Well the Ultra has much more new features and here in Holland the S23+ is just way too expensive for what you get. For me it would normally be the compact s23 but I couldn't resist a crazy T-mobile deal for S23 Ultra 1tb (just 60,- more than 512gb after cashback). With carrier discount, a 240,- cashback and a Watch5 lte I'm paying only 850,- for the 1tb Ultra while the S23 256gb (with only 60,- cashback) is still 800,-. So I went for the ultimate big boy 👊🏻

The ultra is definitely fantastic but the plus isn't far behind at all. I mean even in zoom, it holds up quite well provided there is enough light. Glad that Samsung isn't putting huge gaps among their flagship models. But, ultra is definitely ahead.
Very impressed by the plus. The difference is only noticeable in low light but it's not even big at all and I surely won't be using 8k at night so I'm pretty happy that I went with the standard S23, really loving this form factor and the value.
Never thought it would be this close. Wanted the best camera, so I bought the Ultra, but I like the form factor of the Plus more. But I'm happy with the Ultra.
S23+ in hand here. Fantastic phone. Easy to hold in hand, premium feel, great battery life, great performance, great camera (sometimes I miss my Pixel though). Ultra is just too big for a daily use in my opinion.
Quite impressed that the 200MP sensor is able to capture ever so slightly more light, especially in low light video. Double Quad debayering certainly helps as does the bigger sensor size. But apart from that the regular S23 performs pretty much the same.
200 MP 4×4 and 50 MP 2×2 means pretty much identical chroma resolution and I guess that's the main reason they don't seem too different when it comes to perceived detail. I wish no sensors ever went beyond 2×2 Bayer.
I went with the Ultra for the S Pen and the screen resolution and increased RAM. Both the Plus and the Ultra have superb camera systems that will delight anybody. Any photo and video advantages that the Ultra has over the Plus are minimal and subjective. In some cases the Plus does deliver better results. I actually think both devices are good value for what they offer. Own either device and you should consider yourself lucky.
Very small differences between the 2 but Ultra definitely still seems worth the difference for the S-Pen, bigger battery, bigger screen, more RAM options, better zoom and night performance and of course ... alpha omega supreme galactus status
Happy to see s23+ not having that weird fade when taking pics of food. Had to switch my s20 ultra because of how weird it took photos of food regardless of how much megapixels it has.
The biggest advantage of S23U is telephoto camera. But photos from main camera seem little bit flat (too light) and lacks wider dynamic range. It needs some tweaking, hope Samsung will do something about it
Great comparative video. My wife and I both upgraded our S21 ultras to S23 ultra and we're very pleased with the camera performance. As someone who shoots both night and day I'd say the additional price is worth it - and I'm very fussy and picky with my photography.
My wife has the plus I have the ultra. The new sensor on the ultra has less noise and a slightly sharper image while pixel peeping. I tested both cameras side by side in the default 12mp mode. These tests in the videos are not apples to apples. You can't compare 200mp mode to 12. As of Feb 23 the 50mp and 200mp modes dynamic range is blown out and smooths the images too much. These two modes do reduce noise greatly though. Hopefully these two modes changes with updates. If they can fix the smoothening and dynamic range these two modes will be amazing.
Mp does not matter. Distance of viewing is what matters. Giant billboards are usualy put up with only a few mp ranging from 5-16mp. All the 200mp allows you to do is crop more. I can say for sure my 24mp full frame cinema camera has sharper images then any 200mp shot I've seen.
Thanks. I'm trying to decide between the 23plus and 23 ultra. It looks like the ultras main advantages are in zoom detail, night time modes and video stabilzation in low light. I was hoping that the plus may do a little better in dynamic range and white balance to make it more similar to the pixel, but these seem to show the regular Samsung effect.
Oh no nothing will compare the Pixel shots. After using the pixel and the s23 ultra and Plus, I noticed the pixel always took nicer, sharper, and clearer shots, but that's Pixel, they're always took good pictures.
@@hobbitpsiThey do take great photos for sure. Their video is improving with updates also. All this makes them cheap for a reason (excluding the ludicrously priced Pixel Fold).
@@neilmcguinness4422 See, I never had any of those issues with my Pixel 7 pro. My battery would always be at 40-50% by the time I went to bed and it never once got hot on me. Charging speed is never a big thing to me especially for the Pixel, because the only time it was on the charger was when I went to sleep at night. Far as glitches, the only glitch I've ever experienced on the pixel was the modem issue, where connections would drop or I wouldn't get texts or calls sometimes. And I agree about the fold, however, it must be a good device because if it wasn't the facebook marketplace would be flooded with them, but they aren't.

More MPX does not mean "more better". This has been proven a moltitude of times. At the end of the day a good 12 MPX or 50 MPX has nothing to envy to a sensor with more MPX, lots of MPX are there only for marketing purposes and what gives the real performance is not the amount of MPX but the quality of the sensor substrate itself (in both smartphones and pro cameras) and the image processing behind (in the case of smartphone cameras). I would love to get an S23 Plus because I like the classical S design more instead of the Note lines of the Ultra, however the high price, the lack of microSD card slot and headphone jack make me stick to my S10+ for another year or more since the value is not there at all.
Not changing phones this year but dropped by to say thanks for your comparison videos! Definitely helped me decide on phones every time I decide to upgrade.
I like the camera as much as the next guy, but I don't think I can get onboard with the size of the Ultra after using the iPhone 13 Pro Max for the last two years or so. I decided to pick up the S23+ as I tend to think it looks cleaner. We'll see!
I really like less sharpening on Ultra, because you can get more sharpening after in edit, but you cannot never take it away. And photos with less sharpening look more like from DLSR than a phone.
Thanks so much for the in depth look at the camera features on both Samsung phones. I'm surprised that Samsung pays so much attention to the camera features. I would have thought that the phone features (reception, clarity, voice, meetings) would be the biggest improvements.
In theory, the 3x telephoto lens, the ultra-wide lens, and the front camera are the same on both the S23+ and the S23 Ultra, right? the difference is in the 10x telephoto lens and the 200mpx sensor, right?
I may be a bit late so you won't read it, but just in case you are: in 6:45 there is a pretty big mistake. You say that you can get a different look with more dof out of the ultra, but the woodpole your were trying to photograph was not in focus on the +, the focus was on the tree behind it. So this makes that comparison kind of unreliable
Really good side by side review. I mean surely. Most people upgrading from perhaps 2-3 year old phones are going to see significant differences regardless.
Actually no, I've compared my OnePlus 6 with gcam app to the s23 and it beats it most of the shots. It's just slower to process the pictures since it is more than 5 years old now.
Danny..dd you turn off the scene optimizer on your Samsung S23 Ultra? I notice it will take a clearer and more natural color pictures when is off. Thanks for the comparison video.
Did you notice the photo differences between shooting with the main camera in 12MP mode to 50MP mode? I notice over sharpening and lots of detail loss on both s23 plus and ultra
The S23 Plus does it good enough. Its a fantastic device. It will be my next device later this year. Currently on the S21+ Thanks for this video, and best regards from me, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 🇳🇱
yeah nighttime shots of moving targets, so many ruined photos from trying to take photos at night in bars with friends only to end up a blurry mess. Will be good to see what the latest do compared to the s10
Danny you should check out the night mode shadow details of the S23 ultra, they are worse than the S22, the noise suppression smoothed out the details in the shadow areas.
I traded-in my flip 4 to the s23 plus and I am so happy. I got it for around USD480+ after the trade-in value and the additional credit of USD200 from Samsung Philippines. Also, I was able to buy it during the "Pre-order" and since I was in the Physical shop, I was able to get it immediately and got a free upgrade in storage. I actually love using the S23 plus given its size. Although I was surprised that the ultra-wide lens is only 0.6x. I'm very much tempted to switch from my iphone 14 pro max to s23 plus but a lot of my friends and family members are using imessage. But I'm very much happy with my s23 plus as my work phone. :)
Ultra is just terrible in the hand. It's a block with sharp edges, curved screen where you will most likely have accidental touches, it's big as a tablet does not fit most pockets. S23 and 23+ is the reasonable choice here.
Low light video and overall zoom efficiency are better on the 23U, but the 23 and 23plus are brilliant stand alone devices. They aren't cheap, and their quality shines through. Especially via their brilliant cameras.
Good video! I would have to go with the Ultra because it gives me more options that I know I am going to use. The Plus did fairly well though! I prefer to have the range knowing that I am covered than to want a higher quality and not have it. That said, I wonder why Samsung don't have a smaller Ultra for consumers that don't like a large screen. Oh, well...
If the camera is the most important device for you or do you want to own the Samsung flagship- choose the Ultra. Otherwise, the S23 plus is the right one.
I would like to see how the plus model holds up against the iPhone 14 Pro. Happy with my s23 plus so far. It's a great all rounder. Kind of wish they could have had the same 200mp main camera though. But in reality it's not far behind
thanks nice comparison the camera are really close, maybe because of the superior hardware the Ultra can leap forward with future software updates, but no skipping the Ultra is just boxier i am tired of the rounded corner designs
If I may ask, on the 23 ultra what do you have the camera set for 12, 50, or 200mp. Am having a hard time getting a sharp photo, even with a tripod. are you using focus lock? TIA
Okay so which one is better in water resistant area. I heard few reviews where due to S pen , water got in and Samsung don't cover water damage. Camera is the only downside but the changes are not that huge. Please help.
I used to be more interested in the plus models since my last phone was a s20+ and it was beautiful. But ever since the s20+, the plus series have been nerfed. So i decided to go for the ultra and im glad i did. The curve does not bother me on my reg uses. They did a good job on flattening compared to the s22. But overall if youre set on the plus model, get it. If youre debating whether plus or ultra, get the ultra.
I am the opposite of that opinion. I had the s23 Ultra and traded it and got the s23+ and can say for my personal usage, the Plus is much better than the ultra. Sure the ultra has all those extra features, but a lot of those features are either not really needed or not really used in everyday/average use. Not to mention the design of the Ultra just feels weird in hand with the sharp corners and being flat on the top and bottom. Not the mention the screen protector options. With the ultra I tried every single screen protector that claimed allows the finger print scanner to work. NONE of them worked, and the only one that did was overly expensive for a simple screen protector and that's the ones that involves the adhersive and the UV light. With the s23+ I got a cheaper Mowei temptered glass screen protector and the finger print scanner works perfectly, as if there no screen protector on it at all. But again, this is my personal opinion after using both phones.
Can you focus more on video recording in day light? Many of us use to record family activities and trips and need good video recording, I would appreciate a video recording comparison, with your thoughts on better color accuracy, focus, microphone, while recording. 🙏 and if you can add the s22 + and ultra to the comparison it would be epic
Hi Danny, do you have a selfie comparison, showing how ih focus the background is? I travel solo and often take selfies with monuments, buildings, landscapes etc. in the background and it's often either unfocused or washed out (I'm on S10 still and want to upgrade to S23!)
My BIGGEST complaint to the S23 (regular Not Plus or Ultra), I just switched to it from the Z Flip 4. The Speaker is MUCH lower (Quieter) than the Flip 4. I tried using on Speaker phone when driving yesterday, barely hear the person. I then picked up phone, used it normally and fine.
As i say in many videos,s23u have broken camera for a ultra phone.Even s23 plus have better camera.Samsung is making fun of himself 🤣🤣🤣 And many "youtubers" says it have best camera, iphone killer and other crap.Srsly people are hust dumb
Did you face HDR issues with S23 (regular)? I noticed a LOT of color banding when taking pictures of the sky (sunrise/sunset). It seems the issue is Samsung's HDR since this issue does not happen if I take pictures with another camera app. When there are clouds it is not so noticeable but if there is a blue sky, the pictures are terrible! I can send some examples if needed. Thanks.
I'm from Bangladesh and can you please tell me which was the version phone you used in this video about Samsung s 23 plus ? it was the global version or another country version!
Honestly, I really don't like the management of the background of the S23s, the background is almost always washed out, without contrast (almost overexposed), it looks like the S10. And above all, I don't like this kind of yellow-orange filter present on 90% of the photo-video, it looks like the iPhone 11 Pro, and the worst part is that it remains present even with the scene optimizer disabled. Samsung has clearly returned to its youthful loves, saturation and overexposure 🤦🏽♂️
The plus is way behind in zoom. The zoom most are referring to thinking it's close is only the main camera being cropped but the actual zoom comparison the ultra leaves the plus behind by far at 30x plus
S pen, bigger display, telephoto camera, 12gb ram, 200mp main camera, 8k night video, better night photography and better battery performance. Definitely worth extra 200$. But if you don't want to give extra penny, S23 plus is definitely the best choice.
Despite having a smaller battery the S23+ usually lasts a bit longer than the S23 ultra due to a smaller low-res display, probably by 20-30 minutes longer than the S23 ultra.

Appreciate you watching!
I like the camera as much as the next guy, but I don't think I can get onboard with the size of the Ultra after using the iPhone 13 Pro Max for the last two years or so. I decided to pick up the S23+ as I tend to think it looks cleaner. We'll see!
How has your experience been with the s23+, better than the 13 pro max?
How has your experience?
I really like less sharpening on Ultra, because you can get more sharpening after in edit, but you cannot never take it away. And photos with less sharpening look more like from DLSR than a phone.
Hi Danny Winget what camera and lens do you use for shooting 1:40s, phone in the hand? Thx for your comparison.
No wonder Samsung was so hesitant on giving the base and plus models real optical zoom camera.
For me, where photography is a great hobby, there is no question: the Ultra is much better, offers many more options.
How's the 8GB RAM doing this year? I owned S22 earlier and wasn't that great as compared to the S22U.
Thanks so much for the in depth look at the camera features on both Samsung phones. I'm surprised that Samsung pays so much attention to the camera features. I would have thought that the phone features (reception, clarity, voice, meetings) would be the biggest improvements.
Skip the ultra…unless you want zoom.
Really hope they make future Ultras as a flat screen.
@8:46 I am impressed at how much that woman behind you looks different between the 2 phones.
Really good side by side review.
I mean surely. Most people upgrading from perhaps 2-3 year old phones are going to see significant differences regardless.
Actually no,
I've compared my OnePlus 6 with gcam app to the s23 and it beats it most of the shots.
I noticed this on gsmarea site by comparing it with iPhone
Obviously the ultra is better I vastly prefer the design and flat display of the Plus
The S23 Plus does it good enough.
Its a fantastic device.
It will be my next device later this year.
Currently on the S21+
Thanks for this video, and best regards from me, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Aren't the front facing cameras identical on all S23 phones? Probably the main difference is the post processing.
Like the walking and taking pics test. I would really like to see how the s23u stacks up against the iphone and pixel on that test in particular.
I will add that to the tests then! 👊
@@dannywinget thanks Danny. I've made serious phone decision in the past based on your vids. I appreciate it!
yeah nighttime shots of moving targets, so many ruined photos from trying to take photos at night in bars with friends only to end up a blurry mess. Will be good to see what the latest do compared to the s10
Danny you should check out the night mode shadow details of the S23 ultra, they are worse than the S22, the noise suppression smoothed out the details in the shadow areas.
was about to buy s23 ultra, now im gonna change to s23plus. thanks a lot
Hw is battery life bro
@@sivakumargoud3631 It's great for me. It lasts me the whole day or even more (when I have light usage).
Ultra is just terrible in the hand. It's a block with sharp edges, curved screen where you will most likely have accidental touches, it's big as a tablet does not fit most pockets. S23 and 23+ is the reasonable choice here.
I wish they made a smaller version of the Ultra. Its like carrying a brick
What's up Danny, I see a lot of people debating whether to switch from the Z Fold to the Ultra, so how about a camera comparison between the two?
Interesting comparison.
Great work man. Always impressive with the comparisons.
I don't see any major difference between s23 plus and s23 ultra cameras
Low light video and overall zoom efficiency are better on the 23U, but the 23 and 23plus are brilliant stand alone devices. They aren't cheap, and their quality shines through. Especially via their brilliant cameras.
For $200 more I'd go for the S23 Ultra. Overall you get your money's worth. Bigger/better display, bigger battery, better cameras, s-pen
I recognise that picture, looks like my favourite hotel in London. Still happy I went with the S23 Ultra
I recently upgraded from an s20 to an s23+ and I don't regret not going with the ultra
Finaly samsung made the S23 lineup with better battery, I went for the 23 plus, fits better in the hand with rounded edges
I would like to see how the plus model holds up against the iPhone 14 Pro. Happy with my s23 plus so far. It's a great all rounder. Kind of wish they could have had the same 200mp main camera though. But in reality it's not far behind
s23 base is better the iphone pro models
thanks nice comparison the camera are really close, maybe because of the superior hardware the Ultra can leap forward with future software updates, but no skipping the Ultra is just boxier i am tired of the rounded corner designs
Rounded corners are easier to hold. S23 Ultra boxier design looks great but not suitable for one handed usage
@@BossAtwork69 hopefully i will experience that for myself when the Ultra arrives, good point but that will force me maybe to use my phone less 🙂
If I may ask, on the 23 ultra what do you have the camera set for 12, 50, or 200mp. Am having a hard time getting a sharp photo, even with a tripod. are you using focus lock? TIA
I bought the s23 ultra, everything is great but the size is super bad. Thinking to move to s23+
Danny , try the ca,era assistant setting and try different modes of photo softneing and quicker shutter option
I travel solo and often take selfies with monuments, buildings, landscapes etc. in the background and it's often either unfocused or washed out (I'm on S10 still and want to upgrade to S23!)
all the small differences amounted to a lot and this is why i bough the ultra coz minor details matter to me.
I have been waiting for this comparison for a long time, thanks for the content!
Exactly the video I was looking for, so not much difference between the two except in zoom and 200mp mode.
As i say in many videos,s23u have broken camera for a ultra phone.Even s23 plus have better camera.Samsung is making fun of himself 🤣🤣🤣
And many "youtubers" says it have best camera, iphone killer and other crap.Srsly people are hust dumb
Whats game on s23 plus
I have an s23ultra and it already has 23 hours with the screen off and 5 hours with the screen on, 28 hours since the last time I charged it 😇
The battery life is so legit!
@@dannywinget still has 45%
Thank you my friend. The decision was made S23+ plus for me, the decider was just size and feel 👍
What is the name of the game you are playing on your s23 plus smartphone at 1:30 minute of the video.!?
“And of course you have that 100x creeper mode if you absolutely need it”
Let’s call it what it is lol
You could review the microphone for videos; in the intro, it sounded bad for Plus. But okay, good video.
The microphone performance also changes with software updates so this is a idea I might play with. Thanks for the suggestion.
The plus is way behind in zoom. The zoom most are referring to thinking it's close is only the main camera being cropped but the actual zoom comparison the ultra leaves the plus behind by far at 30x plus
This comparison proves that the image quality is dependent on the processor rather than image sensors.
I know this has nothing to do with the video’s caption but what was he playing at the start of the video ? It looks so cool.
You always have the best comparison
And also authentic unlike some others
Pl do comparison of s23 fe with regular s23
Great job my friend, your are the best reviewer in the tube. Amazing cameras, 8k impress on S23 Ultra. Thank you!
The plus looked more colourful to me. But everything else seems right, the ultra is sharper.
@@HasanMotiurRahman-cn6tu Oww... That's much... Thanks for the info...
The squared off edges and the curve aren't my cup of tea so I went with the plus. Sexy piece if work even if the design is almost the same but eh
What's the best for food photography?
Please tell me which one shows real colours of subjects?
I think you convinced me to go from the Note 10+ to the 23 +. Im over the big boxy feel lol
A very interesting comparison. I hope that one day I will be able to afford at least one of these smartphones. Greetings from Ukraine !
