Honestly, Shattered Dimensions probably benefited from being linear because that's one of the things that really set it apart from the games that preceded it. Remember, Activision published a new Spider-Man game almost every year from 2000 to 2014. Spider-Man 2 was groundbreaking since it was the first one to have an open world. But then we had Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3, and Web of Shadows. It might be hard for a lot of modern gamers to imagine, but the open world format got stale. Of course, Beenox did eventually develop TASM1 and TASM2, which were both open world and had combat based on the Arkham series. Both games had their flaws, but they still arguably helped to pave the way for Marvel's Spider-Man and its sequels.

And although i don't think Insomniac's open world will get stale anytime soon because the games are being released a few years apart, plus they're starting to expand the map beyond Manhattan... I do think the series might eventually benefit from the inclusion of missions that take place outside the main map.
I prefer to have the physical disk, that way if there's a blackout I can still play them on a portable dvd player. Now if I want to watch a movie I have to buy it.

The internet is shaky at the best of times, so I don't really like the idea of using netflix, I prefer to have the physical disk, that way if there's a blackout I can still play them on a portable dvd player. I miss it too. Just roaming the aisles seeing what was available. Much simpler time. And I also prefer physical media. I like knowing the game or movie I own is mine and won’t go anywhere
I always wanted to play this game and still do. Web of Shadows was the only Spider-Man game I played after Spider-Man 1 & 2 on the original xbox. I got rid of the Web of Shadows many years ago, and now it's one of the most expensive Spider-Man games. I've only dabbled in the new games, and while they're good, they are far from as good as the Arkham games imo. Marvels Guardians of the galaxy was a huge standout as of late, though, and easily my 2021 GOTY.
If you can I still highly recommend Shattered Dimensions ( if you can find it for a reasonable price). I managed to get it cheap from GameStop once before all of their ps3 games were gone. I want to try and get to web of shadows one day. I shelled out nearly 100 for it😅 And Guardians is such a good game!!! Definitely up there as one of 2021s best games
