This game had badass gunplay sequences, and it really did justice to the kingpin. He's MASSIVE!
He is absolutely huge, I forgot how big he was
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Kingpin Looks 10 ft Tall in The Arcade Game as Opposed to Him Being 6'7 in Comics!!!
It's funny playing Spider-Man and Punisher back to back, because of how much smaller the Kingpin sprite is in the former.
i know Im pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Bodhi Arlo try Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
The most badass portrayal of him is Punisher: War Zone. It's unconventional approach compared to the first movie and the series is why it stands out. He's like 100x more ultra violent and shows ZERO mercy.
That was THE BEST PORTRAYAL OF HIM..and best movie.. 100
It was ultraviolent but honestly I don't recall much about the movie
Blake Melkey Exactly! =D Of all The Punisher-movies that one is my favorite and even though it's not perfect, fuck what everybody else says, that one is the closest to its source material and unlike Marvel's Punisher season 2, that one actually had Jigsaw! That was Jigsaw, not the puny scars shit in season 2! I like Jon Bernthal in the role, but Ray Stevenson nailed it and he even looked more like Frank Castle!
Agreed! I think a lot of people didn't like it because it had very little mainstream appeal. It was exactly like the comic book and one of the only comic book movie portrayals I know of to do that.
I really liked War Zone. It was way over the top and crazy but I thought it worked and made me think of the comics way more than the Thomas Jane Punisher film. Loved how over the top Jigsaw was
I cannot Express how much I enjoy your videos. From the quick history, to the consoles that received them. As of now, your playlist is what I have playing for my "home gym". Keep up the great work during this mentally draining times.
I appreciate the nice words. I'm glad I'm able To provide some sort of distraction from everything that's happening in the real world. Keep your chin up and stay safe
That villain death scream is burned into my brain from hours of playing the genesis version.
LOL
Capcom did an amazing job with this game, the gameplay is smooth, with lots of moves, weapons & items at your disposal; the music is superb, composed by Yuki Iwai and the artwork is really faithful to the books, with characters not made up but actually appearing in The Punisher comics and other Marvel titles.
Just don't play the hispanic version lol, it looks like they grabbed a chicano passing by and assigned the translation to him.
Absolutely, they did a stellar job
There actually was a great Punisher game made for the consoles around the mid 2000s it had some great brutality to it and captured the character very well.
Yes there was... I had that game and it was one of my favorites on the original Xbox. ruclips.net/video/zKVXEKEltqE/видео.html
I had it for my Xbox but don't recall it being that great. Maybe I should go back and check it out
I heard you today in The History Of Outrun. Way to go man. One of the UKs biggest creators has obviously taken notice of your amazing talent too. You are the man Pat!
Thank you very much, he always puts out such great content so I was thrilled when I got the chance.
I have the Arcade1Up Countercade Marvel vs Capcom which includes this game. I only found this game in passing in arcades as a I kid and finally got to run through it on the Arcade1Up. Great game.
One of my favorite beat-em-ups. Good video, man, I hope your channel keeps on growing.
Thanks a lot, I sure hope so too
Played this only recently at the retro arcade in Takadanobaba here in Tokyo. It’s a great beat-em-up!
Absolutely it's a classic
One of my favorite Marvel characters. Still play this on my tablet. Great vid. Daredevil would of been 🔥
One of my favorites as well. I would have loved to have played as daredevil. Thanks

The Punisher always inspires me to go to the gym💪
It's one of my favorite capcom game. Seen it only twice in the wild and nowadays I'm left with playing the game on an emulator.
Just found your channel and I'm a fan. This episode brought back so many childhood memories. Thanks you

Any chance you gotta do the Time Crisis series?
I love this channel. Dude is a great narrator!
Thank you kindly!
subscribed a year ago? think i have like 25% of your content watched....i must say your subject matter level of detail is second to none imo. But your delivery is where you shine ! Such a soothing tone, i think you would've made a better narrator than the one in A Christmas story, Wonder years, or Stand by me?

Hey Patman, I'm one of the few people who played a perfect game of The Punisher arcade. While Nick Fury and The Punisher do play nearly identically, there is one key difference... and once you know why, you'll realize why all perfect punisher gamers choose Nick Fury.
When you do the flash-kick maneuver (down-up attack) the Punisher does a roundhouse kick while Nick Fury does a Guile-style flashkick. The flash kick actually has a longer ranger than the Punisher's roundhouse kick. This edge in distance, as well as the quirk that some enemies will stay out of reach of the Punisher's roundhouse kick but NOT Nick's flashkick is what gives him the edge in the game.
Also it is vital to racking up as much points as possible as the very last edge of the flashkick, when it hits, gives more points than most attacks. Without it, making a perfect game would be much, much harder.
Excellent, kudos. That is fantastic and I never knew that. Thanks for the info
This is probably my favourite beat 'em up arcade of all time. Keep up the good work mate.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate the nice words
I really want a new Punisher game
So do I
Great video! I've always loved arcade beat 'em up games. They were always my favorite quarter-munchers from back in the day. 😂
Thank you, I always loved them as well
Classic beatem up ! Enjoyed this as its one of my faves, thanks for posting :)
One of my favorites as well, thanks for watching
Great video. Punisher is still my favorite arcade beat em up.
It's definitely a classic
Solid video. I liked this game a lot when I was younger. I put in some time at the small arcade in the local pizza place.
Thank you,
Only played punisher on nes , loved it. Great video as always.
Thank you very much
Another great video 👍
Thank you very much
Great review, super fun game!
Thank you 🤗
Another well done retrospective. The Punisher is one bad dude. And this arcade game is awesome to the max. Capcom knows how to make great beat-em ups. Keep it up, dude! Hope you do Alien vs. Predator soon. ^_^
Thanks for the nice words, I'm sure I will cover AVP at some point
Swiss Superman sighting, confirmed!!! Love me some Cesaro! Thanks, Patman!
Good eyeballs, thank you
Christmas 1996 my mom bought me the punisher and castlevania bloodlines for the Sega Megadrive. Will never forget this !
Excellent, thanks for sharing
I remember playing this game in the mid '90s and it really made an impression on me; just like the Spiderman arcade game featuring Namor and Hawkeye!!
I always enjoyed it
Another great video
Thank you very much
Great job. I loved this game. The fact you use guns and not lasers is awesome. Feels more brutal. Throwing knives and using other stuff for weapons was great. Just a good overall beat ‘em up.
It really is, and like you mentioned using real weapons found on the street which is something Frank castle would do
I've had this game for a while. I haven't played it yet, but I think I will after watching this!
It's a lot of fun
That little wink u did at the end...
About playing with yourself..

Nice in depth review.
I grew up playing the punisher on mega drive and only recently discovered the arcade thanks to mame and retro pie and I must say it's brilliant. Cheers🍻you just got another subscription.
Thanks for subscribing, welcome aboard
Awesome job with the vid! I've a huge fan of everything Punisher. I vaguely remember playing this in the arcade. The Genesis port has become extremely expensive over the years. The one I have the most memories with is the nes one.
Thank you very much. I don't do a whole lot of retro collecting nowadays but I do know The cartridge is expensive
9:13 “The only way to help them, is to add more quarters.”
Now I feel guilty for all the times I was out of quarters. 😂
LOL
The punisher kick ass I got to play the arcade game and the Sega genesis version.
@Chuck MaGee good luck dude.
The arcade game is much better but the Genesis is only average
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I'll play the arcade version then.

Awesome game!! The Punisher for PS2 was great as well.

Oh man, some of the executions on that game were brutal, but yet so hilarious!
Like slowly lowering the bench drill towards the guys skull, or repeatedly smacking a guy in the head with a refridgerator door!! 😂

Hey Patman! I believe that's "CHIP" (Punisher trusted sidekick) giving CPR on continuation screen. L.O.L.🤣Funny 9:15
Micro

I have the Arcade1up Marvel Superheroes and bought it for Punisher. I bought a vinal art kit to re-skin it to look like the original Punisher cab. Its great.
Bought the 1up Arcade cabinet for the fighting games and this was a very pleasant surprise included
That's a nice little bonus :-)
I like the bad ass music at the end when you beat The Punisher arcade game 😂
Hey Patman, another great video! I am really enjoying learning the history of these excellent arcade games! Any chance you could look at Power Drift? Stay safe.
I thought about it, and I'm sure I will cover it at some Point. I've always loved the game and there are some dreadful conversions I could talk about LOL
YES! my fav. next to D&D side scrollers and the AVP game
It is an awesome game
Great Capcom brawler....
I never played this in the arcades back then since it wasnt on offer in my local arcades. Therefore, I lack that craving feeling I have with the games I did play in the arcades, such as Final Fight or Turtles. I can play these games on Mame and relive the arcade feelings from yesterdecades...going home to my thrustworthy c64 and Amiga....wishing a true version of these games would be available on a home system....seemed impossible back then ;)
This game (and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs) were very popular down here in Brazil, I played them a lot with a friend back in the day.
We didn't see Cadillacs and dinosaurs around here very much
3:36 WOW! I still have a bunch of those Marvel Comics cards. Cool to see it there!
Very cool, I had some of these when I was a kid
Hey Patman, thank you for making a documentary for my all time favourite arcade game and that's why I subscribed and liked :) This brings back the beautiful memories that I can finish the game with only one coin (of course after many many times of practice ) I like beat them up games but especially this one because of the art work of characters/enemies, sounds, boss design, variety of moves/weapons to use and so much more, it is just a masterpiece! This game actually needs very high skill to play good and enjoy. Last year I went to Japan and I went to many arcade places to play this game, I went to almost all the big arcade places in Tokyo, unfortunately couldn't find it. Is there anyone knows that where can I play this game now?
Thank you, one quarter? That's insane. i'm sure fun stop as well as galloping ghost arcades has the game. Unless it's the real arcade cabinet you want to play on you could always use the mame emulator.
It's hard to find the real arcade cabinets these days, do you know any good emulator for Macbook? thx @@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries
@@jake263 I am pretty sure the Mame emulator was ported over to Mac OS
I really liked the NES Punisher, even though it was made by LJN. It was fun to play. Shooting thugs and dodging bullets. It wasn't that bad. Especially the bosses who alternated the shooting with hand to hand combat sequences. Nice channel btw. ✌
I seem to enjoy as a kid but going back trying to play it now it was brutal in my opinion. Glad you enjoyed my channel :-)
Great game, great video! Cheers!
Thank you very much :-)
I am the only man on earth that likes the Punisher NES game.
LOL
@captain0080
I don't get it either. As a kid I enjoyed the Nes Punisher game a lot and all the kids in my school thought it was a cool shooting game.
@@UkonJohnNord plus it was one of the few ljn games that wasn't really bad
Nice video, and always thought this beat em up was one of the underrated ones from Capcom.
Some notes, however.
While Frank and Nick are indeed the same sprites, some of their moves are actually different.
They both had different combos and their standard 'all-around' move (hitting both attack + jump while on the ground), Frank did the funny 360 low sweep while Nick pulled out nunchucks(!) and flailed with them in front of him to hit multiple times.
There was a LOT of versatility in attacks and moves. From simply being able to change the ending hit of your combo by holding a direction (which for Frank, will switch between the slashing axe kick or a thrusting punch that moves him forward), to changing how you throw your opponent from a grab. Obviously grabbing someone, jumping and THEN hitting attack to do a more spectacular throw does a ton more damage to enemies.
Giant Swing is activated by grab and then attack+jump. It works on any enemy that can be grabbed. EVEN THE KINGPIN (take note of the attention to detail, like how long the start-up is!).
The player's guns will come out depending on what the enemies bring out. If enemies wielding firearms come up, the guns come out blazing. If cybernetic enemies (Pretty Boys) show up, guns come out. You can make one boss fight a bit easier (against the Reaver, where the heck did Kingpin get this guy? They're usually X-Men villains!) by dodging and leaving the Pretty Boys alone, so your gun will stay out and you can instead aim and fire upon the boss with impunity.
Cutscenes at end of and between stages change in dialogue depending on if you're playing Frank alone, Nick alone or them together.
The biggest example being how the first boss (Scully) is dealt with. Obviously Frank kills him if he's by himself, but if Nick is solo, he simply knocks the boss out.
Though does nothing (aside from a verbal protest) when they're together and Frank shoots Scully anyway!
This was the first Marvel game that release by Capcom
I literally just got this for WinKawaks. It's a great NeoGeo/Capcom emulator and they have the roms onsite, including metal slug, street fighter and 1942 (I love shmups) This game is very similar to Final Fight, but easier imo. Thanks for the great video! You da man, Patman!
It is very similar but just different enough. Thanks for the nice words :-)
Along with Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, the beat em up with the tightest playability. So addictive
Yes it really was
I was five when this first came out...
NOSTALGIA!
Thanks patman
Thank you for watching
This is one I could finish on a quarter back in the day - and it really was one of the best beat'em ups ever made. There's a tactility and weight to the enemies, such that when you attack robots you can feel that they are just so much heavier than normal human enemies. There was always a surplus of weapons to use (knives, guns, swords etc) and generally it was just mayhem in a cabinet. The trick on the bosses was waiting until certain enemy types triggered your gun mode, and then focussing on the boss instead of those enemy types. You could use grenades to avoid those attacks that would otherwise flatten you. True story - I've never played as Nick Fury in this game.
Holy moly, one quarter is just insane. Good job
Hey Alex, you have described some good details of the game, you can really feel the weight of the enemies such as robots and Kingpin , robots can take so mush gun shot and you can really feel the heavy weight when you pick up the Kingpin and through away! About the trick about using the gun at some level and bosses are very tricky and useful, especially at Stage 5 boss Guardroid 2 and final boss Kingpin triggered gun mode is very useful and satisfying! I've always play as Nick Fury , actually he has longer range down-up kick which is very useful like Stage 4 boss Bushwacker.
Aw man, I loved that original Punisher game. @1:22. I think I may still have it somewhere
It was okay in my opinion
The Punisher is my absolute favorite Marvel character. He's grounded in reality and what's more The Punisher provides a valuable community service. What's more...the man loves his firearms. I am not into comics anymore but I still love the character. His symbol is often used today by our soldiers and law enforcement all over the country....that's pretty cool.
One thing, I don't think the firearms are falling apart in the Punisher Arcade cab. I always took it as they ran dry and he merely tosses them away. It would make sense as Frank isn't likely carrying an assortment of rounds on his person to match that many different weapons. Further, firearms are exceptionally tough and are built to be abused (they're essentially tools of war). Yes, they will breakdown over time if they're not properly taken care of but after dumping 30-50 rounds out of them...no. A grenade would cause significant damage to a room and kill most people in it (or grievously wounding them). It would not however take out a building. Can you imagine our soldiers or a Swat team carrying around an explosive divice that could do that as part of their normal kit?! Oops, I just leveled a skyscraper in downtown whatever....do you think anyone will notice?!
I always loved the attention to detail this game showed back in the early 1990's. Shell casings get discharged from the weapons in an accurate fashion (correct side). They show proper feedback when firing like the slide in the many semiautos he employs in game. I also enjoy the many varied firearms he uses and all (if I remember correctly) are all based in reality. Even as a kid, I hated seeing fake looking firearms in games and film. I also love the Cadillac's and Dinosaur's arcade cab for the very same reason....the guns in a beat em' up were just so refreshing and added realism.
The Genesis version was extremely sloppy too say the least. Looking at Streets of Rage 2 one can see it had the chops to have hige beautiful sprites, far more than 10 characters at once, and blow past the 64 color limitation it was straddled with (many devs did this with some games having over 100 colors on screen). Look at Thunder Force IV to see 20-30 characters on screen at once, multilayered parallax scrolling, eye popping colors, and a soundtrack to die for. The Genesis could in all honesty come damn close to the arcade cab with enough ROM. Ghouls N' Ghosts/Strider were made on the same CPS hardware and they looked damn close to the arcades graphics on the Genesis.
You could be right about the firearms not breaking apart, that's just the way I took it. Punisher on the Genesis was competent enough but it could have been much better.
The game is definitely a classic is too bad it's never been released anywhere else aside from the one up Cabinet
Nice video. Also, there is one more tidbit that you forgot to mention: this game is Capcom's first Marvel-licensed game. Without this, we would not have gotten Marvel vs. Capcom.
Thank you, I thought I did mention that?
PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries I looked in the description and it turns out that you did mention that. I thought it was in the video. Forgive me.
I loved this. I also had it on my phone
It's a great brawler
Ohhh yea I’ll be playing this later 😎
Great review, loved the games. Any particular reason you call bosses, mini-bosses?
That's just what they are referred to as if you read the manual for the game
As a punisher fan this is my favorite punisher game of all time.
It's my favorite Punisher game as well
Nice video! I never heard about Daredevil, but if he was considered in pretty sure Marvel would have vetoed it the second they learned Matt would be able to shoot a gun. They may have even offered Fury as a suggestion, even though Frank and Nick barely knew each other at that point in the comics. If anyone is interested in how this game takes direct inspiration from the Punisher’s comics origins in its level design, there’s a video on my channel that breaks it down.
Also, I wasn’t aware of the Genesis censorship you pointed out behind the blood, but I think the actual most notable thing is the opening cutscene, which totally removes the scene of Frank’s family dying. It’s almost as though Sega didn’t want kids being murdered in cold blood on their console...
Thanks for the review, the Punisher is my favorite Marvel anti- hero besides Wolverine, Spawn and Deadpool (just take a look at my icon..💀). I played this game a lot, but it’s so like Fatal Fury and Final Fight that I was able to get through this one, I even had on Genesis. They could’ve made it a little more violent but I understand that they were marketing to everyone kid, young and older. I even had the Punisher game for PlayStation 2 but my favorite is still the original one from NES, dispute how bad it is, I still get a kick playing. I was so angry that Netflix canceled their Punisher series, the other ones were ok. I hope when Disney get the rights back they continue it, but we’ll see what happens. Love your channel, keep up the good work.
Excellent icon :-) I was always a Batman fan growing up (and still am) so when these two had a crossover in the 90s I thought it was fantastic. I will have to go back and played the PS2 version again. Thanks for the nice words

There really should be a CAPCOM MARVEL collection. Those games were awesome. Also somehow release the Aliens vs Predator arcade game
That's another game that really needs to come out that I forgot about
I own the PAL version of the MD port and boy is it going up in price... 😆 Special mention must go to the 2005 game. One of the best games I've played back then. 👍
I knew it was going up in price a few years ago! Good job
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I bought it about five or six years ago. Was already expensive.
I used to play this game faithfully in arcades. I don't remember blue flames after kicks. I remember seeing kicks as someone getting cut, not burned.
It was the Japanese version that was being played so perhaps that's why
This game is a blast to play on arcades and on Sega Genesis/megadrive
