Huge thank you for checking out our Ultimate Breakdown of the original Star Wars Trilogy. The next big series we're gonna be covering is The Matrix. If you enjoyed this video then please subscribe to the channel ruclips.net/channel/UCq3hT5JPPKy87JGbDls_5BQ
This is just amazing, you really been putting in "Heavy"....work lately. Thanks so much for these, they've picked my spirits up while being down lately. Quick question, during the ESB portion you show a scene of someone eating dinner, & ready what looks like an older movies interpretation of a future newspaper that shows "The World Tonight". What movie is that scene from? It's killing me, thanks!
NO.. it wold be an awesome video if you don't consider the Disney Lesbian parodies as part of Lucas work man.. Is so sad to think that our grand kids are going to think that this Disney trash is actually part of Star Wars....+.... what a piece of shit world man !!.. what a piece of shit world...+..... they did it .. they win.. Star Wars fans are craning...... the characters we love growing up are destroyed.. humiliated.. and replaced by this bunch of shit cunts...+..
I thought r2d2 was named after the synth used for his sounds ,not coz hes second to c3p0.&it wasn't shepperton studios for the OG film,it was Elstree studios, borhamwood UK,there's a George Lucas sound stage there.Shepperton was used in later films.
Have you ever heard the tragedy of Han Solo the blind? He was the Corellian smuggler that lost his sight for exactly the same amount of time his girl was in a metal bikini.
I remember seeing the first movie in the theaters in 1977 at 15 - it was just incredible seeing that opening scene with the star destroyer coming in and how long that moment went. I was just awestruck in my seat. The crowd cheering when the Death Star was destroyed too, it was an amazing experience! The 20th Century Fox intro tune is indelibly linked to Stars for me. Thanks for a great breakdown of the original 3 movies.
Wow. I was old enough to remember the 3rd one (Ret of Jedi). It blew my mind. But living in a world with NONE of this… must have been incredible to behold.
never has just three movies changed cinema as much as Star Wars. From Production to how the plot plays out. Star Wars is a milestone in cinema that has yet to be replicated, even by itself.
My fiance and I are HUGE STAR WARS FANS. I lost her last summer, she passed away from long standing health issues. She would have loved this video as much as I did. I hadn't been able to watch STAR WARS videos since her passing , but decided to watch this. Thank you for the wonderful information I did not know. Keep up the great work. May the force be with us all.
Seeing this in a theater during that opening month was an unparalleled movie-going experience. The main things I remember is the power of that soundtrack when the movie started. It was intense. And of course, all the special effects were and action were amazing, especially the light sabers and Tie-fighters. When the death star exploded, it was so loud I think it blew out some of the low-end speakers in the theater. My final take away was the audience vibe. It was the first movie I had seen where the audience was an active part of the show. Everyone would erupt with laughter, cheers and applause at the appropriate times. For example, People went NUTS when Han Solo and the millennium falcon came back and clipped Vader to save Luke so we could take the final shot. Lastly, it was the very first movie I attended where the entire audience applauded at the end of the movie. Lots of positive energy in those theaters that summer. There is also a contest amongst all our friends to see who could see it the most. One of my friends saw it over 20 times in theater. Definitely the coolest movie theater experience I've ever had. (That's not counting drive-in theater experiences. But those had nothing to do with the movie playing.)
The Empire Strikes Back is and will always be my favorite of the OT because that is one of the few times that my father who is now deceased took me to the the movies and the Luke and Vader characters mirror the relationship that I had with my father love the breakdown of these timeless films!
THX 1138 was the license plate of George's car. A car that he totaled. His seat belt broke and he was thrown from the vehicle, which was a lucky break because the car wound up wrapped around a tree
Fantastic breakdown! I was 7 yo when the first one came out, and regularly rewatch the OG trilogy a couple of times a year. And while I'm no expert, I do consider myself to be fairly well versed in SW trivia. That being said, I learned a ton from this! I constantly found myself being surprised by an interesting tidbit that I'd never heard. This video brought an even deeper appreciation for these films that have been such a huge part of my life, and I didn't think that was possible. Thank you for that!
This was a great video bro! I was born in 1991 so I wasn't alive when did the original Star wars trilogy came out and even though I had seen the movies honestly it was The phantom menace that made me a fan of Star wars! I've went back and re-watched all the films as an adult and I still prefer the prequels over the original!
Just a massive thank you Paul, this had me glued from start to finish. Really appreciate the effort you put in to all your vids but this one is an all time fave already.
Its unfortunate we won't get a Breakdown of the Prequel Trilogy. I love the OT but to me as a kid, whose first Star Wars movie was Ep.1 those are my SW movies, saw all 3 in theaters. Would love a breakdown of them. Still a stellar video though!
I got to see empire in theaters last weekend for may 4th. The Vader scene hit so much harder, especially after the obi Wan series made me love Vader so much more
Luke's Jabba plan makes perfect sense. Han was an officer in the Rebel military, so he was too valuable to be left with Jabba. First, he put Lando, a gambler, in first to gather Intel. Then he put R2 in to get a layout of the palace. Now, if you're going to rescue Han, you can't take a slab of carbonite out, so you have to thaw him out, but Leia knew he would be blind from hibernation sickness. So when they get caught and put Han in the dungeon, who's already there? Chewie. Not only that, but Leia is now by Jabbas side. When Luke comes in, his first attempt wasn't supposed to work, it was to make Jabba feel like he had the upper hand. Finally, once they're outside of the palace, the real plan can happen because Han is now free and can see, Luke has his saber and Leia was able to kill Jabba. SIMPLE
Awesome breakdown. When Vader says "Obiwan has taught you well.", it gives away that Vader and Palpatine were blind to Yoda living on Dagobah, otherwise they would have known it was Yoda that did nearly all of Luke's training. It also shows that years later, Vader's thoughts still dwell on Obiwan.
9:05 ... By the gods! I first saw this opening scene in a cinema back in 1977 with the lasers flashing through a layer of cigarette smoke; and it still gives me goosebumps.
Feel like alot was left out but i heard so many things i never knew so ill take it. Things like Luke Calling Leia "Carrie" at the end of a new hope. Or Lando switching back and forth between wearing and not wearing gloves as he hangs over the sarlaac pit. I swear there was some weird easter egg with chewy reassembling C-3PO in the sky city too.
It's just a little thing, but I love at the end of ESB when the MF jumps, Vader turns to walk away from the window, but before doing so he does one brief look back out the window before walking away. Is he having a SMH moment, silently giving props to Luke for getting away, mumbling under his breath about "how hard it is to get good help these days," or all of the above?
Sometimes I like to watch A New Hope thinking that at one point, this was it. There was no plan for more. There was no EU. This was it. Viewing it under that light, it just makes A New Hope an even more perfect film. Because I know even if NONE of the other media was created, I would STILL be just as obsessed with Star Wars. And to be made almost 50 years ago. It's just insane. It's insane how much of our lives are influenced by this movie.
12:44 - "..part of the costume you might not've noticed before". I thought you were going to point out that the left cheek on Vader's helmet is actually silver (but looks black due to the reflection, just like the effect on C3-PO's leg which you did mention). I'd never noticed the silver cheek and I learned about it in one of Adam Savage's videos where he gets to see and inspect the original prop helmet from '76/'77.
17:54 so the jawas are literally just selling the Lars back their own droid… C-3PO lived on the Lars estate right after he was built… He was the family droid literally built by a member of that family, the father of the boy who was purchasing him right then it truly is a lot to wrap your head around. I guess the most important thing is that Jawas always selling you back your own shit.
Brilliant video again. Very slight note, 51 mins in you say frank oz voiced Kermit. Jim Henson was the voice of Kermit, Oz did piggy, fozzie and a few others.
I’m fairly certain the facial scars Luke has in Empire are NOT from Hamill having a car accident. George said something along the lines of “When you’re in a war for a long time, things like this happen.”
27:40.The Rodians that appear with Jabba are NOT Greedo, but other bodyguards and/or bounty hunters. This was mentioned in aTales of Mos Eisly as well as other novelizations that we're published in 1997 for the Special Editions. It would have been better just to have left out the Jabba appearance as it just repeats the same dialog that Greedo had already mentioned to Han. The 1997 appearance of Jabba was a complete mess, and there had been so many problems with Harrison Ford walking behind the fill-in actor for Jabba that it was difficult to get that scene to work. It just should have been left out saving.the crew time and money as you had mentioned!
Awesome breakdown, Paul knocked it out the park!!! Rewatching ROTJ, this has always “bugged” me, how much force lightening does it takes to “kill” a Jedi. Luke got blasted pretty heavy by Palpatine before Vader saved him?
1:13:27 The soldiers in the picture are Finnish. I don't know if your story is correct, but the men in the picture are not German soldiers, but Finns fighting against Stalin's Soviet Union.
13:35 OK refer to Star Wars episode one the junk shop run by wato As the characters walk in or out look in the background, you will see C-3PO plating on the wall and do you know how I know it is that for sure it is missing that part of the leg so shmi somehow acquired it and either put it on herself or Lars did it. maybe Lars purchased it along with Anakin‘s mother… but it is there in the shop clear as day on the wall next to the door…
That’s not drool coming out of Han’s mouth when he’s frozen in carbonite, that’s his breath, his last pained scream. Note that it’s being blown back from his mouth in his standing position, not dripping out of it from a laying down position.
Just to maybe clear up abit about IG-88. In the expanded universe in Tales of the Bounty Hunters IG's whole story is explained and fits within the movies. He obtains self awareness as soon as he is activated and kills his creators, he then uploads himself into 3 other identical models so they basically share one conciousness and refer to one another as A, B, C, and D. They then make plans to work as bounty hunters which they were built for in the first place, and proceed to get wrapped up in the search for Han and Luke. The one on Ord Mantell was I belive IG-88D, The one on Hoth IG88B, IG88C pursued them via ship and was destroyed. IG88A eventually ended up uploading himself into the 2nd Death Stars main computer and was briefly in control of the whole station upon it being blown up. Thats the jist anyway....its been like 20 years since ive actually read it lol.
1:40:00 I have always felt they should have had Luke put his _Living Left Hand_ on Leia's shoulder and continued to flex the fingers of his unfamiliar _New Mechanical Hand_ that he has _JUST BEEN_ given.
The "kessle run in less than 12 parsecs", in my mind, always spoke to the nature of ftl space travel which, in Star Wars, base on the implications of the line, would be achieved through direct manipulation of spacetime andor'ish better calculating power of the Nava-computer for routing to-near massive bodies for gravity assists (ie the Falcon has some sort of one'off quantum computer that is by happenstance, particularly good, andor'ish the the drive is also "artisanal" and can thus never be guaranteed to be good, better or great at spacetime manipulation). Same with the "light" saber quite obviously be a neutron, anti neutrons container which only Jedi can combine through the force to achieve the phenomenon. You can do the calculations yourself for what sort of energy potential is in 5cubic inches of neutron/antineutrons when force manipulated to annihilate. It isn't small.
If you haven’t already, please watch thumb wars. It’s so funny! And that’s what I think about now when Luke was whining(and you said he got made fun of in the video). There’s a part in thumb wars that makes fun of that. “Harvest, harvest!” 😅😂😂

I came for Ryan Aery’s Mum
(Jokes)
You read the life magazine for all this information didn’t you. I’ve read it about 10 times already 😅

I was ten and saw it in the cinema. Unforgettably awesome experience
I was 6, and I remember my parents had to go see it first to make sure it was OK for a kid. I was hooked from that moment on...
Wow. I was old enough to remember the 3rd one (Ret of Jedi). It blew my mind. But living in a world with NONE of this… must have been incredible to behold.
Totally agree! I was 5 when it came out, so of course my whole life became Star Wars.
I was about 12 when I first saw it. Great movie. I already liked the older 50's and 60's era sci-fi movies and shows
never has just three movies changed cinema as much as Star Wars. From Production to how the plot plays out. Star Wars is a milestone in cinema that has yet to be replicated, even by itself.
It's a great series for many reasons but plot....lol....no
My fiance and I are HUGE STAR WARS FANS.

I hadn't been able to watch STAR WARS videos since her passing , but decided to watch this. Thank you for the wonderful information I did not know. Keep up the great work. So sorry to hear that mate, hope you have lots of happy memories with her and hopefully this video helped bring some of them back
Some of your grammar is wrong.
THANK GOD, a 2 hour video to keep me sane at work
What do you do for work where you can watch a two hour video?? Hahah, hopefully not open-heart surgery or something ... :P
We appreciate the time and work put into these Ultimate videos. These Ultimate breakdowns are better than the movie documentaries out there.
Ey thank you so much

Applauding a film at a cinema - to me that's like applauding a DVD. But you are American...
The Empire Strikes Back is and will always be my favorite of the OT because that is one of the few times that my father who is now deceased took me to the the movies and the Luke and Vader characters mirror the relationship that I had with my father love the breakdown of these timeless films!
That opening scene experienced in a cinema.I cannot think of a more epic opening scene to any film ever
THX 1138 was the license plate of George's car. A car that he totaled. His seat belt broke and he was thrown from the vehicle, which was a lucky break because the car wound up wrapped around a tree
it's about time somebody did a video about Star Wars!
Dropped a like before even starting it.
ETA - didn’t realize I’ve already watched these but still rewatching anyway.
Fantastic breakdown! I was 7 yo when the first one came out, and regularly rewatch the OG trilogy a couple of times a year. And while I'm no expert, I do consider myself to be fairly well versed in SW trivia.

Thank you mate, glad there was still new stuff for people
Man...that star wars opening theme is just so freakin' iconic. I dont even like sci-fi all that much but that tune gets me jazzed up.
“I keep telling my wife size matters not” IM DYING 😂😂😂💀 and this is why you’re my favorite Paul 😂
The hyperdrive failing sound was also in Temple Of Doom when the plane's propellors were shutting down.
This was a great video bro! Just a massive thank you Paul, this had me glued from start to finish. Really appreciate the effort you put in to all your vids but this one is an all time fave already.
Watched & loved your individual breakdowns of these. Now it's a full breakdown like your Dune one, so awesome buddy.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Holy moly! This video breakdown is *EPIC!* 😎
Thank you so much Paul. 🙏🏻
I love the way Vader ignited his saber slowly during the first fight with Luke. It was perfectly ominous.
sweeeet love the long form break downs of classics movies.
Thank you Paul
"Vader's on his a$$ like the neglectful father that he always was..." is Paul's quote of the year!!!
Howaniec
This got me through the slog of the work afternoon! Loved it! Thank you!
Haha thank you
Bro you hit me with that Jedi mind trick 1:58:14 lmao
I did hit the like button afterwards ngl

Appreciate the breakdowns Paul keep up the amazing work
Just finished the Mad Max vid and you drop this behemoth. Let’s go.
That vision of him looking out over the dual suns happened to be the first non-clothing related piece of marketing. It was a puzzle and I loved it.❤
Saying "Han shot first" is wrong. Originally Greedo never fired at all, so it's just "Han shot, Greedo died."
1:56:54 I've seen this movie a million times and never noticed this. Nice catch Paul.
Thank you
Paul put in some work for this one!
Thanks for the video
Great breakdown! Just subscribed so I don’t miss the breakdown of the prequel trilogy!
Very enjoyable - I learned a lot of new things about these old favorites!
1:22:17 this always bugged me because obi won knew about Leia from birth so shouldn’t he know that she was alive and a potential Jedi?
In my opinion, one of the best trilogies ever made. Also, the best breakdown I've seen thus far 😊
Ey thank you
I always hit the like button. Thanks for being my best mate!!!!
Wilhelm scream was used in 100s of movies starting in 1953......of course one of the most famous being star wars
Yes!! Lets go. Gonna get in to this when i get home. Just come to leave my comment and say.....
Big ups Def.💯👊🏾
Thanks for this long and detailed look at one of my favourite wonderful trilogies.
This was just great. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars saw the first movie when I was 6 in the theaters!!
9:05 ... By the gods! I first saw this opening scene in a cinema back in 1977 with the lasers flashing through a layer of cigarette smoke; and it still gives me goosebumps.

Fun fact, the sound at 1:14:34 is also the AT-AT gun sound.
Awesome Vid!
Thank You very much for Your Work! Greetings from Germany
You’re a king for this video! What a watch
Well today my insomnia and I learned
Paul, Thank you for these breakdowns. Empire is my favorite movie of all time. OT is the best trilogy of all time. I love this trilogy!
Much appreciated
2:00:06 Pretty sure it's the "Spartan" helmet. The badass helmet & armor designs alone added a great portion of Star Wars' popularity.
Looooool can’t knock the hustle
Brilliant video again. Very slight note, 51 mins in you say frank oz voiced Kermit. Jim Henson was the voice of Kermit, Oz did piggy, fozzie and a few others.
this is awesome thank you so much for this episode, respect
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazing, thank you!
Kudos for using a clip from the comedy classic Used Cars!
Great and fun video as always, Paul!
I’m fairly certain the facial scars Luke has in Empire are NOT from Hamill having a car accident. George said something along the lines of “When you’re in a war for a long time, things like this happen.”
Great work mate, top breakdown
Thank you
Impressive...Most impressive
I can't watch this rn but I promise I'll get to it soon. Thanks Paul!
27:40.The Rodians that appear with Jabba are NOT Greedo, but other bodyguards and/or bounty hunters. The Han Solo draft at 6:51?
That's Kyle Katarn. 😂
Amazing Depth!!! Killer breakdown.
2 and a half hour video. Its my day off, I have no plans. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Oh wow I actually did learn something ??!!!!! I have no idea that that was actually a skull I had no clue
Awesome breakdown, Paul knocked it out the park!!! Rewatching ROTJ, this has always “bugged” me, how much force lightening does it takes to “kill” a Jedi. Luke got blasted pretty heavy by Palpatine before Vader saved him?
Paul, IT'S ALL CONNECTED!!!
The updated Darth Vader and Emperor scene in episode five is so much better and cleaner dialogue wise than the original I think
It is. But the “noooooo” in Jedi more than cancels that out
I wish you’d have mentioned when Luke came down the ladder after blowing up the Death Star he says “Carrie!” When he sees Leia 🤣
Did they never change that in the re-releases?
@@carmawarlock8455 which rerelease 🤣
At mark 43:00, he says that the 2nd movie was written by Hurley from the tv show LOST. Did I hear that right?
Otherwise, great breakdown! Really loved the behind the scenes trivia about these awesome movies.
1:13:27 The soldiers in the picture are Finnish. I don't know if your story is correct, but the men in the picture are not German soldiers, but Finns fighting against Stalin's Soviet Union.
13:35 OK refer to Star Wars episode one the junk shop run by wato
As the characters walk in or out look in the background, you will see C-3PO plating on the wall and do you know how I know it is that for sure it is missing that part of the leg so shmi somehow acquired it and either put it on herself or Lars did it. maybe Lars purchased it along with Anakin‘s mother… but it is there in the shop clear as day on the wall next to the door…
This is a masterpiece worthy of the OT. Bravo 👏
Thank you
The first film of the trilogy that I've seen was the Empire strikes back. I've watched it so many times I cannot count them.
That’s not drool coming out of Han’s mouth when he’s frozen in carbonite, that’s his breath, his last pained scream. Note that it’s being blown back from his mouth in his standing position, not dripping out of it from a laying down position.
Love this!!! THANKS for this!!!!!
Nice work💚🇬🇧🌱
Dude lets GOOOO!! Thanks Definition! (Deep cut I know)
Haha deep cut
At 1hour 7mins you said he chokes Krennic, but it's Admiral Motti. Great vid. Thanks

1:40:00 I have always felt they should have had Luke put his _Living Left Hand_ on Leia's shoulder and continued to flex the fingers of his unfamiliar _New Mechanical Hand_ that he has _JUST BEEN_ given.
SMASHING the like button
18:30 in the BBC Radio production and (I think) the book it is stated that R2D2 sabotaged the R5 in order to get away from the Jawas.
excellent video 😀😀😀😀
Thank you
brother a 2:29:07 break down is the most beautiful thing I could ask for thank you
Utterly superb.

RR (ZZ) on the X Wing was probably a throwback to Rolls Royce engines on WWII fighter planes.

So... are we gonna get one of these for the Prequels? Cuz I would love that ngl
Please do a breakdown on Vanilla Sky you guys would kill it!
If you haven’t already, please watch thumb wars. It’s so funny! And that’s what I think about now when Luke was whining(and you said he got made fun of in the video). There’s a part in thumb wars that makes fun of that. “Harvest, harvest!” 😅😂😂
