Its true - Cata isn't dead. We're just in the usual end of tier cycle where people go on break or purely raid log once a week. It happens every tier (except perhaps Vanilla due to how much farming you had to do for consumables). People came back briefly for Molten Front, and more will come back for Firelands. It'll never rival Retail in terms of players - but it doesn't need to. The high pop servers are still buzzing with activity, economy is reasonably stable, people are out and about doing things. And the bot situation isn't even too bad currently, which adds to the impression there's less players - there's just less accounts active since there's a fraction of the bots there were a few months back. Anyone wanting to either return or start a bit late should consider doing so. Even if its just finding a social raiding guild and making some new friends. Cata is still in the realm of 'chill enough to chat while raiding', which is a nice vibe even if those of us who haven't taken a break are getting a little tired of this tier (though honestly, not as much as previous tiers - including, shockingly enough, Ulduar). Don't feel pressured to have to be a top parser or in a high ranked speedrun guild. Just have fun and see how you enjoy it. Cata mechanically is in a good place for the most part (though there are, as always, bugs to be aware of, especially if you're playing Hunter like I am).
What happens after Firelands? Dragon soul? Dragon soul is a terrible raid, worst part of the expansion by far. Cata is doomed, the population numbers are at the lowest point that we had during 20th week of ICC in wrath classic, and Cata is not even halfway through it's content cycle.
I didnt know I love cataclysm that much. I didnt have the opportunity to play it that much back then and it has been a blast. The raids are great, class design and rotations are great and the amount of time I need put on it to be on top level respects my life priorities. I really look foward to play the entire expansion

I wouldnt worry about spending all your valor, the gold conversion is probably better unless youre just gona buy boes and sell them but even then, theyre gona drop dramatically in price since youll be able to buy all the current valir gear with justice which is even easier to stockpile
This is my first time hearing about the Inferno Dungeons. Sounds exciting I honestly thought they were not gonig to bother with this system in Cata at all! it'll be great to have some new challenging 5-man content again. It's been a very "Raid-Log"-y expansion so far.
The only version of the game that has more players is retail: the other two don’t even come close. Sod has less than 20k raiders total lmao. A small Midwest town.
I started playing Cataclysm and then got distracted by the end of Dragonflight and early The War Within. I guess I could give it a go again. I have a mage and balance druid at 81 or 82 and a paladin at 62.
i would not expect 372 gear from the dungeons, thats only 6 ilvl's lower then normal Firelands. Its either going to be 353/359 (meh) or its going to be 365 a nice middle ground.
And what the heck do I do with these marks of the world tree from the dailies? Just trade 150 of the marks for 70 gold for the quests? Is there any other value to doing the dailies??? Thanks!
I quit end of P2 wotlk because I couldn't take the toxic community anymore but cataclysm is one of my all time favourites expansions so I decided to start playing again 5 weeks ago already fully tier 11 normal geared so my main is ready for Firelands but am struggling to find a guild or even pug raids that are not gdkps :/ so am not sure if I'll play much more if am unable to actually play the content. Why wish we had lfr from the beginning as I don't care about ilvl just want to clear the content that's it. But we will see.
I feel the same way, have these guys queing as tank but playing dps so we booted him and had to wait 15 minutes for another tank to join. It’s in a sorry state atm, firelands might bring a few people back but once ppl are raidlogging it’ll basically be the same and dragon soul will lose people. I wouldn’t expect to see numbers rise until mop prepatch. With the slloooowwww pacing I wouldn’t expect shit until next summer.
Cataclysm’s not dead outside raiding which takes 2-3 hours per week. People have no reason to play unless you PvP, an achievement grinder,or an alt farm you’ve got no reason to log on. Still having the same raids is pretty crazy but the sorry fact is once you’re raidlogging firelands that 2-3 hours per week will actually go down 😂 just not enough content in these older expansions when people are used to spamming M+ or doing many other activities that can keep you grinding all day. For the adult who’s busy it’s perfect but for the sweatbags it’s not worth the sub.
@XxKinGzxX100 nah broooo being able to be 232 ilvl from fos/pos/hor in full Tier 9 without doing a heroic raid/hardmode ulduar is craaaazy. That wasn't like that in Tbc.
Season of Discovery gets all the love and updates from the devs, yet still has a lower playerbase than Cata Classic with no updates or communication for months
Not at all. The leveling has been streamlined, and is quite fast, especially with the exp buff. Ofc depends on how much time you can spend on playing. It's not retail-fast though.
Absolute 0 reason to start now. Nobody gives a F. About old stuff, your queues will be impossible. Nobody will invite you for raiding. Spare time and money, dont start now

Turns out everyone was right about Cata's reception back when it was current, and all the revisionist youtube videos leading up to Cata classic were wrong.
@@alex-suciu Raids are the best way to know a server's population. If people aren't raiding, the server is effectively dead as endgame is dead. It really isn't that difficult, dude. So yes, Cata is dead and nothing in the future "classic" expansions has anything to offer you that isn't in Retail. At which point, you really should just be playing Retail. Though I'm not a fan of either of these game modes.
OCE servers having to PvP with US servers is a dealbreaker for me. Same with SOD. WoW classic is kind of dead for OCE. If you're force to play on bad latency it's pretty much a waste of time.
Cataclysm has been dead since 2011...classic did nothing for it. Just like when it was retail, subs dropped drastically because Cataclysm absolutely sucks and is nothing at all how WoW was intended to be. There's a reason the serious content creators talk shit about you and WillE all the time. Utterly clueless on the content.

When the Valor gear changed to justice points instead they should also allow purchasing the few tier tokens pieces with justice points aswell.
I agree but sadly they won't, but it won't matter because you'll want the firelands tier anyways and the current tier will be quickly replaced

you can also as a guild use the xp buff for the stay classy guild achivement for the 8th guild bank tap

Why would I want to level another alt, just to be timegated by almost a month of Molten Front dailies that I've already been doing on my main?

Cata on mankrick horde. Where you are/were is brutal. Bg ques are 1 hour plus. Rdf as a healer is around 30 mins. It sucks. Hope things change.

idk when you play, but as healer I get ~2min queues on Mankrik. might also depend on what dungeon are you queueing for

Crafted gear is 365.....so no, not really. Fireman's is 390+ gear
