Great video - been adding more EOB presets to my FM3. Love the Matchbox and DIV/13 models for that too! On the high gain amp issue - Leon Todd has a great new video about how to get a more "bluesy" tone out of the Mesa Mark IV model that I thought sounded pretty good. Not what I would normally go for to achieve that type of tone, and not EOB per se, but he seemed to get a workable tone out of it and I thought it was a compelling video.

Thank you very much for watching! Leon is a wealth of knowledge and I thoroughly enjoy his videos.

Thank you! Great video, on a great subject.
I use the edge of breakup sound 90% of the time.
For me, the Marshall 1987x treble works very well for this.

I find that the JP2C will do great edge of break up tones. Use it on 60 Watts and keep the output to 8 ohms on Channel one. Turn the mid up for more breakup. Turn the bass up to solve the thinning issue. It seems to be working for me very well. Single coils as well.

Have you happened to try the JP2C clean channel (either real or the Axe model) by cranking the gain and the mids for an EOB tone? Wondering if that might achieve the desired result.

It does start to add gain, but not quite in the same way. It doesn’t do what I would personally want but it may give you something close enough. The Mesa just has so much headroom and the clean channel was really intended for crystal clean playing.
But I am aware of the mid knob’s secret function; I’d have to mess with it a bit more!

@ZackSeifMusic You're not kidding about the headroom. I couldn't even safely try this on mine until I acquired the Captor X. There is a cool Mesa video out on YT with Doug West from Mesa and Dustie Waring from BTBAM trying this out. Enjoyable for Dustie's playing as well.

The PVH 6160 is the Peavey 5150. The 5153 is the EVH 5150 III.
