Pie is such a cutie! My husband and I rescued a pair of orphaned baby magpies about 6 years ago. They had been blown out of their nest in a huge wind storm. Unfortunately, the parents were killed in that same storm. We found both of their bodies nearby where they had been blown into the side of an office building. The babies were old enough that their eyes were open, but young enough that they still had only their fluffy, downy feathers and were completely helpless so we decided to take them in. Despite the fact that I am around them pretty much all day and regularly speak to them, neither of them "talk", but they do occasionally go on for a bit with a low mumbling series of sounds that sound like humans having a quiet conversation, but without any actual discernable words. I think it's probably because they have had each other around to keep speaking "magpie" to. As a result, I have instead learned to speak "magpie" to them. After several years of practice I can now mimic almost all of their sounds. It's quite entertaining to see the reactions that I get from magpies out in the wild when I respond to them with their own native sounds. More than one magpie has given a startled look at his fellow birds as if to say, "Wait! Did that human just speak _magpie_ to me?" Thanks for sharing these videos of your various corvids. They have long been one of my favorite animal groups and it's nice to see other people who are as enchanted with them as I am.
Pie is such an adorable and cute character. I can see him as being a charmer and smooth talker. He's so intelligent and his voice is priceless. Thanks for making such beautiful videos. The way he imitates people makes my day.
I got to raise a Magpie. Her name was Rraca, from Urraca which is Magpie in spanish ...she was wonderful but never did talk. I had her all summer, left the door open and she came in and out of the house. She had an accident and died but she was loved and I still miss her. The Magpie flock wouldn't accept her which was sad cuz I was hoping she could go live with them as its illegal to keep one. She was so funny but wow, dont make one mad cuz that is scary! She always wanted my paint brushes or the pins I used to clear paint tubes, and when I tried to take them away...whoa! When we were outside, I could call her and she would fly to me and land on my head which really did hurt. Gosh they are so beautiful. How lucky you are to have Pie there safely and happy. Im crying again over my friend Racca and its been 5 years. RIP
Please give Pie, “I love you”, or “So cute” or whistle songs, or other delights to imitate every day 🙏♥️. I can’t wait to hear him say, “good bird” to the crows 😁😁🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
What a true blessing these lovely birds live their lives. If the world had more compassion and love you have for animals the world would be a better place. I love your videos of these cute lovely birds.
You crazy people!! How amazing. (I'm scared to death of birds, but I would 100% do the same thing-- as I have many times-- as you guys did when this one ended up needing a helping hand.) BUT I never had a single bird talk! Can crows do this too? Or ravens? Do most wild big birds have such remarkable abilities of mimicry? Do they grasp what they are saying to a point? If u asked pie to point out peach, could he do that? Or is this little guy just having fun yelling things like a human? Can he point out maple or you by name? You should DEFFINATELY GIVE YOUR BEAUTIES SOME HOME- MADE PUZZLES . I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM HAVE A BLAST WHILE SOLVING THEM. In any case. Keep on with the kickassary, you beautiful creatures you!! Peace n love to u and yours, AJ
We think he has some idea what he is saying as he always starts calling Peach when we give Peach any kind of attention. When he sees me to change the water for them just before bed time, he starts telling everybody Get ready for bed! before even I can say that since he knows I will turn the lights off next! Also, when he was a little chick and I was hand feeding him, I always said Little Pie! Little Pie! while putting food in his mouth. Now, every time he sees me coming with a food dish, he starts yelling Little Pie! Little Pie! :-)
Yes I love corvids, but I don't live alone and I think my roomates wouldn't like this type of companion lol. What a shame though. Corvids are so amazing and clever birds!
I am finally back....so I found your video and I love Pie and his Getting ready for Bed. He's so cute...I think he's a star because of his talking. He sounds so real. Listen to that guy he is really doing Mag pie talk. Boy he's a clown. Thats why I love him...thanks for sharing...now he's saying Peach...wow he's great...come here...he's a talker. He even says Peach. Wow that was perfect. Now he's laughing....what a doll baby...................thanks for sharing. He even imitates her cough Maple has to join in to the fun. Peach I love how clear he says that.......................wow..........he is a talker. love him.............pat that cough....is fabulous and so is Get Ready for Bed.................Oh so much fun. good to be back.
I never knew a bird could reproduce sounds instantly. This is truly amazing. Thanks for the effort you put in helping animals. Great job. All the best to you all.
Some people think its a fake laugh but it is how I laugh. We have another RUclips channel if you are interested. Here is the link .ruclips.net/channel/UC3w5w7KPX6ph2PXWqW2_hDg
Hi there from Saskatoon Sask! I just wanted to say thank you for taking care of these birds and I think your doing an awesome job! I'm a big bird lover and it's nice to see others who share the same view no matter what the species. Great job!
I remember when I was 6 (51 years ago) when I was on a family vacation in Florida, and we saw and heard a pet mynah bird talking outside a store. It was so fascinating that my father let us stay and watch him (cancelling whatever our plans were for the next hour). What good parents to see the value of a learning experience and the beauty in being amazed by nature.
Pie is unbeatable, so cute and I think it's trying to get Dennis accent too, so crazy that a bird could do all that??? Nature at its finest :))) Thank you.
Was reading what you wrote above, I dont think pie would ever release his family even if you were to try releasing him! He doesnt feel he is a prisoner of any sort! The blessing is full circle! ❤❤❤❤💐🌷🌹
Hahaha, so unpredictable, you tell him to laugh and he refuses; when you laugh too hard until you cough he suddenly thinks cough is fun and mimics your cough! So much fun.
Love you Little Cutie Pie❤ Perhaps the vet will suggest that clipping Pies wings is best. I know it's a very controversial opinion for many. But in some cases it's a matter of safety and security. I didn't want to clip my Parrot let but ended up having no choice because where he chose to fly, and then I understood how easily he could get hurt or even punctured. I decided for now until I flight train it's best for my little guy. I'd hate for little Pie to break a long feather past where they are safe to be cut at, idk? Maybe just inquire what his vet thinks. He's truly a character 🍰
Glad to hear from you, Johanna! :-) For some birds it might well be the best option for their own safety. The area where we would let little Pie fly is pretty bird proof, though, so it would be pretty safe for him to fly there. Also, we are hoping to build a HUGE aviary for all of our birds in the nearest future, so it would be great for them to fly there. We want to make it really big, with some trees and bushes inside even.
Oh my gosh. It's a good thing I'm not their rescue mom. Those birds would be rolling all over the floor with my snuggles and kisses and face buried in their feathers! I was like that with my rescue squirrel. Swear to it... he couldn't out of the house fast enough!😂... but hey, he was tough enough to never take crap from the other squirrels! He's still around in my backyard and it's been over a year!
Ha ha ha, cute little Pie just set my Hoochie Boy off squawking with his funny adorable repetoire. 'Peach, Peach, Get ready for bed. ..cough cough. Bless, he is so funny! !😂😂😂
He is just a doll! I'm a new subscriber... just found your channel a couple of days ago, but I love that adorable little Pie. You two are terrific, beautiful people for your love of animals... it shows thru your videos how loved your birds are. They're lucky to have you both, and I think it's sad you have to explain yourselves constantly to people. Anyway, I'm sending love from the States
Pie is a black billed magpie and these birds inhabit the western part of North America and other parts of the world too. The ones in Australia are not related to the magpies in the rest of the world.
@@chv72 that's very interesting! I'll have to read more about that. I love to read and learn, esp when it comes to animals and other parts of the world. In my travels to Australia, I found that magpies are very intelligent and inquisitive. I also thought they were beautiful birds, and enjoyed their interesting call and 'music' much more than the other exotic birds down there.
Pie is a real character. We have a Magpie not fit for release here in Australia. We adore birds too.
birds are beautiful creatures. God is good

it's pretty cool that this birds can speak too ^^
I love the way Pie says "Peach!"
I know...he has the cutest lisp! 😄
It sounds like he's asking for drink in polish.
"Get ready for bed"!! 😅😂😂🤣🤣
It's incredible how he says the name peach. You are so good to them bless you
Both birdies so sweet and smart. 😍😍
So smart and adorable❤️😍🙏

So sorry to hear what happened to your bird! I am sure you did your best for this little bird!
didn't know birds would mimic coughs aswell as speech.
Our pet crow Peach use to cough also but has stopped since Pie has been chattering so much.
My aunt's macaw would ring like the phone starting at dawn every morning
A parrot in a place I used to live did a great car alarm and wolf whistle.
That Is so cute I love it . Pie is so smart
I just adore Pie he’s such a sweet clever talkative little bird. Love you guys. ❤️
Thank you!
he even laughs just like his human male
Please give Pie, “I love you”, or “So cute” or whistle songs, or other delights to imitate every day 🙏♥️. I can’t wait to hear him say, “good bird” to the crows 😁😁🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️

Yes, they make great companions for people who can not get out much. They love attention and wouldn't mind having human interaction all day.
@@chv72 Actually I am in highschool. I am just obsessed with corvids lol. 😊🐦
