Lando, in his much faster car reminds me of Albon when he drove for Red Bull. He had the grip to make passes on most other drivers on the outside, or because drivers in much slower cars aren't fighting him they'd just let him by rather than using up their tires fighting him. But when it comes to racing another top driver in a good car he's always trying to pass on the outside rather than braking early and cutting underneath.
The difference between the rules in the attacking or defending car and if you are ahead at the apex. Max was defending and was ahead of the apex therefore norris had no right of way on that corner. Norris was therefore not forced off track. Max had a tracklimits for not making the corner and norris, but he overtoke off track because it was not his corner. Therefore the penalty and mclaren did not handle it right. George was attacking on bottas different instance. I don't think the rules are right, but these are what they are. I believe car on the inside has right of way always. Makes it hard for overtaking but easy to judge. And if you divebomb you need to make the corner for not forcing somebody off. If you make it good for you. The outside guy should have defended the inside.
Regarding Landon, pressure bust pipes! What he is experiencing is the pressure of expectations at another level relative to Lewis and Max. That Championship level expectation. At least that's what I think.

Peter needs to accept that Lando doesn't have the killer instinct to become a world champion. I imagine McLaren will rally around Piastri in 2025
It is hard for me to assess because i could never be as dedicated at any one thing as all these F1 drivers are. In my view Max always did well because he had a great car, now I look at what he does with his car, even when Perez is 10 spots behind. I have come around to the sheer talent Max must have to adapt and extract the most out of his attempts. Hats off to RB fans, I believe if you put him in each car, you would get a true look at what the each car could actually achieve.
Lando's car was over half a second faster than Max's and he couldn't overtake for like 10 laps, despite having significant lower deg and newer tires. I really doubt he would be able to overtake Max again, especially considering he didn't do it cleanly the first time around, and he spent 10 laps following closely being Max. Not only running in dirty air forces the driver to overdo it to keep up, but the dirty air is itself really hot from the other car, heating up the tires and the engine.
The way his engineer talks , like he is asking Lando for permission at all times , it's not like at RB or Mercedes were the engineers become firm with the drivers , McLaren also treat their drivers like school kids and not adults
Just wanted to say how cool it is that you are working with Peter. I grew up with him on the Speed Channel here in the USA. His voice is part of my childhood. Crazy too see it carry over
Charles is the only driver close to Max this season, VERY close actually. Consistently maximized his weekends apart from the 4 weekends after Monaco. If he had scored even 10 points per weekend in those 4 races he'd have had a shot now vs Max.
Wasn’t the first battle at that corner this weekend where both cars went off. Difference nobody actually made moves off the track and kept position aside from lap 1 incidents where there is a different rule set for the circumstances. Lando either has to take the inside there once he gets passed, or do a switch back on Max.
I don’t think they’ve been any worse than RBR this year on strategy. It’s more the politics of the two drivers they’ve erred on, which is decided above the strategy dept
Easier for Max to defend against Norris than Lewis. Different levels. Lando made Max look good. Norris has the gear but no idea! He will never win a WDC IMHO. OP81 is better than Norris.
Lando will lose because of Lando and no one else. All it takes to win championships is a fast car remember He’s had the fastest car since Miami and still gets beat 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Signing Hamilton and "sacking Carlos" is, as Peter said, is absolutely unbelievable! Hamilton's had his day.. 7 world championships! Isn't that enough!! And to be honest I don't think Hamilton will get 8 whatever car he's in!
Lando needs to hit up Nico Rosberg. If Lando truly wants to hit his true potential he needs to humble himself and seek out any and all info available. Not all world championships are equal. Nico realized that winning a world championship during a prolonged period of Hamilton dominance would take a super human effort and if he pulled it off would be sweeter and more satisfying than any other championship. He left no stone unturned, he stayed monk like in his focus and discipline and he got the job done. Don’t betray your talent Lando by not giving the effort that talent deserves, that’d be mighty disappointing.
I was watching Peter long before I discovered your channel. I always loved how good he is, giving unbiased analyses, and with so much knowledge. He is one of the voices of reason in a quite biased and polarised F1 landscape.
You should’ve leaned into Peter’s point about blaming McLaren by bringing up Lando’s radio message after the race when he told his team they should’ve told him to give the position back. In addition, bring up the point that perhaps McLaren didn’t have confidence Lando could overtake Verstappen again and decided to put all their hopes on FIA not giving him a 5 second penalty.
for overtaking off the track the penalty normally is 10 sec. but bc they both went off track they only gave him 5 sec. And they didn’t give him any penalty for tracklimits 4x so Lando was lucky to finish 4th!
@@tcfan008currently that’s debatable. And besides, as much as Lewis is the better driver. He’s on his way out, he’s got a few more years in him max, and we’re already seeing that take a toll on his qualifying performances. Instead, they’ve gotten rid of a driver in their prime who can comfortably play second fiddle to leclerc, and pick up wins and good points when leclerc isn’t there. The perfect 2nd driver. Also their driving style differences, leclerc prefers a lot of oversteer, and Hamilton prefers understeer. So now they have to try and balance that instead of developing the best car they can for their number 1 driver

It should be mentioned that the McLaren is god awful in the first half of the race, how many times do we see Norris and Piastri fall back by 5-6 seconds at the start of a race
And the red bull was god awful in the second stint which was longer than the first stint. The difference is, when Max’s car was good he pulled away from lando. And when landos car was good, he couldn’t get past max for nearly 16 laps with much fresher tyres AND DRS. That’s the difference, the driver

Totally agree with Peter re. the overtake. But I cannot beleive nobody is pointing out that McLaren should've got Piastri into the pits right when that happened to both alleviate the risk of Lando getting penalised behind Piastri and also get Piastri a free point for fastest lap for the Constructors. What were they thinking!
Curious. Same weekend, Max did mantain his pole but apparently "it's too wide to defend pole".... well except for Max apparently. The excuses are infinite for Rich Boy Norris. It's his daddy a sponsor at least?
And Cameron, your point on comparing with Russel’s penalty is an interesting one. Bottas did NOT overtake Russell. So had Lando backed out of it, Max might indeed very well have been given a 5 second penalty. So both McLaren and Lando himself made some poor decisions in my mind. (Btw, see my previous comment, all this bs is because of the asfalt out the outside of the turn. Do away with that and you have nothing left to talk about😅)
Lando giving the position back to max, “There would have been this thought in the back of max’s mind that this guys a fair guy, I’m not going to do something stupid here”. Peter WHAT have you been watching the past 10 years! There’s not any part of max’s driving record that indicates he would feel less entitled to a position based on how fairly another driver raced him. I would say that if anything max’s history of aggression and relentless defense (Austria flashbacks) would have Lando and McLaren relived that Lando had found a way around verstappen and figured it was better to take a penalty and hope Lando could compensate for it with pure pace. Why would they tell Lando that he was ahead at the apex when he clearly wasn’t? Maybe McLaren didn’t want to deal with the risk of trying to reovertake max. Maybe mclaren didn’t want Lando to take matters into his one hands and figured it was better to tell lando what he needed to hear so he could get his head down and beat max on pace instead of a wheel to wheel battle which likely ends in a collision.
I think Peter knows that as a talking head and needs to say some ridiculous things to feed the algo. Speculating over a drivers mental state given a hypothetical situation is fairly common from this guy. He’s always talking about what this guy or that guy is “thinking” and it’s really what Peter would be thinking if he were a racing driver.
Lando will never win a championship, he can't work out where he should place his car at the first corner of races. To many unforced errors. Of 18 races he’s maintained his position in only 5 of the races and the rest he’s lost places. Watching Lando he doesn’t see the gaps as well as hungry drivers. He overcompensates when trying to defend and makes errors. He usually takes longer than it should to complete overtakes even with a pace advantage. IMO I think Lando is a good driver on the grid when it comes to speed, but i do not rank him close to top 6 when it comes to wheel to wheel. Stats count more than than anything in the ruthlessness of F1.
100% Agree!! Imagine having a car faster by one second a lap, newer tyres and DRS in your favour and yet you have to do a illegal overtake after trying for 5 laps out of pure frustration........ And people wants to call him a WDC???
@@Praise_God369if Lando had not overtaken him of the track the stewards probably would’ve given Max a penalty so Lando was not too clever with that move. And the normal penalty for overtaking off the track is 10 sec. but because they both went off they only gave Lando 5 sec.

Unsure why nobody wants to talk about the “be able to make the corner within the track limits” part of the rule. You can’t blame McLaren for everything, maybe 30%. Lando has given up a pole finish and came in 4th.
And McLaren told Oscar to slow down in the end because if he didn't Lando would of been fifth 👍

Nah, put some respect on George’s name. George is ruthless in W2W/racecraft.
Look at how George battles Max at Spain or Brazil 2022. Or Max at Baku 2023. Or Lando at Spain 2024.
Don’t forget George at Qatar last season or literally George at Belgium or COTA this season.
George is miles better at racecraft than Lando.
@@gameofender4463 He’s better than Norris at fighting from the middle of the pack, but I mean in terms of starting from P1 and finishing in P1. He usually has bad race starts and makes mistakes in the race.
@@ags911George usually has great starts. Whenever he’s started on pole. He’s been great.
Brazil, won. Canada, wasn’t until the conditions changed, and Silverstone he had car issues outside of his control. Compare and contrast with Lando.

In a nutshell, Max is a pitbull and Lando is a labrador.
Good to see Lando upgraded. He was a Chihuahua last year, opening his legs wide every time Max was behind him
No, i think Lando is a Jack Russell 🐕🐕🐕🐕waf waf waf waf waffffff 🤡🤡🤡🤡waf waf waffff🤣
But I like Labradors.
Good points, lot of biased ppl just beat around the bush as they are biased because of a region specificity.
Regarding Landon, pressure bust pipes! What he is experiencing is the pressure of expectations at another level relative to Lewis and Max. That Championship level expectation. At least that's what I think.

Funny bunny 🤣😄🤓 so true
If Lando doesn’t win the championship it’s on him not the team
McLaren’s radio dialogue is always cringe tmi. Lando’s potential 2024 WDC will forever be laughed at.
The way his engineer talks , like he is asking Lando for permission at all times , it's not like at RB or Mercedes were the engineers become firm with the drivers , McLaren also treat their drivers like school kids and not adults

Wasn’t the first battle at that corner this weekend where both cars went off. Difference nobody actually made moves off the track and kept position aside from lap 1 incidents where there is a different rule set for the circumstances. Thank you shark top. Peter is the best eh. I love listening to the wisdom
Peter said ‘Lewis was going to pass Max’ REALLY? Lewis was out of the race on the second lap
Grice's razor. The reference was Lando.
Great discussion! Happy to follow
Or getting a 5 second gap.
for overtaking off the track the penalty normally is 10 sec. but bc they both went off track they only gave him 5 sec. And they didn’t give him any penalty for tracklimits 4x so Lando was lucky to finish 4th!

Realistically speaking there was no valid reason for Sainz to lose the Ferrari seat in terms of performance, that’s a fact.
@@MarangMatlala Lewis Hamilton is better than Carlos Sainz lil bro
At the end of the day, Ferrari can only keep their better driver bc when they has chances to be at the top, they’ve both bottled it.

Track position shouldn’t matter which such long straights in Cota. If it were reversed, max would pass Norris easily
Seems like they genuinely thought Max will get a penalty and asked Oscar to catch him 😂
Curious. Same weekend, Max did mantain his pole but apparently "it's too wide to defend pole".... well except for Max apparently.
The excuses are infinite for Rich Boy Norris. It's his daddy a sponsor at least?
Not just because of McLaren, but also because of himself and his own mess ups
@@Switll72 the only illegal thing was car no1 forcing another driver off track ,breaching the FIA sporting code.
@@Praise_God369if Lando had not overtaken him of the track the stewards probably would’ve given Max a penalty so Lando was not too clever with that move. And the normal penalty for overtaking off the track is 10 sec. but because they both went off they only gave Lando 5 sec.

Nah, he will lose it because of himself. Not Championship material
Unsure why nobody wants to talk about the “be able to make the corner within the track limits” part of the rule. Full props to Max as he’s figured out the stewards don’t care if you can actually make the corner, you just have to be first at the apex. It’’s been clear since 2021 that Max just lets off the brake enough to be first at the apex and has no intention of making the corner. Not a Max bash, just seems really clear to me and the telemetry supports it.
Peter Windsor is a treasure! Phenomenal analysis as always.
Dont agree with Peter Max had Landos number
I'm with you Cameron, I don't think Lando gets passed Max again, if he gives the position back. I just remember Bahrain 21, where everyone thought Max would breeze past Lewis, once he had given the position back to Lewis.
Help me out. What is that "k" sound being used at the end of each word ending with "ng". Did I miss somerhing or has it been like that all the time?
