these things make a huge difference for filming interviews in an office where you cant turn off overhead lights and you have a lot of windows. stops random hot spots and glares all over peoples faces/heads.
I was legit about to comment to ask how you can use negative fill outdoors, and just before typing the video came to that part explaining exactly what I wanted to know. You always know what's good Brady. Always on point.
Why this channel doesnt have 1millions of subscribers? Why Pro DP only have Low subscribers rather than thos Content Creators Pirated the knowledge of other Pro DP and Copy it and Record it and Upload it on RUclips? This Channel I Love so Much.
The most useful breakdown of this topic I have seen. I also appreciate how the second camera includes the complete setup in the frame (first camera, boom, floppy) so we can see exactly what is happening. The outdoor side-by-side demo is especially useful as I haven't had to do any serious outdoor shoot yet and want to learn how to exercise some control over intense natural lighting. Myself, for fill I am having to kill two birds with one stone at the moment: I just have these nice (if somewhat unwieldy) sound blankets that happen to be black on one side and white on the other, so they can do fill duties while helping me control sound.
great video, altho inside the house the difference was minimal, I can definetly see how I could use one for my videos. my walls are white and bounce too much light so i might try to use a black sheet as negative fill and see how it changes my shots. an suggestion, I would wanna see different ways of using negative fill, you only seem to use from one side of the face but i've seen a photographer using 2 one on each side with a beauty light to create very hollow cheeks on the talent and have a super defined jawline
Thanks for showing this! I lately thought a lot about lighting that is as low to no budget as possible for exterior shots and honestly was sceptical that negative fill would do anything in an outdoor scenario, but it obviously does as you have greatly demonstrated. So thanks again for that! How would you see the effectiveness in a totally overcast or even foggy scenario? Would it still have an effect sinse light is so extremely diffused?
Hi Brady! Awsome video!! Thank you! I am wondering where I could buy it and which size, can you help me? Is it foldable? How do you transport it? Thank you very much
Hey Brady, amazing stuff mate! I’ve been searching for that floppy and the stands but I just can’t find them. Do mind sharing the link where to buy them? Thanks 🙏🏻
Neg fill is really useful thing. Lately I've created one from styrofoam my package been wrapped into - just saved it from trashing :). Just painted it black (it's somewhere on my channel ;)).
Great explanation, thanks. How would you approach placing the negative fill for wider shots without being visible in frame? Do you use it mainly for close-ups?
Wow! Good idea to use neg outdoor! Looks a lot better with it. Anyway, quick question, aside from the Black Pro Mist, what other lens filters are you using on your shots?
It looks good outdoors but the first shot actually is pretty contrasty/shadowy enough already without the negative fill. I don't see that much of a difference to put the negative fill at all. Saying that though, I think the first example is a great example of single source lighting!
The comparisons look like you’ve adjusted the shot in favor of the negative. Like why is the window getting darker along with your face in the comparison?
I like how it looks and appreciate the video as a reminder for the look. Yet, you did not mention any guiding principles when to use it and when not to do so. And ccertainly, there are situations when it woul dnot be appropriate. So, at the end I found that you explained that it is important because it looks nice, not because there is a specific reason. Maybe I missed it? Would be nice if there was a bit more detail about that. Anyway, still a great video!
I see you've got some film grain again and I tried to figure out why I can't seem to tell the difference between noise and grain anymore and why I thought the last episode was noisy, appose to grainy, then I noticed, the blacks are clipping. I think that gave me the "noisy" impression. But there's not much you can do about it because it's probably due to RUclips compressing the living S**T out of it, lol!
Lol I feel that, With digital at least, you seem to see an “ugliness” to noise, and also colored artifacts when more prominent. I know RUclips compresses like crazy, cause according to my waveforms when coloring, no clipping happened lol so blame RUclips. None the less, thank you for keeping up with the videos!
Man I love your videos! My favorite thing in the beginning was the serene music playing in the background that's the same in all the episodes. ALSO, the glow in the text of the thumbnails really catches the eye (I tried to copy that with my first ever "No Budget Cinema" video but later I got lazy and just dumped regular text over haha). Oh yes, and obviously I love the content on the channel! I am looking forward to the project you and Sara are working on!

Hi. Which key light are you using in the video. Not sure it was on the list? It has a honeycomb diffuser I think. Thanks.

Hey Brady, amazing stuff mate! I’ve been searching for that floppy and the stands but I just can’t find them. Do mind sharing the link where to buy them? Thanks 🙏🏻
I found it on BH photo website! 40" matthews floppy!
Please can I ask what stand / attachment you used? Looking for an affordable one online now
What is the rig that you use to support H4nPro above your camera? 4:48
It’s literally a mic stand from guitar center! It gets the job done
@@BradyBessette I wasn't talking about the tripod that supports your shotgun, but the thing on top of your camera that has the H4nPro
My h4n was on the ground , maybe that’s the monitor?
negative fill works the best on an overcast day
Super true, I love the result it gives
May I ask you, that footage you shot on bmpcc4k? Very good. And what lens?
Yes on BMPCC4k! And 18-35 lens and 35mn sigma 1.4

Neg fill is really useful thing. Lately I've created one from styrofoam my package been wrapped into - just saved it from trashing :). Just painted it black (it's somewhere on my channel ;)).
Honestly that’s so creative I love the DIY

Great explanation, thanks. How would you approach placing the negative fill for wider shots without being visible in frame? Do you use it mainly for close-ups?
Unfortunately it gets harder, either bigger source of neg or you just have to frame your shot accordingly I’d say
Amazinnnnnnnnngggggggggggg!
Thank you!!!!
Wow! Good idea to use neg outdoor! Looks a lot better with it.
Anyway, quick question, aside from the Black Pro Mist, what other lens filters are you using on your shots?
Just BPM actually!
Great tips 🔥
Thank you!
Love these insights! I might be totally wrong but what level of Pro Mist are you using for these?
1/4 on the close shot and 1/8 on the wide!

The comparisons look like you’ve adjusted the shot in favor of the negative. Like why is the window getting darker along with your face in the comparison?
I used the same grade, the sun was going in and out of clouds on this day, probably that!
