      Poisonous paragraphs, smash ya phonograph in half
      It be the Inspectah Deck on the warpath
      First class leavin mics with a cast
      Causin ruckus like the aftermath when guns blast
      Run fast, here comes the verbal assaulter
      Rhymes runnin' wild like a child in a walker
      I scored from the inner slums abroad
      And my thoughts are razor sharp
      I slice the mic from the cord
      First they criticize
      But now they have become mentally paralyzed
      With hits that I devise
      Now I testify, the rest is I
      Rebel INS, Your Highness
      Blessed to electrify with voltage of an eel
      Truth that I reveal'll
      Crush the amateurs who scream they keep it real
      Caesar black down, hoodied up in fatigues
      Part-time minor leagues receive third degrees
      Attack like a wolf pack, once I pull back

    I get what he is saying. Method Man appeals to the basic common denominator- everyone can understand Method. A lot of GZA's stuff goes over people's heads. Method Man was definitely the most popular member of WuTang in 93 when they came out. Maybe he still is. Liquid Swords and OB4CL are easily my two favourite wu albums but initially I liked Meth the best too.

  • @dunadan1995
    @dunadan1995 9 лет назад +160

    To anyone asking why Wu-Tang fans are mad - Because 50 literally dissed lyricism of GZA, RZA etc. by saying that their rhymes were so smart that they were sounding dumb. Which is insane from a lyrics standpoint, you are supposed to be lyrical and smart, no one should diss you for that, it's crazy.

    • @magpipe146
      @magpipe146 5 лет назад +54

      Tbh I see what 50 is trying to say and that’s coming from a wu fan, especially with RZA it gets to the point where it just sounds like he’s trying to hard rhyming all these sophisticated words together and for 1. most people don’t wana have to decipher your lyrics like a hieroglyph just to get the point your trying to make and 2. Just because you you know a bunch of intelligent deep words and can rhyme them together doesn’t make it inherently good, intelligence and cleverness are two different things

    • @mightydread3116

      Magpipe that’s the difference between a kool g rap and genius both super lyrical both kool is more straight to the point ❤️👊🏿💚

    • @SageofSorrow
      @SageofSorrow 5 лет назад +9

      Though his statement is a tad controversial, I think I understand what he was trying to say. Basically he’s saying GZA tries too hard to sound smart and it comes off corny(to him). There are a lot of rappers that try to pull of intellectual style rhymes and it comes off “stupid”. Eminem poked fun at this style of rhyming with his “super lyrical, spiritual, miracle, individual.....in your swimming pool” line at the BET cypher. Basically someone speaking a bunch of convoluted bars about aliens and miracles but not really saying anything.
      I completely disagree with that statement in regards to GZA, but that style of rap does get tiring to listen to after a while. You gotta have more than just intellectual bars to sustain your listening time or it gets repetitive quick. That’s why members like Ghostface prospered. He had intelligent rhymes but also mixed in wit and humor, vivid/cinematic storytelling etc.

    • @LuizGustavo-sl3hd
      @LuizGustavo-sl3hd 4 года назад +3

      @@SageofSorrow I understand, but it's not true to say that "GZA is limited to trying to be superior lyrically", he has sounds that are just wordplay and fun like Breaker, Breaker and The Mexican

    • @cipher.u.justice
      @cipher.u.justice 4 года назад +3

      @@SageofSorrow I'm not sure he was going that far. A lot of new cats these days when you make them listen to Triumph they say that "it's good but.." they can't connect with it, because the lyrics can get a little abstract, there is no hook, etc. That's why 50 concedes that Liquid Swords "is good but.." and then brings up Meth again. Meth had mass appeal, was the hook master, and always had down to earth lyrics that was clear and easy to understand on first listen. I think 50 was just trying to express this in his own words, mixed with a little sour grapes.

    “He’s the best, That’s why he had to come out first”
    Nah, he came out first cause he was the superstar of the clan. RZA was a genius for releasing his album first, he could have easily released OB4CL or Return to the 36 Chambers but he knew that Meth was basically the face of the Wu-Tang Clan. I love Method Man, and every member is equally good in their own way and together they’re unstoppable. But saying Method Man is your favorite is like saying Iron Man is your favorite Avenger cause he’s popular

As much as I like GZA, INS and them, there’s a reason why they never really blew up as solo acts. Where I'm from, if you still fuxk with someone after they've given you the cold shoulder, you a nerd, but, hey, what do I know?
      Nas had Fif on his tour back in the '90s. Later on, Fif did a record with J Lo. He got shot. Irv Gotti & Murder Inc conspired to get him off the record & Nas stepped in. Fif felt disrespect, especially, after they've built up a rapport.
      Let's not forget, Fif was up and coming. Nas was already well-known. Fif needed that record way more than Nas did.
      In any case, Fif always paid tribute to Nas' first album. Saying that album was HOT.
