I just finished watching a speedrun of Sly Spy. It was very interesting. Sometimes, the golden-gun pieces were deliberately skipped so that it was later completed in the underwater sections. Having the golden-gun for the underwater bosses made them die instantly. For the tiger fight, he deliberately fired away all his ammo so he could boot the tigers in their heads for faster kills. For the Oddjob fight, again, he went in without ammo to jump-kick him in the head. He beat the game in less than 10-minutes.
There are some pretty wacky exploits in Double Dragon as well, the speedrunner doesn't even bother to stop for bridge Abobo, just leaves him unscathed 😁
Again PatManQC comes at me with a brilliant video of a game I’ve never actually played. A spy game in the bad dudes style?! Why did I never see this. Watching this on my projector while in lockdown. Thanks Patman. Great stuff.
I played this a long time ago at the local county fair as a kid and have been trying to remember the name for decades, thank you for covering it and helping me solve my mystery!
Never seen Sly Spy in my arcades. But I sort of stopped going there around 1987 as new games didn't appealed to me anymore. Late 1970s and eartly to mid 1980s was "my time". Thus I played a lot Data East games earlier. One I really liked was Astro Fighter but didn't know it was by Data East. First time a recognized their logo was on Karate Champ.
Hey I just wanted to tell you I’ve only recently found your channel and I absolutely love it! It has made self quarantine much more bearable. Thank you so much for all this education on one of my life’s loves.
As I went through all of the thousands of games on MAME - this one was a terrific surprise! .. I've always loved James Bond; I've seen every single one, Dr No was the first movie I actually saw in a cinematic setting. So - loading this up and recognising all of the references was a treat. There are surpisingly few "spy" games ... for arcade machines, Spy Hunter is one of the only obvious other nods to James Bond and his gadget-laden cars. Cloak and Dagger from 1983 is worth checking out Elevator Action also deserves to be considered a good spy game
You know, Data East really were the unsung heroes of gaming. They released so many absolute smash hits, it absolutely boggles my mind that at some point - they went under, and before we got the Shadowrun 2 that was promised to us, sadly. Data east, you are sorely missed by this 90s kid. If only you had stayed in business a little longer, what might have been.
I'm genuinely shocked; I mentioned this one in passing on another one of your videos and you actually went and did it! Excellent work too, including stuff I never even knew! Thank you so much! ^_^
inphanta Yeah I mentioned it a while back too. Pat must have a long list and adds to it as we go. I’m hoping for Legend of Kage! That game on the C64 made me foam at the mouth with anger 🤣
I discovered this game through Data East Arcade Classics a few years ago liked it so much that I decided that I needed it for my favorite machine- my Atari ST. I purchased it just a few months ago and love it.
A personal fave of mine as a kid but I never had enough money in my pockets to ever near completing... ok I don’t even think I got to level 4 🤣.You get all the fun of Bad Dudes with added Bond-ness so it’s a win win! I always got the name mixed up with The Super Spy by SNK for Neo Geo. That played like an on rails first person perspective fighter/shooter. Fun in its own right but I love Data East stuff .First class video Pat. 👍
It's one of those games I'm surprised they never got sued for. They were very lucky. Also 0:31 as someone who grew up with James Pond that was hilarious reference. 😄
First, I loved it when you said "pop" because that's what we say here and people always make fun because of it haha. Next, I can't thank you enough for making these videos, I know I commented before that, at the beginning of this lock down, my wife left and took the kids. I have congestive heart failure from a massive heart attack and a quadruple bypass, so I can't leave the house. Things have been terrible here and the loneliness gets unbearable, but each time you post a video, it really helps get through this all. Also, I love the games of old, seeing as I am old haha. I know I do this on every video, but I just want you to know you are appreciated and I always look forward to seeing what's next! Thank you my friend :D
You know I never knew about this arcade game so thanks for telling me about it I would have definitely enjoyed it back in the day even today I would like to try it out.
Awesome arcade documentary as always, sir! Though I believe the James Bond actor referenced in the clips is Timothy Dalton, not George Lazenby. I love your videos, they take me back to the days when our family would vacation to the US and I would look forward to playing at the arcades. You are a blessing to those memories.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Oh! my apologies. I had missed that reference. Lazenby was definitely the greatest bond ever, HaHa. Thanks for correcting me on that, and I look forward to your future vids. Cheers!
Used to love this on the C64, especially the music (tried to make the shorter levels last as long as the tunes!) Only thing was, I had it on tape and loading each level took ages...
I loved this game when I was in the arcade. I always wanted them to port this onto the early Nintendo consoles and the Genesis. Also I would put either 007bor 086

Great video I won't ever forget walking into Diamond Jim's arcade in Dothan and seeing this game. It really blew me away.

I played this at my childhood grocery store while my mom was shopping

The music for the Amiga was really good. !
I’d always input “007” at the code screen.
So would I :-)
I was still pretty young but those were wild and fun times
This was a pretty rare game in my childhood. I played it once and was hurried out of the pizza place. Next time I went there they had Robocop.
There were a few arcades around Here when I was growing up that had It
Wait, are you not gonna explain that ending that say "you missed a few things, try again"?
It's a load of bull.
Either by coding error or being a total lie but there are no secret items that change the ending on a second playthrough.
Isn't this meant to be a hint to the president's daughters? I mean, why would the president wink?
The President was with the terrorists. That's the twist
Also, its funny to see all the advertising for other data east games within this one. I seen a Karnov poster and Bad Dudes!
Data East had style. You could be RoboCop, a ninja or a spy.
Here's an arcade for you, 64th Street: A Detective Story, remember that one?
