    Thanks for posting this video. I'm just getting started on my KDP journey and always had a love/hate relationship with WORD from the time I was a student writing papers. Formatting was always an adventure. I had a draft of my first book written in WORD, but bought Atticus and uploaded it and LOVE IT! I'm still learning and playing around until I get the book to look the way I want it to, but this is just an amazing program!

      They have a 2024 interface version just out February and are assuming lots of great updates soon. But can you put multiple images ? like several on a page or a couple images per chapter, where you choose with text beside it a different size ? I saw a caption option but it's italicized.

      Word was working super well for us, we got it formatted and looking nice, until we got to the full page pictures. Word really can't do full page pictures because it keeps wrapping the words around it so you gotta fiddle with it but it only turned out messy. Now we are having a bit difficult time trying to format our book from Word to InDesign. If anyone knows how to get insert full images into Word without problems, we'd be happy to hear the advice.

    I just bought the course and will try to apply it to Affinity Publisher (I am interested in the principles - the tools I know can be translated). It seems the author is in partnership with Adobe (not a critique at all, kudos for it!) which is why I don't think an AP course would be viable in the near future. The thing is that Adobe is actually not as affordable for people literally starting with writing/designing books (I am more inclined to the design part). Affinity is not paying me btw haha but it's just 1 payment of $55 to anyone interested, and their suit of programs are giving Adobe a run for their money. Thanks to Ms. Lynn for all the info she kindly provides. We'll see how it goes for me now :)

      Affinity Publisher wouldn't exist if it weren't for InDesign whose setup and a number of commonly used features were taken and released with a smaller price tag. Fine, but when it comes to innovations and excellence, Adobe is ahead and most likely will always be, unless a visionary designer appears in one of the smaller companies. And even then, such a person is likely to eventually gravitate to a place like Adobe.

      @@droidfanMay I ask why you were thinking of switching from ID to AP?

    • @droidfan
      @droidfan 9 месяцев назад

      @@discovermico Strictly for the price difference. I have some design experience and books designs and layout is something I always wanted to try out. I can't justify ID's pricing for something that is less than a hobby. 30 days trials don't work for me either. Again, It's a hobby, I don't want to stress about it because the 30 days are ending (I guess it would defeat its purpose?) So, at least for me, AP is the way to go.

    Hi Mandi, Thank you for the video. I want to create a poetry book. Having the ability to play with the look/effects/shape/sizing of imported images on the pages to accompany the text is important to me. Is Adobe In Design good for this sort of creativity? Some of the other software is very limited in this regard. Word is actually so much better for messing around with images, but I know from experience that your comments are spot on about how frustrating it is to format multiple pages in Word.

    One other question. Why do books always indent the first sentence of each paragraph in a book? Is it something from old printing days in order to delineate between paragraphs (which represented new themes) - and space was at a premium - so then indented rather than spaced out paragraphs. But why do we still do it considering spacing is no longer an issue and paragraphs are now spaced out in books - so why the contineud need for indenting? Thanks x

    • @therainbowdude325
      @therainbowdude325 6 дней назад

      We indent paragraph to differentiate between them, and we don’t use spaces because spaces are a good way to indicate a scene change in books. That’s why the random space in the middle of a book page is not random. This is the standard at least

    Is this course still available for $55? I went to your site and it says it is $65. Just checking.

      @@MandiLynnWrites Thank you for the response. I am so glad I bought your lesson. I can't tell you how much I needed this! It was a bit fast paced but that's what the pause button is for, right!? LOL! Though, I did run into an issue when trying to view the EPUB in Kindle Viewer. It says, "Kindle Previewer could not preview this book due to a conversion failure. Please refer to the Conversion Log for more details." Ideas? I made sure I was logged out of my novel in Microsoft and InDesign and I save my cover image as a GIF. I followed your directions to the T a few times just to make sure.

    A question first. How good is InDesign at eliminating widows and orphans and standardizing vertical text alignment from page to page? It seems to me that these are two of the most important things that a publishing / book design program should be able to do perfectly.

    Do you write your book on InDesign or write in Word then import or copy/paste to InDesign? TIA.

      I write the book in Word and then import it into InDesign. It's actually a pretty seamless process!

    I find that you must enjoy listening to yourself. You had not ever, start to the point for your true lesson introductions. You waste far too much time, you need to get directly too the point of your introduction.

    Hi, i have been working on a book about my family history. It is image-heavy with footnotes on many pages and endnotes with every chapter. The is a preface with pages numbered with Roman Numerals and the remainder of the book is numbered starting with 1. All of these components have given me problems. In fact, no matter whaI do, Word wont let me insert a running header and the main section of the gook starts at 2 instead of 1. I know I have taxed MSWord to its limits. Are these all issues that can be resolved using In Design?
