Such a fantastic video! Your passion for goat farming really shines through, and the insights about why Boer goats are such a great choice are so inspiring. It’s amazing to see how much thought and care you put into your farm. Can’t wait to see what’s next on your journey!

    Excellent 👏👏👏
That’s why I watch RUclips. To learn, from two really affable people, about a subject of which I have zero prior knowledge. 👍

I perhaps wouldn’t go that far, but appreciate the comment, always learning in this game :) 😊
Even though I used to work on farms as a youngster nothing can prepare you for running you’re own.. it’s been a steep learning curve so far, but happy to help others If I can 😊

If there is any browsing available, it makes a great forage bank for the goats and also keeps worm counts down. When I returned from Africa I bought some Boergoats as I was managing an outdoor piggery, so had to start with something different, I had a well drained "home paddock" on Wiltshire chalk downs, where they lived outdoors with field shelters, and moved them over several properties to control elder, willow etc on some nearby farms. It is always worth looking at what feed is available, and what systems work in different ground and weather conditions.

Yeah, we got the goats with the aim to use the, to browse the bits sheep don't touch and where tractor can't reach. Just hope they like nettles!

The pasture sharing was very useful advice. During Foot & Mouth in 2001 we ran into a problem. Before this I was milking dairy goats and dairy sheep, we grazed them in separate fields and had few problems, in 2001 we had very restricted grazing because we were near a case, the goats developed serious worm problems because they were grazing some ground normally grazed by sheep. We started zero grazing the goats and reduced sheep numbers, this improved matters, but things only sorted themselves out after we stopped keeping sheep. You need to either keep fields just for one species, or take a cut of hay before putting the goats out.

Is the aim to have a more balanced gender ratio ?
