because it is highly correlated with IQ but it won't make you good at sports.
I'm INTP, and I'm pretty athletic. Exercise (especially running) is a good way to be alone with your thoughts.
yes, i do have hypotetical conversations.
The advice part is very cool.
@jfh06d what personality type is most intelligent then?
Good with words? Im opposite of that. When im talking it comes out as a jumbled mess, and on top of that i always assume im talking to morons so i overexplain even basic things.
Also, you're right that when classifying there are going to be alternations, but even the functions (thinking, feeling, sensing, etc) can be very close to equal on the scale (introversion: 50%, for example). Unless I'm missing something, it seems this may just be a semantic disagreement.
I agreed with his athletic statement. I guess it just depends on if you have the body type for it.
I couldn't help laughing at how accurate a picture this was of myself
i like myself and the way i think. i accept my faults, as they are true.
i love how everyone here is pretty much a INTP, and everyones comment here is giving an observation on something, even my comment is an observation
i was really surprised how much this personality type fits me, not so much this video but reading about it on personalitypage
I am here just to know from like minded people... thanks.
Hey brother thank you so much great suggestion!
Cool, I'm doing all that, I must be on a good track.
I'm INTP but i am skeptical of the scientific validity of the MBTi test.
Isn't that typical.
fantastic, but the bit about "experntial evidence" applies to SPs, not NTs...
THANKS !!! VERY nice advice. Pls slow down a bit (Study Jim Rohns speeches)
I watched both this and his entp vid, it's really strange how both seem to apply almost equally to me, depending on what mood I'm in really :)
hmm.... interesting.
-INTP
I believe everyone does this, however the INTP/ISTP probably does this to a greater extent. I find I do this to test scenarios before they arise, or to analyze a past event for future reference. It's useful in allowing me to rehearse a difficult conversation I might otherwise avoid, clarify my position and the way I want to approach the conversation so that I can make myself better understood, though I still find myself thinking on my feet to help people correct their interpretation of my words.
Whats wrong with not being a very social person? Being a solitary person doesn't mean we are lonely.
"Athletic ventures"? Are you sure this is for INTPs?
how did he know how paranoid I am?!?!
anyway I am still not sure if I am INTP or INTJ I relate a little to both but I heard that you can't really be an INTX you have to be one or the other and tips on how to tell which I am?
how does one establish close relationships?
I've personally discovered that personality grouping is a result of nature where you've been brought up whereas character is a result of astrological sign
Does it make sense? I don't have the right wording right now but i'll get back to you
@MiaoPurrington We are alike. Writing things down is much easier than talking about it to other people, in my case because none understands why i talk about what i do.
your sons band should have a Album.......... all you said is true, Thank you for the advice.
that's a very rare gift, being 50% extroverted and 50% introverted, is the best of both worlds; also known as being an Ambivert (xNTP) (xNTJ)
From the way he talks about them, This guy sounds like he really holds some grudges for INTPs.
Yeah, the beginning had a lot of 'offs' but the mid-end was much more spot-on, at least for me.
Nice video.
Took the test twice and got Intp and then Intj took it again and got the same results i tries to be as honest as possible what does this mean?
Ask yourself, do you make snap judgments about people. Do you assume peoples intentions? Do you work before play? If you have a deadline, do you start right away? These are Judging characteristics.
As a "P", I hate judging people since I believe strongly that we cannot know what that person is thinking or feeling. My idea of a vacation is going somewhere comfortable like the beach and figuring out the rest when we get there. I like to make work fun and often wait until I get the urge to produce (when possible). Deadlines energize me only when they approach. Sometimes I stay open to new information so long I miss making decisions when they are needed.
It's about frustration, intp, we don't work so well when we're frustrated, we second guess more so than not, but when we're not frustrated, but when not frustrated there's a gut/intuitive thing going on (that little man in the head telling us what's best)
I hope that explains, i'm really fucked at explaining, sorry man.
As an INTP, now I know why I questioned Christianity for so long. I wanted a close to full insight about it. All I got to say is, events mentioned in The Holy Bible, has live evidence to back it up. Something cool to look into whenever anyone who read this has time & interest.
intp here. mbti is not meant to boast peoples egos. ive noticed that on youtube thats wat it is.
This is weird, there are days I feel less emotional and highly focused, and I became an INTP from an INFP.... I remember in class, I can stay so focus that anything around me is blanked, all I see is between subject matter and myself, nothing more. So strange
I watch this whenever I'm down
Does anyone else ever catch themselves having long and extensive hypothetical scenarios and conversations in their minds with other people? And in your mind what you think the person might say or how they might react to the developing hypothetical situation gets you annoyed or angry at that person and you start to have feelings of contempt for them, even though in reality they did absolutely nothing to you. And after realizing this you stop, take a breath, relax and try to change the subject....
I think he means when we have collected enough data, then we act quickly.
Just my two cents.
i cant believe im intp, this explain my whole life
DAMN this guy knows me too well.
@bttalbot
Einstein was a pantheist in the sense of Spinoza.
INTPs posting on here don't feel sad XD I dont know how it is for other ENTPs but, we NEED you guys lol You think rather than just initiate many different things! I'd love to hear what you have to say about how you think through things
Thanks , that was very helpful.
Is like if your post had my signature on it.
@2:20 He meant to say "INTP's reject the notion of a god. He just didn't want to say that because he's obviously religious -An
INTP
Not all INTP's reject the notion of God, though we do tend to be more skeptical. Take Einstein, for instance.
I just wanna know all of the things. I wont ever know everything but I try anyways because it is the only game that never ends.
act quickly? tend to be athletic? how many INTP's do you actually know? we collect data before we act. competence is more important than quickness.
I got INTP in the personality test but many of the told here doesn't really relate with me. Don't know why.
