How to make a smartphone tripod mount

- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2024
- I wanted to use my smartphone as a video camera, but couldn't mount it on a tripod because it didn't have a tripod socket. I decided to make a smartphone tripod mount out of ABS plastic. I know it's not pretty, but it works a treat.
I learned how to cut and bend ABS plastic from Jude Pullen's videos:

Now that mobile mounts are available, I may not have do this work but damn, what a lovely mobile mount you have crafted at the end. Totally loved it.
Thank you, I'm happy you appreciate my work :)
"It's not pretty" hella yeah it is ,looks like something I would buy
Thanks :)
Very thorough - audio & both the video was A+!
Thanks a lot for watching and for your comment.
Typing to say your awesome and u should keep doing these vidoes I appreciated the approach and straight forwardness ! Thankyou !
I really liked your video. After watching it, I was inspired to go buy a Joby Griptight tripod mount for ten dollars.
+studiocitizen Thanks a lot, inspiring people feels so good :)
Thanks a lot. I got the ABS plastic sheet from my friend, who makes plastic model planes. I can see it's not easy to get in the USA. I found only few ABS sheets in Amazon and on eBay, but they're smooth on one side and textured on the other. You can also try finding it in model shops.
Wow, that was a lot of work, but awesome presentation and very ingenious of you to figure it all out. I'm sure it was fun to make and gave you a great deal of satisfaction once the final product was finished.
Oh yes, it was a little bit time consuming - the video is just the essence. As I mentioned before - making does give a lot of satisfaction :)
Just wanted to say that was awesome. Way too many tools involved for me but your end result was pretty impressive
Thank you, I'm glad you like my project :)
Wow. This was not what I was looking for, but it has so much value, learned a lot.
Thanks, I'm glad you find this video useful.
I really liked the fact that what you did with your hands is done nowadays with 3D printing. Handcrafts are really nice. Anyway, yours will be done faster after all. 3D printing small pieces on a not so powerful printer will take some hours.
Anyway, I also tried once to make one, but it was to much pressure on the cell phone, so, I stop doing it. Yours is much more better.
I just paid $25 for a Reticam...had I seen this first...I would have given this a go....heck...I still might......bravo to you sir....this was a good how to video.
Thank you :)
Great video, great design, great job. I will try something similar with wood.
Thank you for the kind words. Try out your idea and maybe make a video.
It seems like its really nice man, good job!
A handy solution. Thanks.Don't know why manufacturers have forgotten to complete the product line.I also miss the the tiny hole to mount the mobile to necklace. The last Nokia with the option was X6 - or 8 yrs ago.
you are a genious man. I'm not going to do it, because I'm totally useless when it comes to crafting, but I had to tell you what I think about what you did.
Thanks, such nice comments help me believe that making my videos is not a waste of time :)
I second this comment, I was watching thinking damn I wish I could do this myself!
kluaf oz
Maybe it's worth trying. Making gives a lot of satisfaction. The only risk is a bit of your time.
I work a lot with Kydex and is similar to ABS. Your project was very well thought out and excellently presented. Good job.
Thanks! Could you tell me what you use Kydex for? It seems to be a great material.
I make gun and knife holsters. I heat up the Kydex and mold it around the weapon. Great material you can heat it over and over again.

Thanks for your reply :)
Amazingly brilliant mate, very explicit and constructive idea, I'll check your other videos, thumbs up
Thanks a lot!
Excellent job, very intuitive! :)
your method is very good and your video is easy to follow thank you
Thanks, I'm glad to hear that :)
Wow! Super talented! And, by the way, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your voice. I can't believe what that one guy said. But I'm American, and a girl so I love other accents!
Thanks a lot! Not many girls come to my channel, so I appreciate your comment even more :) I don't have a radio voice, but I believe I can improve it. The voice itself is not my main problem. I prefer American English over any other English dialect and I would like to get as close as possible with my pronunciation. I know I still sound foreign, but I'm not quite sure if it's about pronunciation of individual words, or my intonation in a sentence, or maybe both.
Could you, as a native speaker, tell me what sounds foreign to you the most?
ElectronFun.com I listened to it again & your pronunciation is straight on. You never want to lose the accent! However, it may sound silly but if you want to get better at speech it's good to practice in the mirror. This way you can include expressions in your words. Even if you are not filming your face, it's always good to have expression in your voice. Kind of like when you are telling friends a story in person. You don't want to sound like you're reading. Hope that helps :-)
topersuewithintent
Thank you so much for your time! I'll use your advice and practice in the mirror. I definitely don't want to sound like I'm reading.
Impressive , but it would have been much better if you had made a universal smartphone mount (One size fits all ) kind of thing..
You're right, but when I think about a universal mount I would use different materials and there would have to be a spring and some kind of a clamp to lock the phone.
Yeah you're right..
But As newer and better phones release every half a year now, it's better to make a universal mount.. But nonetheless you really have some really good crafting skills.. +1 bro
Aravind Babu
Thanks man :)
hey macguyver You should work to nasa well done, I didn't expected anithing good when I watched the preview image but gosh this is awesome
Thanks, I should probably change the thumbnail :)
Brilliant! I am off to do that right now!
Thanks! Good luck with your own smartphone tripod mount.
Nicely done. Where did you get the ABS plastic sheet?
I gave you and thumbs up and I am also commenting. This is amazing engineering as many others have said.I may have to actually do this! Thanks for the video bro! Also great guitar track in the background to go with it!
Thank you for your thumbs up and kind words. It helps a lot bro!
anytime my friend :), keep going strong with your video's! Never feel like what you're doing is a waste of time. As long as you have people who come to watch like you do, you're doing great!
well done mate clear and informative thumbs up from me
That was an awesome tutorial ! welldone ! :D
Thank you, I'm glad you like it :)
That looks like it will work until you get your fluid tri-pod. My guess would be to use strong PVC pipe but not to glue the movable parts for adjustments and movement side to side and up and down. Mike
You're right, my smartphone tripod mount would not work with a fluid head, but don't you think using a fluid head with a smartphone would be a bit overkill?
this is brilliant engineering :)
I wouldn't call this engineering, but thanks a lot :)
ElectronFun.com :) you replied to me personally... I subscribe you!!! :D

Robot making
Unboxing
it is an awesome video even though it is a little more work than I would put in it.
Thanks, it took a little bit more work than I expected, but gave me satisfaction.
Thank you very much, very good
Awesome, but you can buy one for $12.95 on amazon and I would spend more on the parts to this. But man that looks great and you have Skill! Thanks for sharing.
It's good to know they finally sell smartphone tripod mounts. When I uploaded this video I couldn't buy anything like this anywhere.
I like that. Because the people that sell these kinds of phones doesn't include
mounts or have accessories, or phone mounts are just hard to find. Knowing how to make your own is good. I agree with Aravind Babu. Maybe you can make a video on making an Universal Mount.
(On the other hand. One can make a mount to fit their specific tripod(s).
Then again, one can try to Google mounts for these kinds of phones.
Still, this was a good video.
Thanks a lot Samuel! I'm glad you found my video interesting :)
You are welcomed. Looking forward for more.
Awesome :)
I need to make one like this :D
+Pk Crazy Thanks, making things feels great :)
Smart I could never think of that (not sarcasm)
Thanks :)
super clever
Thank you :)
Impressed
Thank you :)
Hey nice video bro
Thanks bro :)
very nice and informative video but how to prepare it at home,I do not have the heat gun
pl how can i prepare it at home
Devidas Dandgaonkar Hi, thanks for your comment! I was preparing this video at home. If you don't have a heat gun, you may try a hair dryer, but I'm not sure if it will give enough heat to soften the ABS sheet.
Job we done...
I like that is amazing
Thanks a lot!
Nice. Better than the one I made.
Thanks a lot Brody :)
Thanks :)
Thx it was very usefull
+Joel Mendez Thanks for your comment :)

Dr. Duck face Thanks :)

i want to know that which plastic u have to make and i want to make it for samsung galaxy grand 2
I used ABS plastic sheet.
is there any easy version to make a smartphone tripod?
When I was doing my version it wasn't easy to buy something like this. Now there are lots of different variants and usually they are quite cheap.
Cool
just like professionals.......
Ripon Chakraborty Thank you so much! :) I couldn't reply sooner, because I was on vacation.
nice
Thanks!
he used the hole fuckin World
It wasn't so bad :)
its gud
shiva deva Thank you :)
very good video. But for what you paid for the stuff? You could buy a tripod mount cheaper. and no labor lol
You're right, but it's not always about money and time - it's about creativity and making stuff by yourself.
True
the only problem is your voice :D , but the other stuff are good (Y)
Thanks for your comment and constructive criticism. I know I don't have a radio voice, but I try to improve it all the time. I hope it will sound okay one day.
haha (y)
Merko mobile khadha sidha uper me rakhna hai
How to mount it go to
www.walmart.com/ip/INSTEN-Black-Camera-Phone-Holder-Tripod-Adapter-Monopod-Mount-Adapter-Bracket/40726756 spend literally 4.00$ us and wait a few days for a good one with a Standard tripod mount screw fitting on it
You're right, it's that simple. When I was making this video a smartphone tripod mount was unavailable. This video gives some tips on how to work with ABS plastic sheets, so it might be useful for people who want to make anything, not just a tripod mount.
ElectronFun.com thanks for the video i do like diy i havwe made a few mounts but none seem to work as well as even the cheep ones from the store
***** Thanks for your feedback.
