    I am really glad you explained the input gain. It simplifies a lot of things, that Fractal reversed the analog setting in digital. I didn't know this.

    Hy Cooper!
    Having (pre-)ordered the new FM3 I try to inform my best in advance of getting the Unit. After 2 decades of broken tubes, expensive amps, malfunctioning 9V power supplies and hauling around fridges I really decided, that this has to stop. (Though loving all the gear, it is a toxic relationship...😂.)
    I'm so looking forward to receiving the FM3 and finally being relieved of all this nonsense and just play guitar...
    It's remarkable how you get into the mindset of total beginners, although you are an expert with so much detailed knowledge. You have answered so many of my questions and eased so much of my concern, that I'm very convinced that I can make the transition to the modelling world, too. I'm aware, that this might take a year or two of getting used to it and learn how to do things in the digital world, but I'm up to. Everything is better than setting up all the gear again and again, having different setups at home and in the rehearsal room and always having a fire blanked at hand - just in case...
    I hope the FM3 will ship soon, and I can start the journey... 😊

    I’ve tried every modeler on the market. Was a kemper guy for years and although the amps sounded great I didn’t love the effects. Helix is super accessible and nice for small gigs with the stomp units but require a TON of tweaking to get what you want. But great Ui. The QC was a good UI but I didn’t love the sounds overall.
    I finally snagged an Fm9 this week and it is BY FAR the best modeler I’ve come across. Although the UI and learning curve takes a little time, I’ve never heard a better digital version of my favorite gear. I will be using this at all my gigs for the foreseeable future!

    I have a forum tip: Don’t be surprised if people who practically live on the forum try to talk to you like you’re an idiot because you didn’t spend the last ten years on the forums. Regardless, thanks for the tips Cooper!

      I've never really had that issue - Like any forum there are douchebags, and there are some on the Fractal forum, but for the majority of time it's somewhere I've found to be a cool helpful place

    • @shaharbar
      @shaharbar 2 года назад +1

      @@tonykennedy8483 I agree, it is a good forum. Especially since the founder/owner commonly interacts with the users, which is rare and unique. But like I mentioned, there’s also some arrogant assholes with big egos that respond on pretty much every thread. They get easily triggered if anyone mentions anything negative, bug or otherwise, about the product.

    Setting levels are so critical with modeling, found solving most problems getting good tones start with the levels.

    Here are my tips on what to do while on the FM9 waitlist.
    1) Drink a beer.
    1) Check email again.
    1) Drink another beer.
    1) Play old amp.
    1) Check email.
    1) Watch RUclips videos about the FM9
    1) Make a joke in the RUclips comments that very few people will see.
    1) Drink another beer.
    1) check email again.
    1) check email again.
    1) Ponder just buying the FM3,since it's in stock.
    1) Wonder if you'll be mad at yourself for not waiting.
    1) Check email again.

      It'll be worth the wait! What's your beer of choice?

      @@coopercarter LOL. I didn't think anyone would actually see this, and I'm still on the waitlist, and still watching youtube videos and checking my emails.
      I always say I'll drink any beer except any kind of Hefeweizen. That's a lie though. I will also drink Hefeweizen, but I'll complain about it until it's gone.

    @COOPER AT 5:00 you are explaining the input levels. I have a very noisy floor in lots of my presets and so I lowered the input 1 Instrument from 80 to 20 and this helped significantly. But I also notice there is an Input 1 Gain, which is the 5th knob in the A/D Input Levels. This makes a large difference in sound too but you didn't cover how we should set that. The higher I set it, the more distortion I get but the noise is significantly higher. How would you advise setting this knob?

  • @stratplus

    @Cooper Carter Thank you for this video. I'm waiting for my FM9 and I'd like to know what the best practice is when using the unit with guitars that have completely different output levels. My Peavey Wolfgang has an insane high output level compared to my Strat+. I'd like to have every rhythm and solo preset to have the same output level no matter what guitar I'm using. What levels should I adjust to achieve this on the FM9?

  • @riccovrea841
    @riccovrea841 2 года назад +2

    Extremely helpful video thank you so much for making it! however I do have a question you stated when using a different block to send a real amp and cabinet to use output three but in the picture later it shows output two to a power amp and cabinet? If I use outputs three to a power amp would I still said that to full volume for unity gain?

    • @coopercarter
      @coopercarter 2 года назад +2

      Unity gain is for using the unit mainly as an FX only unit for an amp, either in front or in the loop. Or for running third party FX in the loop if the Fractal unit itself. The AMP block won't give you unity gain (it's a BIG gain increase) so sending a preset with an AMP block active to a physical power amp doesn't need that type of signal. You can use any output. In fact, you likely want NOT to use the Output at max since this could clip your power amp.

    Question on running output 3 to 2 and tube amps? Should I run a stereo cable into maybe an A&b switch and then run a mono cable to each amplifier? Or can I just use output 2 and 3?This is for a FM9 Turbo unit.

    What about outputting to a solid state power amp / guitar cab?

  • @jorgea3507
    @jorgea3507 2 года назад

    Hello Cooper, Clarification on tip #2. I have a "combo amp" to use on stage for feel, but still using #1 out to foh. Do I still place after the amp model as in demo in video or would I place after the #1 input? If so do I need any block other than out2 since it's a full combo amp?
    Fyi, I'm currently using the monitor outs on fm9 directly to amp, without creating routes or adding blocks.

    @Cooper Carter What speaker setup are you using with your FM3? I have my studio monitors (Presonus Eris 4.5 I believe) and I was playing with the idea of getting a FRFR Powered Speaker. However, I am no longer a gigging musician and would just be playing at home. I had to sell my Mesa Boogie Triaxis/2:90/Recto 4x12 setup and a buddy bought me an FM3 as a consolation gift, knowing how much I love to play. Just looking for some advice from someone who also plays a similar rig (Loved Your Mesa/Music Man videos from the past). Would rather not spend if I do not have to. THANKS!

    Amp in the room isn’t a tone-it’s an experience 😄I find that modelers can give you sound, but feel is an elusive thing unless you’re doing some crazy shit with a real cab.

    So. When to use the ad level knob or the pad? Confused on this part. Could I not just leave the input ad at 50 and then pad individual guitars as needed?

  • @GP-mk5tj

    I've seen videos where if you're going to a tube amp that you move the cab toward the end of the chain. In this video you put output three before the cab. Are all those other effects after the cab going to go through the tube amp? Or do I have to move the cab block down toward the end of the chain

    I am having trouble understanding the +4 vs -10db thing…..+4 is louder,right?….on my system,my Yamaha HS8’s are LOUDER set on -10db …and when I set the AxeFXIII outputs to +4,it’s quieter than -10db……I’m confused…I have both set at -10,and it’s way louder than setting both to +4db…..I don’t guess it really matters,just trying to understand it..

    Hey Cooper. Great video, but I have a question. I bought your video instruction course for the AXE FX III. Is all this info in your video course? It's been a while since I viewed it, but if you gave these instructions during the course, I am probably already there. So did you cover this in your course?
