I love the way there is pause at the end of the tune, and then the coda is added as if as an afterthought!

I don't ever recall hearing those final 6 chords outside of the pilot...almost as if to say "We're going to make this two minutes long if it kills us"

Season 5 intro has a similar ending, only more prominent and slightly longer.

@chrisman737 I couldn't have said it better. I conveyed the same opinion, to a friend, just a few days ago. The era of beautiful theme songs is, sadly, a thing of the past. And quality programming also, as you so eloquently wrote.

The show is ABC's answer to CBS' popular soap Falcon Crest, because it followed Dynasty, which is also ABC's answer to CBS' Dallas.

if I remember reading Bette Davis was not too fond of this show refering it to a show about a Brothel. I don't think she wouldhjave returned I believe she needed the money so thats why she did the pilot

Odd. Davis was ill, left, got better though Baxter was there now (ALL ABOUT EVE!) but Baxter died in 1985. Who was the matriarch then? Bette outlived her and the show!

What an Irony, that "Margo Channing" was replaced by "Eve".

They brought in Michelle Phillips and Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and a few other actors, but no official matriarch.

@jadewarlock - with the exception of Shari not being in the pilot's credits yes I'd have to agree that it was a bit impressive that the characters basically stayed for the entire series run. Once Anne came aboard & Shari was added to the opening credits, the cast virtually remained as was in the pilot. Had Bette's health allowed her to act in this series past the pilot, we would have been used to Mrs. Trent; however I did love Anne's portrayal as Mrs. Cabot as she was more warm and relatable.

I'm pretty sure that Anne Baxter died before the series ended and other characters were added in to compensate including Michelle Phillips.

@@tj.espygil4544 .. *I am original poster daretosayit* and yes; absolutely Anne Baxter passed in 1985, whereas the series ended in 1988. My original comment spoke more to the fact that the revolving door for the most part did not involve main cast members/characters. With exception of illness (Bette) or death (Anne) the original main cast did not leave or were not replaced as has been the case in shows like Rosanne, Scrubs, 2 & 1/2 men, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, etc. etc.
Had Hotel continued another season, it would have lost Nathan Cook as well, but again not due to a deliberate casting change. In other words, the original cast ran their course, including Anne.

What's interesting is that they did a proper set of credits for the pilot - these were the same in the series run for some time.
Bette Davis was good in this, but I think it fit the series better when she left and we had ann cabot instead.

If I may make a slight correction to your comment, the actress's name is ANNE BAXTER and she played VICTORIA Cabot.

R.I.P. Bette Davis, Nathan Cook, Lloyd Bochner, Mel Torme , Pernell Roberts, Alejandro Rey, and Erin Moran. You will all be missed. You are in God's hands.

Actually, Bette Davis had already been signed-on as the regular lead star on "Hotel". Once she suffered a stroke, Anne Baxter was brought on to replace her.

@TheOceanMonarch . I wonder which person did level242 think was the third Oscar winner in this cast list. For what it's worth, there are 2 Oscar winners (as you mentioned, Davis and Jones) and one Oscar nominee (Jack Gilford, supporting actor for "Save the Tiger" 1974).
