  • I just custom ordered this Sun Face with a BC183 chip direct from the good guys at Analogman. I felt like it was time to get something with the BC183 transistors. Why? I was on a big Cream kick a few weeks ago and read that this is the silicon transistor Eric Clapton had in his Fuzz Face. It's also Eric Johnson's preferred transistor and what was used in his signature pedal. I bought this one and a gently used SolidGoldFX 'If 6 Was 9' BC183 Fuzz MKII ( • SolidGoldFX - If 6 Was... ).
Anyway, this pedal sounds amazing, just like the other Analogman stuff I have. This video is just me trying to dial it in to a tone that I like and I figured I'd record it to give you an idea of the controls. Not as complex as other pedals, but it's really easy to get something amazing. Love having the Sun Dial on the exterior, although they say it's not necessary with a silicone transistor, it works for me.
In their words: Analog Man Sun Face pedals cover all of the Fuzz Face versions plus more. The Sunface has many transistor options, there is no BEST transistor, they are all very similar but have some differences that could make some better than others for your needs.
BC183 : Medium high gain. I like these best for a general silicon fuzz. Almost all the silicon transistors sound about the same if you use trans with the same gain ranges. But these BC183 are all in the right gain range so it's easier to make a more consistent and excellent sounding fuzz. These are really smooth, almost like a germanium sound and people often are surprised at how well they clean up.
This is merely a first impressions video - more to follow.
This demo was made with a 1997 Fender Voodoo Strat loaded with Seymour Duncan Texas Hot Antiquities, 9-46 Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's plugged into Marshall DSL15C. Nothing special mic wise, just an iPhone 12 Pro on a tripod.

This is such an awesome tone. I might look into getting one of these pedals. I've been seeing this company pop up more lately but I haven't really looked into them much

They're a bit expensive, but they make great pedals and the value is there IMO.
