Are Timex Raising Their Game - Q Timex 1979

- Timex have been around since 1854, they are a well loved brand and are a first stop for many looking to buy their first watch.
During the quartz crisis of the 1970s they decided to move away from mechanical movements and invest in quartz technology.
The original Q Timex was the baby of this new modern age, 40 years later in an age where people are returning to mechanical watches, they've decided to re-issue a quartz.... Was this a good idea ?
This is a review of the Q Timex, is it worth its relatively high price tag. Are you a fan of the watch, or a hater, be sure to let me know in the comments.
I'm a dark chocolate fan so please excuse my Faux Pas when I say Black magic, I obviously meant Milk Tray. My late Mam will never forgive me, they were her favorite, as was the milk tray man.

The band is my favorite and most throwback part. It reminds me of my dad!
Thank you for the review.
I don't understand why people complain about it being overpriced. Every single new batch is sold out in a few days, if not less. Take it or leave it.
This isn't a flaw, it's a brilliant and very good reading of the market. Imagine you sell your product faster than you can produce it and someone tells you you are mad with your prices.
You'd laugh, wouldn't you?
I wish I had an over priced sell out product
I don’t remember this in 1979 as I was 9 yrs old and couldn’t care less about watches! Lol . But I fell in love with this model when it was released in over 4 yrs ago and couldn’t justify the price at that time, but found this new in box today at tjmax for $79.00 so I bought it and I’m love this watch even it’s contradictions!
I like what they are doing lately. The Q plus Timex Snoopy X space with a red wing leather band and the Merlin. I know we are not talking about high horology but it's nice to see affordable Timex getting some love.
Vin's World I agree, still waiting on a snoopy marlin
I think the Q release is great. This has opened me up to purchasing more FUN watches. I see more Timex watches in my future!
D C Clever Timex
Worth every cent I paid for it on eBay. This is a throw back to my childhood memories.. :)
"Worth every cent I paid for it on eBay." you mean worth 8$ for that shitty mov, right? because if you payed more than 50$ for this, your whole collection must be DWs.
I like the timeless design of it. Looks better than most of today's watch designs.
It's been a grey start to the week in Scotland, this has been a welcome splash of colour on my wrist
Just ordered one brand new for £85. Couldn’t get my hands on it a few years ago but thought it was finally worth a search.
Where did you find it
@@LastWatch possibly End Clothing. They have a few with 45% - 50% off.
@@LastWatch End clothing had a few with discount. Arrived next day
People are complaining about its overpriced, but no one is pushing to buy the watch either, right. If its too expensive dont buy it, simple. I personaly just like it so Im gonna buy it.
Good luck with the next round
Found a used one and talked it down to 70.Pretty neat watch
I got it yesterday after the hype died down. I was concerned about the quality due to complaints around the internet. I must have gotten lucky with my unit. My watch has the seconds hand hitting every marker. It's incredibly light. The bezel is really good to operate. My Orient Mako II bezel is a pain in the ass to use compared to this. I have no problems with the movement. My only complaint is the bracelet. It's not flexible enough for me. Luckily, I swapped it with the Casio A168W bracelet and it is MUCH more comfortable and looks like vintage Rolex GMT Masters. I was genuinely surprised that my unit was built very well so I can justify the $179 price tag
This has a lot of charm and a rich history. Like it or not, this is an important watch from Timex. I'm glad that they are embracing their heritage and staying true to their values. I'm an American, so Timex has a lot of sentimental value. That's just something that sets it apart. Even though it is an affordable watch, the cool factor is sky high. If you get a good unit, it's an amazing affordable GMT styled watch
I really enjoy this watch, so much in fact that I’ll be looking to pick up one of the new GMT versions… once the hype has subsided
Like the Tudor 58 brother. I think they’ve upped their game. It’s great to see the oldies come back to the future! No pun intended.
Joe T. Plumber everyone loves a classic
Overpriced but stock is running out everywhere! Watch collecting is not about value anyway, most of the watches will be overpriced. Does this watch spark joy and desire!? Hell yes! Just placed my order via 3rd party retailer last night. Hopefully it gets confirmed soon. Sigh.
If it brings you joy then its worth every penny, don't pay over the odds and enjoy it when it turns up
I own this watch and can say this: It is a great looking piece of junk. Nothing about it feels quality but I love how it looks.
Its a strange one
Love the way you describe the watch brother. You’ve come a long way. Reason why you’re one of my favorite watch reviewers. 👍🏽
Joe T. Plumber Cheers Joe, thanks for sticking with the channel
I love my Q Timex. I own the Plain Coke and the Pepsi with Snoopy at the number 6 on the dial. They are my go to watch.
I absolutely love it. The problem is when it finally was back in stock it sold out again within 24-hours so it looks like I’m waiting for the next batch again! 😖
luckyrocks1 hopefully not long
I happened to come across one today in New Jersey, it seems they’re being sold at retailers now, haven’t seen it anywhere else though. Couldn’t help myself, really enjoying it, although it is well below my usual range
Amazing timepiece, the only complaint is the price. Thirty dollars less, and it would be a great deal. But, I still bought it, and have zero complaints.
Timex have a regular sale, not uncommon to get one of these at a 30% discount
Looking forward to the Q Timex GMT 👍
Good luck getting one, out of stock on their website
Bought both this and the Falcon Eye from Timex website. Love them both! Also love my 38mm Navi Harbor (I have the exact same one you have).
I also own more Timex than ang brand by far. Probably more than half of my approximately 40 watch collection.
My collection ranges from several inexpensive Timex pieces all the way up to a few hand made really special pieces (one of which is one of only three ever made). And then some really nice medium priced pieces from all over the world (USA, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Italy, Russia)
But of course I find myself grabbing a Timex more often than any!
Great review thanks!👍
Did you get the M74
@@LastWatch Hi, no I don't have that one but I do like it. My next purchase will be a modern diver from Cincinnati Watch Company coming out in June I believe. Then I really need to slow down but I've said that many times over the past year. Haha😏😉
SPG 565 I looked at Cincinnati but I’d get clobbered on import
@@LastWatch understood
"All the interest it's garnished"... I think you meant 'garnered'! 😂😉
Seriously though, I think this watch is a beaut, I recently added it to my collection and it's definitely a keeper.
Kit Houghton Oh I don’t know, maybe it would look good with a bit of salad... it’s definitely a keeper
@@LastWatch 👍🏼
Excellent review, thank you!
Great review, I also have a Q Timex and it is a good watch. Like you, I also tried to contact Timex here in the U.S. but they don't seem to answer emails much. Anyway, the bezel is a dual time type, so you can set it to follow another time zone, but not like a GMT. The second-hand issue seems to be something that all of the Timex quartz watches suffer from. However, you could take the watch to a watch repair shop and have them align it for you. Again, nice review and keep up the great work!
Many Thanks, the Timex second hand is something we have to live with
@@LastWatch Welcome and sadly is true about the second hand. I really don't care much for it, as long the watch is correct when I look at the time. Have a great Holiday season!
I have always liked Timex quartz watches because they were cheap and had Lumibrite.
I like the Marlin Reissue because it has the Seagull St6 movement which has been around for a long time.
People are Q ING up to buy both the Marlin Reissue and this one.
Acrylic chrystals but the way are easy to polish out if they get scratched. A tube of Polywatch and a cloth plus some elbow grease.
neil piper I like what you did their “Q ing” wish I’d thought of that
It's a cool looking watch really all that matter's plus decent quality an regardless of the marketing the watch was a success.
Mark Phillips This was always going to sell regardless
I prefer this version of a GMT watch as it makes reading GMT so much easier and instantaneous compared to a Rolex GMT Master II and its homages. I'm sure everybody knows how to set a 12 hour bezel to the hour indices to provide GMT reading by now. Hence the GMT hand has been made superfluous. Loved the review.
Its a great fun watch, even more so if you wait for it to be on a regular sale
I've got time. Sorry, I couldn't help that🙊🙊
The tick has to line up or I can't keep it.
If it was a sweeping hand you'd never know
True. Unless it costs $30.
Nice review. I appreciate the nostalgia of it, but I’m 51 and me, and my dad owned a Timex way back when. What older American didn’t? Thanks for your thoughtful review.
watches are all about memories, or at least they should be
I bought one from Timex and mine functions well and I actually worse it yesterday. It's a bit overpriced but hell it's cool.
I wonder how much buzz there would be around this watch if it wasn't for the limited availability. It looks so cheap to me, I wouldn't buy this at half the price. I realise it's subjective though!
That doesn't take away from you video though, thanks for the great content.
Thanks Fraser, much appreciated
Great review! I actually thought Mr Q was pretty cool, haha
The Lume Room I bet you were a Timothy Dalton fan
@@LastWatch HAHAHA, touché my friend
The Lume Room actually, I was a Dalton fan
I haven’t made up my mind about this watch. I like how it looks and I appreciate the history but I don’t think I’m all in considering the price point! I like the looks but I don’t get how the Pepsi bezel is laid out. All in all I like it but it’s just the price I’ll wait and see if it drops some!
brian buchert if it ever goes on general release then you could wait for their 15% discount, you might have to wait a while tho
Last Watch it’s probably a good thing that I have to wait as I just convinced the wife to agree to me ordering 2 watches which haven’t arrived yet. So I have plenty of time to wait!! Lol
brian buchert Which watches do you have coming
Last Watch I have a citizen perpetual calendar atomic time and a Vostok scuba dude
A goatskin glossed signature black watch strap...an all brushed finish...quartz written in script...rotating uni-directional 120 click bezel and threaded crown with a hard lex mineral crystal... $169.99. Would have sold a lot more of them.
They can barely keep up with demand already
Well that’s subjective...marketing 101. Manufacture 30,000 pieces...market & advertise...gauge the demand and then release 8,000. Wait two months or so...blogs and articles write about it being “sold out”...the Internet comes alive with commentary and then replenish the stock....repeat and then repeat again.
Where have we seen this? Sneaker community and dare I say: Rolex.
It could be cheaper, let’s say priced at $159 US would be more like it. However. It is a hit. Look for more hits by the brand in the future.
There is a premium on this watch, I am reliably informed that there is more to come
Great review! Mine had the same damn hand setting issue too! I've also got an issue with the silver paint on the grip of the bezel, mines missing silver on the top teeth of the circumference, makes the grip look like a saw blade in that area. I've contacted them about it and still waiting for a response. I believe they only offer refunds and no exchanges so I'm pretty sure I have to deal wit it if I want to own one of these watches.
Good luck, let me know how you get on
Raising their game? No. Raising their prices? Yes.
The 2 come hand in hand
I have the Timex 40mm chronograph - came on a supple gorgeous brown leather strap ... love it and inexpensive... but I do get the quality control issue ... the 10th of a second timer on the chronograph doesn't set to 0.
Lets hope the Timex issues don't follow thru with this
I don’t care what all of the critics say, this is a damn fine $40 watch.
And a wee mark up
hi, ive just came across your channel . Im afraid this watch would drive me mad due to the fact that the second hand does not line up with the markers eeek .
Just pretend its a sweeping hand
If quartz is such a dirty word now why are Casio the biggest boys in the game? Good review and the battery hatch is superb thinking? Cheers.
I love my mechanical watches but quartz have their place, I'm wearing a G-Shock as I type
@@LastWatch Cheers ,I am mechanical full stop but watches were a pain .Quartz not glamorous but a good one does what it says on the tin.Casio are without doubt masters at what they do? Casual, cool and keep good time? Cheers northern lad.
Great review! I've always (well, not really always, maybe for the last couple of years hehe) wanted to get me a pepsi/coke bezel watch. Something like Tudor is a bit expensive for me at the moment, so I actually consider buying Q Timex this weekend. I haven't decided if I should get a black/coke or a white/coke version, gotta see it on my wrist first. PS: I'm not a native English speaking person, your accent (on some words) sounds interesting, where is that accent from? Sorry if that's a dumb question.
There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers. I am originally from the North East of England, some would consider me a Geordie (resident of Newcastle) but I grew up in Northumberland. I moved away many years ago and my accent has become much softer, if not my channel would need subtitles.
@@LastWatch thanks for your answer and for showing how to adjust the strap (why didn't they include it in the manual though?). I understand you perfectly without any subtitles. :D Yesterday I bought the white dial/pepsi bezel version for ~$125 new, which is a more reasonable price for it in my opinion. I gotta say I absolutely love the appearance of it, it'd look great with summer clothes like a white t-shirt or polo or with something like a denim shirt. The black/green bezel version looks great in the real life too, that's the proper green tone for it. It didn't have that discount, but I'm happy with what I got.
Citizen’s BM8180-03E is eco-drive, 100m, and half the price.
Also, my 37mm Fairfield cost £24 but, incredibly, she’s running only one second per month slow.
The nostalgia hook of the Q is so obvious and shameless that I won’t bite.
I just checked the Citizen out... that would come under the Military Inspired tag
Last Watch
Yes, although mine’s on a 1980s metal bracelet which smartens it up. It’s the specs per £ which makes me look askance at the Q.
🤔I never considered it a desk diver, I thought Timex reissued it to get in the bandwagon of the sport's integrated bracelet fad is on board lately making IN style again the AP Royal Oak, the and just like Chopard and Bell and Ross... Only in the entry level part...
Timex are coming out with some lovely little watches, I'm sure their will be more Q type watches to come.
So Timex are raising their game...I imagine Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet are crapping themselves with fear now...
I should imagine so, they have the same supply and demand issues as well
I like it , but 160 quid for a quartz Timex feels wrong..
30 years ago we wore Timex watches to school..
there are school kids paying £100 for a pair of trainers and getting the time from their mobiles, how times have changed
@@LastWatch i am still spending £100s on trainers lol just matched with a bunch of seikos lol
What's the name of the time explorer?
Jacek Siemieniuk it’s the Timex Waterbury 40, I did a review on it some time back
@@LastWatch thank you for your reply, very nice piece I am gonna watch the review
I feel as though it is overpriced.
Gary A. LaFalce Sr. Most watches are overpriced
Last Watch I can think of a few others that beat this out for the price.
Gary A. LaFalce Sr. My Citizen Promaster beats it in every respect but looks
Last Watch actually I like the looks of the Promaster over the Timex, but I understand that's personal.
Gary A. LaFalce Sr. My promaster is a work beater and gets more wrist time than most
i want a timex t80 but they dont ship to australia
That is a real throw back to the 80s, do you not know anyone that can send you one
I have one and I am quite disappointed, it's about twice as expensive as it should be. Bracelet is a little hair pulling bastard and the movement feels flimsy when setting it, just trying to get the minute hand lined up is a nightmare.
There's some definite wobble on the hands
Buy it yes or no ??
A definite YES and now you have colour choices
Hit.
Great watch. 👍🏻
Did you get one yet
Yes had mine for a time , find it a great watch for the money , i think it good value and well made
I have sent timex an email asking about this model as I wish to buy one, they have failed to reply
Disappointing from Timex
It is customer service it very important, if you ignore your customer base eventually it will harm your company
Hi
Just to let you know. I made a comment about bad customer service, I wish to reverse this.
I had left my contact mail for a Q timex. On the 30th Oct. last week, I received an Email saying the Q. Was back in stock. Within an hour off receiving this I went online and tried to purchase it. I could not gain access to the correct page. I got a comment about the page being lost.
Spending another 20 mins trying different settings and web access I still could not access the page.
I then phoned the customer service dept I was told that the watch had been sold out again. As some customers had purchased more than a fair share making it impossible for a genuine customer to buy a single watch. I told them that I was very disappointed as I am a simple collector and if possible could I pay for one in advance and I am prepared to wait until the next issue I was told this was not possible and I can on buy though the web site access. So I thanked the member off staff as they were very helpful and left it at that. About an hour later I received a phone call from timex saying they had found me a watch if I wished to purchase it. I received it special delivery yesterday the 1st November.
Thank you Timex customer service, and a very special thank you to the fabulous girl that did all the background work on my behalf you have made me very happy. To the Timex management your staff who looked after me are excellent and you should be proud that you have people who do it right. I will be a returning customer. Thank you again
Robert Mcclay that’s great news, when I was having issues purchasing online, the Timex Instagram account said that they would source a watch if need be. I wonder if we can get a similar response from Rolex
Now that would be good, I’m going to see my local AD next week as I have to pick up a watch I’ve had in for a service. I will ask for an update on stock. I’m on awaiting list for a BB58 on a bracelet, they did offer me one on leather about 6 weeks ago at retail plus 600 odd extra for a replacement bracelet I turned it down
Quartz Revolution not (crisis)
Michael Green It was a crisis for those companies that dug their heels in and the thousands that were made unemployed
Great looking watch but £50-£60 over priced..
Certainly worth signing up for their discount
I think Mr. Q is HOT!!
I hate any watch with hands… Electronic watches are more convenient, functional and practical. Therefore, I expect in the future more reviews of electronic watches.
Noted.... my G-Shock video has proved very popular, it will not be my last digital
I approve of the accuracy of the re-issue. Shame the watch itself is fugly.
Harsh words, I'm surprised how attractive this watch is, just a shame its not tougher
@@LastWatch Fair play, I kind of get it, but always preferred round bezels with small strap lugs, eg a perfect circle, as much as possible. I did love the digital style in the 80s when I was a teen but now, not so much. I'm glad you like it, I was a little harsh!
make it an automatic like the marlin or hand-wind even, then i would jump.
This with an automatic would fly
I love the style of vintage seventies watches and have quite a few of them so I can see the appeal of this reissue but I still think that very thin bracelet looks cheap and nasty. It would be interesting to see how it looks on a decent leather strap.
paul smith The bracelet is way better than I expected, you should check out insta for pix of this on different straps
Last Watch I’ve seen a picture of it on a blue canvas strap with white stitching which looked good, I suppose you could describe the colour as ‘denim’ which kinda fits the seventies look.
That watch strap - every middle-aged wanna-be hip dude who drove a Sedan DeVille and drank Tom Collins wore a watch on this style strap. This is pure seventies bling that finally looks good!
My working class hero.!
Milk Tray
Doh, My brain knew that but my mouth didnt, I think its because I prefer dark chocolate. I'll see if there's a quick fix... many thanks
Far too expensive for what it is.
man i wish this was mechanical
Hugo HOM That would be great
Great video. I'll pass on the watch though. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's worth reproducing. That's a $50 Chinese watch.
they're doing well then
To expensive, to me , overpriced for the quality, just my opinion for a quartz, will wait however long it takes to go right down to about 70 quid ,, that’s the most I’d pay , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
I think the price will remain high whilst they drip feed them into the market place
I am carrying out numerous investigations involving wristwatch related RUclipsrs and you Mr Last 'Big Brother Narrator Voice' Watch have been brought to my attention by an informant who shall remain nameless. She alleges you want your channel to fail because you're not prepared to buy a nice watch to review and thus will never increase your subs, is this true Sir?
I am scratching my head here, are you suggesting I don't buy nice watches and how did you know I was a Sir !
why aye man
Bonnie Lad
Looks ok, but I still wouldn’t pay that much for a quartz watch, even if it is a Timex.
How much would you pay... there are some great quartz watches out there costing more than this
I’m mostly into mechanical watches and clocks. I’ve seen too many fashion watches that all use the same cheap movement which just seems to make the watches from big names that much cheaper. Unless they are using a different method to keep time (Accutrons fork, induction charging a capacitor, solar, or even the old Swissonic battery to inductive timing) they are all the same. Yes, I know, quartz keeps better time than mechanical watches do but do you really want a watch with a $0.50 movement? The quartz technology is getting old and has been proven to be a cheap and easy way to make accurate timepieces, cheap and easy doesn’t exactly make me want to take out a loan to buy that watch. Would you buy a Lamborghini that had a Yugo drivetrain? I’m old school, I like to see things moving, give me cogs and gears and clicks and springs. Leave the quartz to the digital watch group which view it as “old school”, I’ll keep winding.
Michael-John Mushill I nearly made the kit car analogy. The Seiko movement in this cost around $8, they could have put an NH35 in this and kept the watch under $200 but they were keeping to the original aesthetic
I guess that my main problem with the Timex is that at first glance it looks like every other dive watch. Like it’s the scrawny kid trying to fit in with the cool kids. Most of my watches are utilitarian pieces, I like having the ones that people actually carried and used, not the ones that sat at the back of a sock drawer and only got worn three or four times for fear of scratching or breaking them. I guess I’m just weird like that.
I love the look but it's incredibly overpriced
All watches are overpriced
Overpriced!!!!! No Rolex sports that’s overpriced
Considerably so
Overhyped and overpriced. The Navi should have gotten more coverage if anything...the Marlin and Documents release was nice...what watch enthusiasts fail to understand is there are folks who love vintage! This is a cool retro piece. But doesn’t meet the mark as far as quality.
It plays a fine line
It kicks Seiko’s 009 in the Buti Hole even though it’s a Quartz!!!!!
Joe T. Plumber strong words
