    I use 7 1/2 diamond dust with alcohol. I use it on a 2x42 leather belt. it has completely changed my sharpening game. I am an edge trailing guy and running this mixture at 3000 rpm a burr doesn't stand a chance. I finish at 3 1/2 micon belt. Pro tip......add five or so bb's to the mixture for easy shake up before use. Thanks for all you do!

    I appreciate your focus on value & instruction; I've been debating what to put on my fresh leather stropping belts, and will try this out.
    Are diamond emulsions functional on felt belts as well?
    Thanks!

    • @zionpsyfer
      @zionpsyfer 3 месяца назад +1

      They are. One of the videos I've seen that talked about diamond on felt belts strongly recommended Paul's mixture of only alcohol with the diamonds when using on felt belts or wheels. I think it had to do with gumming up the felt with emulsion or paste. Water could make the felt shrink(?)

    It's an interesting video I linked in the description the guy who did it presents the data well. For me this has worked great for the last several years. I saved money considering what I had spent on Polly Sprays to just test some out. It's a fantastic way to finish knives. I have also had great results with Tormek paste as well amzn.to/3J2vfqk for me I can't see spending $36 for just 10ml of a name brand diamond spray when I can make my own for around $15-$20 for over 110 MLs thats 11 X more product with very close to the same results.

    Thank you for the video good sir. I bought some diamonds a few weeks ago and have been debating whether to try suspensions. This cinches it- no need.
    To my mind, mono diamonds should be preferable for polishing anyway. Polys cut may faster but wouldn't it be preferable to use a slightly gentler abrasive with a more shallow scratch pattern? Maybe I'm weird.

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  4 месяца назад +2

      Well depends on the finish and look you want. There are so many diamonds microns available it's crazy. I hate mirror polish stuff so I don't go above 1 micron often. But they can be useful for lots of things at 50,000 and up you can take scratches out of mirrors and acrylic and plastics I don't like how easily mirrored knives scratch so I don't buy them and rarely take on work that wants a full mirror polish because I just hate how easily it scratches from lower abrasives being around. Nothing makes me more mad than wiping a mirror finish with a rag and it gets a scratch from one of the abrasives in the shop that may be on the rag.

    • @zionpsyfer
      @zionpsyfer 3 месяца назад

      @@ALXSHARPEN 100% agree on mirror polish (both entire blade and secondary bevel). Too much upkeep unless you are just using it for display. I was thinking more of cleaning up around the apex and burr/burr root removal. Wouldn't it be best to avoid deep scratches and the possible distressing of metal when doing that cleanup?
      Ultimately i suppose it's splitting hairs on my part since either type does the job. Thanks for the reply and for the knowledge you share. I have learned so much.

    I’m looking to use a 3-6 micron diamond. Do you think the 6 micron will be too big and clog the spray bottle? Have you had any experiences with the spray heads clogging?

      I wear a 3M mask when I work almost all the time the only time I don't wear it is when I make a video for all of you so you can hear me. I also have a shop air filter and a real time air quality checker and a down draft table so I don't worry about much at all. The thing I have always heard is very bad is the particles from aluminum oxide grinding wheels the only one I have is my mower blade sharpener and I use that outside all my others are CBN or diamond I have found that most metal dust falls straight down because its heavy. My air quality checker never goes off from working on knives. The only thing that has set it off is if I have two lasers working on wood and forget to turn on my outside vent fan. My lasers are probably the biggest danger in my shop for particles in the air but since they are all in enclosures now I haven't had the air checker go off at all. I am happy to know it works though and do have that on every day just to be sure because it's a small shop and the day I forgot to turn on the fan I was shocked at how fast the air when from good to bad only took about 1 min I have put it right next to my sanders when working on knives and it never goes off.
