Been into Subarus for a long time, drive a Legacy GT SpecB (Liberty in Australia) for 5 years now, but never heard of this version. Such a special car. Absolutely beautiful.
After getting into subaru legacy's and owning a legacy gt. I have to say that it quickly took the spot on one of my most favorite cars. They are extremely slept on and while not having as aggressive body lines and accessories as the impreza wrx or sti they still keep a somewhat elegant yet aggressive look to them. I just learned about these s402 legacy's and wishing I would be able to find one for sale but seeing how rare these are I doubt I'd ever find one, but regardless it's an amazing car.
The legacy feels like a more comfortable Impreza and they still carry the characteristics over. The S402 is a really rare machine so can be difficult to find one. Are you based in the UK?
@@PerformanceLifestyles I'm in the USA so trying to find one would be through importers only, and so far it seems that they mostly import more cars that seem to have a bigger following (skyline, silvia, mr2, jzx, etc). I suppose if I really wanted to make the s402 I could source parts from Japan and fit them onto the base legacy gt although it would never be a true s402 lol
@@Ballsack44 the ej255 is a pretty reliable engine, never really had any issues with it besides a couple of small things here and there. The legacy/outback is such a nice platform and very versatile, to the point that I'm actually doing a "vanlife" build out of an 08 outback. Overall they're pretty dependable
Just stumbled upon this video and... I'm afraid to say I do not think you know just how special an S-series Subaru is. It's hand made, with every nut and bolt torqued to spec (i.e. torqued by hand to an exact number) rather than with machines which have a tolerance to them so that gives them feel so much more precise than just any STi. Savagegeese has a lovely review on last year's S209 where he goes into excrutiating detail on what makes an S-series special.
The S Series Subaru's are amazing cars especially the S202 Impreza (video on our channel). I never knew they were hand made, everyday is a school day 😁 Will check out Savagegeese video 👍😎
Very nice review, it's about time these cars get brought to light. By the way, the voice heard when starting the vehicle is a Japanese Electronic Toll Reader, she says "Insert toll card please" as a rough translation. Also the turbo on that car is one of rarest Subaru had used, it's an undocumented Vf51 that wasn't available for purchase unless you had a VIN number for a S402. Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words 👍 I didn't realise that was the case with the turbo on the S402. It is most certainly a very rare car and not a great deal about them on the Internet so it was a great pleasure to be able to do this. Please take a look at our other videos too 👍
Thank you for your kind words 👍 The S402 is a very refined car, doesn't have that Impreza punch but if a luxury super saloon is something anyone is after its definitely worth a shot. I believe this one was also restricted to 112mph too 😀👍
You know whats funny in Trinidad I have seen two and I own one myself one I saw today it was silver and had some aftermarket mods the other was blue and had a lot of decals and probably a fully built engine and finally mine is white and has some after market wheels
Wasn't the legacy the original rally platform used by subaru which was later replaced with the impreza because it was lighter than the legacy in weight and soon after subaru started winning championships.
Nice review! One of the cars of my dream garage, along side of the original GTR, STI Type RA-R and the R35 GTR Nismo. Next time talk more about the stats of this car, like the disc brake size wich got the same calipers as the Impreza STI Type RA-R. They got the same wheels from the impreza S204 and S205. Wider rubber, instead of the normal 215 45 R18 on the spec B and tuned by STI versions. Same engine from the Impreza STI, but supposely a detuned version, besides all the bits you already mentioned. Main contestors were the S4 (not the RS4) and the M3 (E46). I would like to see it again on your channel face to face to a more common spec B, and the differences checked.
Thanks for the kind words and the advice. I couldn't for tge life of me remember tge size of the disks when filming so left it out. I know someone with a BH5 GT but dont unfortunately know of anyone with a Spec B. Its a beautiful car to drive and look at, best part is that most people look at them as a normal legacy 😁🤣
So does this have the full-beef STI transmission with the DCCD and front LSD, or is it the nerfed version of that 6-speed transmission that's in the USDM Legacy spec.B with no DCCD and an open front diff? I don't see any DCCD controls on that unique center console, so I'm assuming it's the latter. Does anybody know?
@@AaronJ323 I mean that’s obvious differences I mean in general. S series was literally almost all handmade, Spec B only had the blistein shocks & the 6 speed trans
I try and keep the format the same but I understand it won't to everybody's liking. Please feel free to fire across some suggestions. Open to constructive criticism 👍

I had one of the the original legacy Gtb back in 1990. They had twin turbos and were restricted to 112mph.
S402 is more refined car, good review 👏

That's quite a rare site for sure. This is the only one I have seen in the flesh.
Great all round cars 👍
legacy gtD wagon owner here I need one of these, thanks for doing a great review m8 :)

Very rare cars indeed, not aware of many in the UK. Definitely get yourself one mate, they are very special 👌
great review old pal, nice presentation

I believe it was, the Legacy RS around 1990. Great classics 👌
Yes .Mcrae drove the legacy before the wrx
Great great car,
I have a legacy 2.5 GT with 265 hk, really a nice car❤
They definitely are a well refined cruiser that can perform very well. 265k wow 👌

Sick car I have a legacy gt spec b here in the US this is so sick
Thank you 👍
The legacy is an ideal car if you want power, comfort and exclusivity. Nice choice 👌
So do I... I've added JDM bits including the center console to get my SpecB close to the S402...
Just wow!! Ok 👍🏾
Dream car
The S402 is definitely a rare and very well car 👌
Cool. I dont think i would like the right side drive but nice car. Hopefully it gets some back road "dirt" miles. Let them eat!!! 🤙
Thanks, these are a very special car. This one hasn't done many miles at all 👌
If I won the lottery today this would be the first purchase I’d make
Get your tickets bought as I know of 1 available 😎
@@PerformanceLifestyles I’m from the US so this is like absolutely unknown to people here. I love the spec b but this is just a whole different league
@Seth Yankosky yeah definitely. Even over here in the UK a lot of people don't know about them. Very special cars indeed 👌

No DCCD if I remember correctly but still a great car to drive 👌
Not all STI’s came with DCCD. Type RA bugeyes and before all came with 55/45 viscous center diff
@MohamedAli965 got a Tyoe RA bug on the channel too 😀👍
Eid mubarak dear Ummah
Eid Mubarak to all celebrating 🙂

After this era all become luxurious sedan or outback. Not sporty 🤣
Yes definitely. Some do actually look quite nasty too 😳
In the united states these are called Subaru legacy spec b and even harder to find.
Even looking in Japan they don't come up very often. Can imagine they are worth a fortune too 👍
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the S402 & the Spec B are different
