Lake fishing in Thompson-Nicola region usually slows down in July and August, but there are some lakes which will remain productive throughout the summer. This is one of them. It's Logan Lake. Others nearby where you may wish to visit include Tunkwa Lake and Leighton Lake.
We started out with a few chironomid patterns that are commonly used in this area, but the blood worms were the ones which the fish were interested in at the end.
Thanks. :) Not only an experienced angler, Brian is a fine gentleman and a good friend. We're going to try to do a couple more of these features together in the future. :)
come to Vancouver island ( only night fishing ) trust me the massive trout are out here they are just super pressured so they are smarter so they now come out when everyone else is sleeping
When it comes to fly fishing for trout in streams near Vancouver, you definitely should give either the Skagit River or Thompson River a try. If you are around in August, you may also want to visit the Squamish River (lower river for its pink salmon fishery, upper river for its trout and char fishery).
If you can narrow down what you would like to catch and where you would like to fish (streams, lakes, around Vancouver?), then I may be able to suggest some fisheries. In the meantime, you can also visit our website where you can find articles on locations around Vancouver.
Thank you. There are quite a few video tutorials on this channel already so please take a look at them. If there are specific topics which you think we should cover, you are welcome to leave suggestions.
thank uuuu sooooooooo much rod I subscribe and like all ur vids iv been waiting for a new vid and this ones awesome I learned a lot about fishing rainbow trout and I think I ,ight get a blood worm fly that might work for Lafarge or mike lake right some local lakes maybe
Do you know anything about the san lorenzo river? Next to high way 9 in santa cruz ca. Im going fishing there next weekend for rainbow trout but i dont know what bait to use or what rig do you have any tips?
You always amaze me with the size of those trout Rod! I'm going camping for some stocked rainbows in a week but with the warm water i'm not sure how i'll do. I'm stuck with shore fishing but there are drop offs that reach over 30 feet i can cast to. I have heard night fishing in the heat of summer can produce well, what are your thoughts on that?
The entire leader from where it connects to the floating line to the fly is around 20ft. The indicator is adjusted so that the fly is suspended a few feet above the lake bed, so it depends on how deep the water you're fishing.
To be honest, I don't really know, most likely a white sturgeon. I rarely pay attention to the size of the fish I catch. Big or small, they're all nice.
great video, Rod. Thanks. Tip: It would attract much more attention if you start your videos with some action and save the introduction till a little later. :) thanks for the awesome fishing.
Those are wooden nets with a soft mesh for catching and releasing fish. If you head into any fishing tackle stores, you should be able to find them. The price varies, depending on the quality of the wood and mesh.
Good question Ethan, many factors go into the cause of post-release mortality of a fish. Water temperature is one of them. The higher the temperature, the lower the oxygen level is, therefore fish being released in a lake where water temperature is quite high can have a higher mortality if they find it difficult to recover. Fish handling is another one. A fish being handled too much causes too much stress, so combining this and high water temperature in the summer will make them belly up.
***** thanks for the well-given information, trout that I found in 75 degree water, surprisingly do still feeding even though the factors are though on them. Powerbait was used on with a 2ft to 4ft leader and using 8lb flurocarbon. This was all in Washington.
umm they grow bigger then coastal trout .. i don't think so... i live on Vancouver island bc and i caught a 2-4 pound about every month and i barely fish compared to others
What coastal trout are you talking about? Trout stocked in coastal lakes generally do not have the ability to reach the size which Interior lake trout can reach due to productivity. There are of course exceptions, but in general the numbers are pretty straight forward. If you are talking about anadromous coastal cutthroat trout, then that's different.

Usually you cast with your left hand and reel with your right hand when you are right handed, so it's fine.
Will there be a gear talk for this video?
I've never really tried night fishing for trout at a lake but have heard lots of successes from others when condition is right.
What rod were you using,it looks like a shakespeare sigma 5weight fly rod
Hi Emily, I'm not sure what Brian was using, but mine was a custom built 5wt rod from a Rainshadow blank.
How long was the line from the fly line to the indicator and the indicator to the fly?
The entire leader from where it connects to the floating line to the fly is around 20ft. The indicator is adjusted so that the fly is suspended a few feet above the lake bed, so it depends on how deep the water you're fishing.
Check CC at 14:13 "so Brian sexy see that you got a quite..." 😃
Hmm ok
Thanks!

What time of the year?
what weight fly rod were you using?
5 weight.

great video, Rod. Thanks. Tip: It would attract much more attention if you start your videos with some action and save the introduction till a little later. :) thanks for the awesome fishing.
what type of fishing net is that I want to get one like it
Those are wooden nets with a soft mesh for catching and releasing fish. If you head into any fishing tackle stores, you should be able to find them. The price varies, depending on the quality of the wood and mesh.
Tak!
I caught one that size :D but it had less spots
Thank you. :)
hey rod. What is the biggest fish you ever caught?
If you catch and release trout in the summer time will they die off?
Good question Ethan, many factors go into the cause of post-release mortality of a fish. Water temperature is one of them. These trout have been eating scuds, those are not shrimp.
Good point. The term shrimp, or freshwater shrimp, are often used for scuds.
