  • It’s a rainy day on our off-grid desert homestead so we thought it would be fun for us to spend the day together in our tiny Airstream kitchen. We’ll prep food for the week and talk about what we love and what we hate about our tiny kitchen, as well as share our dreams for our not so tiny kitchen in our future family home.

LADY I WISH I HAD 1/10 OF YOUR ENERGY. I'M 67 AND HAVE 2 YOUNGER SISTERS. ONE OF THEM IS JUST LIKE YOU, SHE WAKES UP IN THE MORNING AND STARTS WORKING. SHE WORKS ALL DAY AND THEN SHE TAKES A SHOWER AND GOES TO BED. RINSE AND REPEAT AD INFINITUM. I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED HER AND I ADMIRE YOU. YOU BOTH ARE SUPERWOMEN. I ALSO LOVE YOUR STORIES AND ALL YOUR VIDEOS.

good morning the family. it's 07H30, north of Lille, France. As French farmers protest on the highways about the lack of protection of their worth in the community, low prices and governmental restrictions, how refreshing it is to find myself in your tiny kitchen with a truly Shiny and Talented family. Over the years, that i've watched your channel, I've come to appreciate the hard work it is to feed a family of six in your tiny space. and yet, you all do it with kindness and love. Enjoy these moments of 'floured' chaos and 'buttery smiles,' because one day, you all will be in the big kitchen, in the new house and not with your kids, but your grandkids, laughing with white flour floating in air. many thanks for the vidéo.

You all are building your freakin house from literally the ground up. 😃 All the while making videos to share with us and taking care of your homestead and family. Don't even know how you managed for the group in the workshop! Home baked bread every day and noodles from scratch...would you adopt me?😂 And yes, I agree with another viewer that teaching the boys to cook is super important. You are a homestead!! You don’t need to have beef cows right now to be completely self sustainable. You choose to eat ground beef and steak to keep some healthy red meat in your diet. You will get there. Someday you’ll raise a beef cow and maybe a milk cow. You all seem to love goats milk & cheese though, so maybe not. Probably will depend on the price of feed. You are an absolutely amazing woman and someone people aspire to emulate!! You’re so good at everything you do & try! I’m constantly in awe of you!! Besides, all these things will be easier in a house. You could make pasta for 4 or 6 meals at once. Same with all the others, but rice. What was the other thing you use half of instead of flour in your bread? I couldn’t catch it to Google it. Tons of love from Oregon for the whole amazing family!! ♥️ Jess

This might have been mentioned already but another good use for your instant pot is hard cooking eggs. You can put as many eggs as you want in the pot with the trivet on the bottom. Add about half a cup of water. Set the pot on the regular setting for 4 to 6 min and start. When temp is reached, cool pot for equal time. Open the steam vent and remove the eggs to ice water. Sometimes I peel for storage and sometimes I don’t peel. Either way, they’re perfect. Love watching your progress on the house. 😊

Ohhhh, I'm sensing at some point there is going to be a Tiny Shiny Outdoor Kitchen. You could make it to where solar panels are on the roof so you can even use it in rainy weather. You can do a "fogon" style stove. Easy peasy (well, compared to the house build). Put it near one of your rain collections where you can do dishes and get water for cooking.

One of my favorite memories of my sister is of us making noodles. We would surprise my mom with them when she got home from work. Momma loved that. It meant she wouldn't have to cook. My sister was 9 years older than me. My earliest memory of this I had not started school yet, so I was 4 or younger.
I have since started making flavored noodles to go with chicken or turkey. I put a bit of sage in it.

In an effort to be more awesome I’ve been trying to fit more baking into my life.
Your bread method makes total sense to me. I’ve only ever kneaded my dough and made the bread the same day. Your method seems like it’d fit into a busy daily schedule much easier.
I started two batches today, one using whole wheat and the other all purpose to see which one turns out tastier.
I’m excited to get them rolled up and in the oven tomorrow once I’m up from my leisurely weekly lay-in.
    Many thanks
Hope the rain doesn’t have you going too stir crazy ❤

@@TinyShinyHome The whole wheat did not turn out great. Very dense. I’ve been having the best luck with all purpose.
I sent the recipe along with measuring cups to my mum in the UK as her arthritis is making it hard for her to make her own bread these days. The no kneading in this recipe is perfect. I’m not sure they have the same kind of flour over there though as hers turned out super dense too.

    Speaking of water...
Grew up in outback Aust in the Channel Country!...
Rainwater is golden... hence is the life blood of the outback...!!!
However, we had about 5 x 10,000 gal rainwater tanks
And 2 x 30ft dams side by side...a short distance from the homestead...one for the house and house paddock etc, and the other had the paddocks fenced into it...
so there was water access for these paddocks!
    We ran sheep back then...
    Maybe this will help...?
