My mum loves Tomb Raider so much, she wrote a letter to Nathan McCree expressing her love for the music in Tomb Raider back in the 90s, he rang her to speak to her about it and sent her a CD with all the music on and signed it!

i wouldnt say so, tomb raider was really easy platforming wise because everything's on a grid. You always knew what jumps you could make and what was going to happen lol.
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 that’s true for some it was easy but still from an atmosphere standpoint and trying to figure out where to go and how to solve the puzzles it is easy to compare it to dark souls in that sense. Well done Emma, looking forward to your funny reactions while playing through all 3 games. I played this one on its initial release day back in '96 at the age of 31 and loved it.
Thank you so much for your passion for Lara and this original TR game ! You seem to have a wonderful spirit ! I just bought the remaster and stumbled upon you channel ! I look forward to following you on RUclips ! Thank you !

Thanks ! thats what u thought too. We have to get her to switch :D might feel a bit clunky at first but the whole game like u said is build on a "grid system"
I never understood the hate for tank controls, they really aren't that bad plus since this game is more about the contemplative puzzle platforming they actually suit the type of game this is. Same with how Silent Hill and Resident Evil OGs create tension through cumbersome slow movement innate to tank control. Modern free controls are fine and all but they are better suited to fast flowing games. The control type has to match the type of game it is I feel.
That's the only tweak I wish they'd made so far. Both control methods are good for different things, I.wish they had made the select button toggle between control schemes rather than the visuals

These games mean alot to me and alot of others. Playing them again has filled me with so many great memories. The atmosphere the music the sense of exploration is all still there. The newer games dont have the same feel for me. Welcome back Lara I've missed you.
I understand you completely, getting emotional like this. Brings back memories from a simpler time and how amazed we were by this game. And this is my favorite soundtrack of a game ever.
even if you constantly go back and play the originals on playstation or PC etc etc, the visual uplift that feels like the devs original vision is stunning. Its jaw dropping and gorgeous. I think the mdoern controls are fine for what they are if a bit iffy. Great great job. Love your love of TR
Absolutely love this video and the fact that you've chosen to share your experience of reintroducing yourself to tomb raider. I replayed tomb 1 through to last revelation 6 months ago for the first time in my adulthood and I cried just like you did at the sound of the menu music.
Lara is not a particularly good archaeologist but she is what inspired me to do archaeology as my undergrad 🤣 Your joy is very infectious, I can’t wait to play the remaster myself!
Doom & Resident Evil got me in to playstation games back in 1999 and then the first Tomb Raider sealed the deal, i have played 100's of games since then and can honesty say no other game comes close to the first Tom Raider or 2,3 & 4. It has everything, the character, the level design, the music and rock hard to complete first time round. Started this remaster and it's an awesome remaster, hasn't lost none of the original atmosphere..love it.
What a nostalgia rush. I decided playing it with tank controls because that way you get all the old animations, and during platforming it actually works better then modern controls giving you a tad more control. Sometimes Inhet the old graphics in there as well for better camera control, like you said. Took a bit to get used to again but I am amazed by how well these controls aged.
Thank you so much Emma for re-living our childhood with this game, and yes I hope you continue with them all. Just three notes and the familiar feelings returned, plus the leaky eyes!
TR1 brings back memories of cold dark winter nights in 97' but Lara brought the sun & springtime to me 3 weeks later(yeah,i'm slow & awful ). I really enjoyed your playthru & love of the game Emma! i love how they've kept all the levels & action the same but improved the graphics & lighting, it looks & plays beautifully! so i teared up when i started this, you're not alone
I _still_ remember sitting in front of the TV with my brother as very young kids and seeing Tomb Raider for the very first time on the GamesMaster TV show 😂 ... we were both absolutely blown away! ... we'd never really seen 3D environments like these before. I still feel like these games were kinda revolutionary. NGL, These remasters look amazing too!
I don't think anyone had, not like this anyway. Aren't TR and Mario 64 the first two completely 3D games? Such a wild difference from the 2.5D worlds of Doom and Might&magic.
The remasters are wonderful to behold, truly. What I love is the ability to switch back to the original at will if you feel completely nostalgic. But I feel like a 14 year old again the way I'm going around checking every square inch of the levels. The love they've given these games is quite clear. The fact you get Unfinished Business, Golden Mask and The Lost Artefact included too is just another positive.
@@HerrFinsternisIt was probably the earliest globally recognised fully 3D 'platform/adventure' game, however Descent on PC was actually 3D, and was released in '94. Quake was 3D too and was released in 1996, like Mario 64 and TR. Those are FPS though, I guess. If you want to get really technical, Battlezone was released in 1979/80 on Atari, but it was the basest of polygons 😏 I'm not splitting hairs, by the way.
@@Nightopian1982 haha yes I will probably switch back and forth between original and remake the entire time ... well, often. I have never played Descent and just had a look. The world does indeed look 3D (and smooth, really impressive for 94) but the models, explosions etc are sprites, not 3D models like in TR, mario and indeed quake 1. Completely forgot about that un.
I've never seen your channel before, but being a big Tomb Raider fan I am glad I found it. Seeing your delight and sometimes horror when recalling your childhood memories of playing the game was just what I needed. The emotion at the title theme song - the feels!
Such a pleasure to watch you play this Emma. I felt your passion and nostalgia. I played this on ps1 the day it was released and still one of the greatest games ever
Tomb Raider 3 was the first one I ever played, I remember getting a copy for my chipped PS1 and dying on that introductory jungle hill slide over and over lol.
I've been waiting years for this game to be remastered and finally it's here with perfect graphics, sound and resolution. I grew up with this game and it's really touching
Emaa you're the best! Thanks for sharing. I was skeptical about the remaster, but I'm sold. I got TR1 for free when I built my first gaming PC. The game came bundled w/ the video card on a CD. I still have the official TR walkthrough booklet{RUclips wasn't born yet}. I have all the TR claasics w/ the official walkthroughs. I can't wait to dive in again. My best memory of TR1 is the swan dive off the top of the sphinx-I could never master the swan dive.
I've just turned 54 and last week treated myself to a ps1 and obviously chose Tomb raider 1 to get going. Within minutes I was exactly the same as you! Pure nostalgia and magic. I totally get your reaction and it will always be a special game for me also. The T rex in the valley will forever be the best ever gaming moment! Love from a person who understands 🌀🪬🪢
Think I was 20/21 when the first two games came out and they both completely changed my understanding of what games could be. I remember being so completely immersed in the experience. I think these games bring different people back to a different point in their lives... a simpler more care free time. So overjoyed to have these games together on my ps4.
I'm so glad you're playing a game that means so much to you. You should do more things for yourself! I loved the first 3 games so much as a kid. All games in this age were inverted and the reason why I can only play inverted lol
I really feel you there. It's crazy how a bunch of music notes can bring you back in time and cause emotions instantly. I was exploring the heck out of croft manor back then, always eager to find something new. Good times.
I had the same thought about the bridge collapsing, but it turns out that's only a thing in Anniversary haha Love how this game is bringing back all these memories for so many people. It's even better that the games genuinely hold up today imo, I played TR1 for the first time last year and had a great time.
The Tomb Raider Revelations theme went through my head while I was walking around my childhood home one last time before we moved. The very home where I played Tomb Raider 2 for the first time on the original Playstation. I sat up all night playing it while eating pizza, snacks and cold drinks. Not a worry in life during that time. ❤
Tbh tomb raider series is the only games ive really been addicted to in my younger days , the first ever tombraider game i got stuck so many times but i never gave up tryinh to solve different puzzles or where to go etc
Hi, Emma. Played these 3 games back in the day as a 37 yo whose neice and nephew got me into the PS1. TR1 is still my most fave game ever and have played it on PS3 every few years or so. Anyway, totally up for watching you livestream the whole game. Started playing at midnight on Tuesday having avoided any spoilers. Wow!!
I was born in 98 so these were before I was born, but because my dad was a ps1 player and had all the ps1 classics these were what I grew up with as my dad could guide me along after playing them probably 10x over himself (plus being 4/5 years old before having RUclips walkthroughs and a guidebook that I couldn’t read, I definitely needed the help lol). Spyro and Crash bandicoot along with this are part of my core memories. After I went through all my dad’s ps1 games except the scary ones like resident evil (even though tomb raider proper scared me) I got the ps2 for Christmas to play on my own. Just downloaded these and absolutely can’t wait to run through em again after 20 years.
I bought this game but cant play due to hand surgery on 2/9. Thoroughly enjoying the nostalgia people are getting. I did a play through on my channel of the OG on PC.
Stop, you’re gonna make me cry too and I’m a gnarly 74 year old gamer guy! This game blew my socks off way back and yes , the music hits me right in the feels. I’ll pick this up tomorrow and dive in again.
You made an important point about remembering the graphics being better than they actually were. I thought the same thing when TR Anniversary launched in 2007. That game also provided comparisons between old and new. I realised then that my imagination had actually enhanced the graphics back in the day. This happened for the first 3D games that presented “real life” environments, as opposed to just 3D mazes like Doom. Although arguably the first game to do this was System Shock in 1994, it all really kicked off in 1996 when we all moved up to a resolution of 640x480 with Duke 3D, Quake and Tomb Raider, and then continued through 1997 with games like Hexen II and Quake II, and then into 1998 which for me was the golden year for 3D games (Unreal, Sin, Half Life, Thief, etc). I’m finding that this ability of my imagination to enhance my gaming experience is now occurring in VR. I’m loving my Quest 3, but I expect in 10 years time I won’t believe how poor the experience actually was. I guess even the real world is given a “spin” by our imagination. Nothing we see is certain.
MY WORDS EXACTLY!!! So glad there are so many of us who have grown up and enjoyed Tomb Raider.. It's crazy to see how many people locked the butler in the fridge. Enjoy all the 3 games ❤ I was also 2 when I started! Just turned 28 and Tomb came out 4 days after the day I was born.. The music, atmosphere, Lara obviously, and the overall vibe of the game has impacted me as well. I would love to chat about mutual love for the game..
They did a fantastic job on those remasters. It's clearly not "next gen" but exactly how I wanted to remember these classics. Including those huge...temples
That music hits hard. ❤ so cute to see you like this because it gives me the same feels. I remember lying in bed as a kid and hearing this music coming from the sitting room where my dad would be playing and my mam would be watching him and trying to help him solve puzzles.
I should have filmed it, but I already had tears in my eyes when the title screen appeared. They began when I was scrolling down the user agreement lol. I can't stop looking around and taking screenshots.
Mint mate! I still tear up at the title screens with the music, remember sitting next to my dad for hours and hours.. weeks lol while he played through them all. Good simple times.
Same as me about your intro, except I never stopped playing (played and played, and drew comics of her, listen to the soundtracks etc.) and started building levels !
I love how open you are with your nostalgia trip. I did not play the remastered ones. But I played the originals when they came out and can fully relate with our emotional responses. I am not a regular on your channel and watching people play usually does not interest me. If we met in real life though, I am sure we would have a lot of fun stuff to talk about. Good luck with your channel!
I'm 67 and I only play these original Core Design games, they are the real Tomb Raider, I'm old school and don't like the newer games, but I'm happy enough to play these old classics when I feel the need to relive the good times😀
Nostalgia is a good thing and it's perfectly fine to get emotional about something you enjoyed as a little one. Heck, I'm a guy and was a bit choked up when I saw the remasters gameplay. You kind of resemble Lara Croft, you could be her sister or a cousin.
I am right there with you period I'm downloading the game right now and I can't wait. I am 46 and this game was my first introduction as a teenager to three-dimensional game and I fell in love immediately. Me and all my friends burn through Tomb Raider 1 Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider 3 probably in 1996 1997 and 1998 and I haven't played them since though I have played many other Tomb Raider games. I cannot wait. I will probably play a lot in the original pixels because it's blowing my mind that my memory of the first game Lara Croft wasn't this blocky weird-looking character LOL I'm probably not going to cry but I'm going to be having the Shivers and Goosebumps all the time LOL
I cried too! Tears of frustration when the camera was spinning around in tight spaces and occasionally giving me a view inside Lara’s head! Oh and which dev thought it was a good idea to map toggling old and new graphics to the menu button on Xbox? Rather than maybe the save function!!? Which they’d buried deep in the other button. Doh!
I didn't feel surprised, but I too wept when I began playing TR1 (I'm 41, and I don't care). It's hard to explain, but the original game has had such an emotional impact on my life since I was 14. Some of it was relief - the game launched to a blank screen from Steam the first time I loaded (!), and I'd been so paranoid that my laptop wouldn't handle it (the min requirements were touch and go), but thankfully it worked immediately the second time. Oh, those graphics right from the title screen, and the seamless interchange between the original and remaster is superb. I've actually had to postpone playing for now, because I don't want to spoil myself too much, although I can't resist exploring EVERYTHING, and I haven't done that since '96. It's fabulous, honestly. Everything that Anniversary should have been. I just hope plenty of modern, younger gamers give it a shot.
i remember i could not beat a lot of this game as a kid. My dad who said he hated video games would stay up until like 2 or 3am beating levels for me then call me before i went to school the next day. remember rushing home to try the next level out
I'm glad they remastered the old games as well. They can be hard to play, but they're very charming and rewarding when you get good at them. It also helps that old school Lara Croft is very witty and sarcastic. Love it.
Damn, I was also in floods of tears as soon as I heard the tomb raider 3 theme tune! My uncle was the one who introduced me to tomb raider (mainly 3). Unfortunately he is no longer here so for him to not see this wonderful remaster definitely tugged on my heart strings. I will forever be greatful that he introduced me to the badass Lara Croft 🥺
The first couple of TR games are some of my best gaming experiences I've ever had. I loved he feeling isolation and exploration, and it was one of the first. 3D environments. I played the Anniversary edition with my kids about 5 years ago and it was great. Super looking forward to picking this up. Have fun, Emma. 😊
I absolutely love these games, played them when I was a teenager, was never able to complete them back then. I’ve completed the newer tomb raiders, and had years of experience now with these types of games, I feel like I’ve definitely improved a lot. So happy I get to play them again and hopefully complete them all this time. Enjoying your play through Emma. ☺️
good nostalgia! Thanks for sharing. I was an adult when I first played these ones: I loved the exploration of venice in the 2nd one. Very janky but so fun: acrobatics, smart puzzles, crazy traps, jungle areas, archeology, secret agents, underwater... I can imagine how the "indiana jones" with these pointy polygons designed during the mid 90s for male gamers had become a strong role model for a lot of girls. I expect to watch more. 👍

Love it, so many wonderful memories, just had to pre-order as soon as it was announced. Still have my Ps1 and the games.
Awesome!! Tombraider Remasterd GAME☺👍 Girl☺
Great to come across your channel. Fantastic quality and great games, commentary.
Thank you so much Emma for re-living our childhood with this game, and yes I hope you continue with them all. Just three notes and the familiar feelings returned, plus the leaky eyes!
I get your tears, I was twenty eight when I first played it in 1996 and I felt enormous nostalgia when the music started.
I’m right there with you Em. Really looking forward to watching this series and experiencing these games all over again with yah.
Great nostalgia week! Really loving it! The music! :D
This really bring me back it time, 25 years ago on my ps1, the load screen music is enough to bring the energy and makes us vibrate to it 💎
Think I was 20/21 when the first two games came out and they both completely changed my understanding of what games could be. I remember being so completely immersed in the experience. I think these games bring different people back to a different point in their lives... a simpler more care free time.
So overjoyed to have these games together on my ps4.
Oh my I was not prepared for the animations to be exactly the same ...... I love it 🤩
I'm so glad you're playing a game that means so much to you.
Good times.
Yes! 100% do the full series. I wanna see it allllll! ☺️
I had the same thought about the bridge collapsing, but it turns out that's only a thing in Anniversary haha
Love how this game is bringing back all these memories for so many people. It's even better that the games genuinely hold up today imo, I played TR1 for the first time last year and had a great time.
Nostalgia and memories can break anyone
Omg the feels when I heard the menu music, it was like being reacquainted with an old friend ♥️♥️
Thanks for being brave and showing your emotions. I am glad you shared your experience.
Nice this was the first 3D game I ever played on a home console...aah the memories of 3D console gaming in its infancy.
Enjoy all the 3 games ❤
I was also 2 when I started! Just turned 28 and Tomb came out 4 days after the day I was born..
The music, atmosphere, Lara obviously, and the overall vibe of the game has impacted me as well.
I would love to chat about mutual love for the game..
Love this opening! Tomb Raider II especially is where my childhood was. I just can't with the music
28:28 Mere seconds before, I was thinking "isn't this the first timed door in Peru?" 😄
Love your enthusiasm for the game.
flash back to my childhood memory,. first time play tomb raider on ps one 1996,. the back sound of tomb raider was so memoriable so iconic,.
They did a fantastic job on those remasters. It's clearly not "next gen" but exactly how I wanted to remember these classics. Including those huge...temples
LOOOOL🍉🍉
That music hits hard. ❤ so cute to see you like this because it gives me the same feels. I remember lying in bed as a kid and hearing this music coming from the sitting room where my dad would be playing and my mam would be watching him and trying to help him solve puzzles.
A new world record 🎉🎉 only 3 seconds into the game and the tears are flowing ❤❤❤
Good simple times.
i love that they let us change back to the original graphics
I swear I can still feel the cold from those frozen caves just like I imagined I did as a 90's kid.
Full series? Yes, I’ll be watching :) That was a fun episode, just really cool to watch someone reliving their gaming history
Good fun, Emma! Can't wait to check out the rest of the playthrough.
i remember i could not beat a lot of this game as a kid.
Love it.
0:27 Wait. You made it to St. Francis' Folly when you were 2?
They did a great job at making the game look like how our brains remembered it, i was 13 when game first released. A true remaster
