What to know about expat health insurance in Bali

- In this video I share a recent accident and resulting emergency surgery that taught me about my options for health insurance as an expat in Indonesia. Anything can happen to you and it's so important to be covered in case of an unpredictable accident like the one that befell me.
I recommend a plan with Allianz, which offers competitive annual rates with no deductible. Unfortunately, at the time of my accident, I had a far more expensive and less effective international plan. But in this case, insurance was better than no insurance.
Be careful out there!
Thank You Adrien, First-rate video, Essential topic that just isn't covered to the degree that you have covered it. Thanks! Sorry you had to have an accident to give us this top-notch video
Glad you’re alive. Wishing you only the best.
Great report. Now, a tip. Look at your insurance options and ask the agent or read the plan details. Here's a shock: Often, injuries from motorcycle accidents, whether rider or passenger, are specifically NOT covered. Or if they are, only 50% of the medical costs. The rental shop often doesn't care if you have a licence or insurance. I've ridden in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and had local licences for all three countries. You must have a licence to keep your local insurance valid. Your homeland insurance may not cover a moto accident even if you are licensed from there. Know your insurance plan. I'll just stop there.
So sorry to see what horrible ordeal you had ! Thank god you got good medical help but it really is so sad. Take care! Wish you get well soon.
Thank you Adrien for this information and a reminder of our human fragility. I will be looking into insurance when I spend 90 days in Bali soon. Much appreciated.
I feel your pain Adrian, I ended up at Siloam hospital Sunday with a deep laceration to my leg. Great hospital, cost for stitches and treatment was about 8m. Totally agree with you on medical insurance, your off your head to visit here without it. Get well soon ok
They will fleece your insurance.
I'm glad you're okay. I wish you have a speedy recovery.
Thanks for the tips
Oh Adrien, I’m so sorry to hear about your accident. Such a shock for you ! Thanks for sharing and for offering your advice about the insurance.
Sending all good wishes for a speedy recovery 🌸
awe thanks for sharing! so so sorry to hear, wishing you healing recovery! Xx
Thank you so much for sharing your story and for the excellent advice.
I'm sorry for your accident and hope you recover quickly!
Thx for sharing. I am just about to renew my Allianz policy. I am definitely going to pay more now and upgrade my coverage especially as I recently moved to Bali and ride a bike.
Thanks for the information. Heal up fast.
Thanks for sharing ..I think a lot of these monsoonal countries have similar dangers . Hire motor scooters , wet roads with shingle washed off hillsides on downhill corners , alcohol . What could possibly happen ? 🙃 The tourist deaths are not widely spoken of in the media ...visitors would be surprised if they knew . Stay aware always is a good mantra ...
and also thanks so much for making this video b/c I almost cancelled my safety wing travel insurance the other day but this helped remind me anything can happen to me here in bali as a solo female traveler.
SafetyWing is horrible, they don't pay and you have to pay everything first and wait 45 days for an answer. Don't believe them anything. They neither paid dengue fever hospitalization nor my friends surgery from a jogging accident. Get a real one like Allianz or from a local bank.
So glad you’re OK Adrien. Thanks for the informative content. Fingers crossed (excuse the pun) your recovery is speedy. Take care.
>>FF to 7:14 for the advise on which insurance to get
Thanks for sharing, hope you have a speedy recovery, take care!
fast recovery mate and i appreciate the warning.
Ouch! I'm sorry to hear the bad news. It could happen to anyone. Thank you for sharing. I hope you are feeling better.
Hi adrien. Thanks so much for sharing this. I live in Bali and have experienced the same. Visitors generally don’t understand or appreciate just how difficult it is. Even at BIMC hospital much of their equipment is very old so for important scans etc what you’re getting is old fashioned treatment. Plus ongoing physiotherapy and follow up treatment we experience in other countries is non existent. I’ve had friends who have no insurance say we will fly to Singapore which is nonsense because if you’re severely injured or too sick it’s not possible. You didn’t mention also the price of medications in Bali. Hugely inflated costs as well. Great video. Sending best wishes for a good recovery. If you can seek out someone to assist with regaining your range of movement after you’re healed Best wishes
Thanks. There is a post care physio available so i am hoping for a full recovery…
Very important message. Thanks for sharing. Feel better soon!
Depending on what type of stone they use can be VERY slippery when wet. That’s why it’s important to know what type of stone to use on floors when building a house in Bali or anywhere.
My Hawaiian friend had a house built in Vali and I nearly fell every single time it rained. It was some type of stone that gets extremely slippery,
I agree, Travel insurance is a MUST!
Take care adrien. It is not easy being alone in a foreign country.
Thank you SO much for doing this extremely informative vid on INSURANCE.
It’s so true .
An accident can happen when you least expect it.🥵
I truly hope your injury/ thumb heals quickly. And returns to proper function.
Take extra Vitamin C !!!!
It’s imperative for healing.
Collagen repair 👌
All the very best 🥰
Thanks for sharing your experience and tips.
I know you are young as are many who have commented but youth doesn’t always shield you from illness. It’s not just accidents that can land you in the hospital with expensive medical bills. A good policy that covers both health and accidents might be wise to obtain.
I think he should live in heaven instead, wheres no crime, no accident, no etc.
Big healing hug 🤗
Hi Adrian, I’m sorry to hear about your hand. I hope that you get better soon! I’m fifty and I have to be careful when traveling too! I’d like to get good medical insurance like you recommended. Thanks for sharing this amazing video! Big hugs and Much love, from Texas!❤️💕
And yet people especially young people still travel to Bali without adequate or any travel insurance. For the sake of saving a bit of money, they potentially end up having to pay thousands for very expensive treatment and medical services. I have deslty with ALLIANZ Insurance when I had my phone stolen in Malaysia they were very good. Thanks for ur vlog
Wish you Get well soon 💫
Very helpful. Thank you.
Such an useful post. Thank you
I'm using safetywing. It's pretty good
Did you ever make a claim? How was the experience?
It's crap
Hello Adrien thanks for sharing do you have the contact of your agent ?
I had SafetyWings life insurance when I traveled to Bali. It also covered Covid insurance as well.
Did you ever make a claim? How was the experience?
@ethanmandel2413 i did and it's horrible. What do people expect from a 30$ a month insurance with no offices or representatives and no real hotline? My story was dengue fever with 3 days in hospital, Safetywing makes you wait 45 days to process a claim and then gets back with the excuse "pre-existing condition" which is simply impossible for dengue. My friend had surgery and they also didn't pay. Now I have OCBC insurance which is combined with investment so you're getting money back. I heard Allianz is the best and might get that one on top just to be extra safe.
I don't want to know what happens if you need urgent surgery and the hospital has to wait for crappy Safetywing to confirm... all these people recommending them to get commissions never made a substantial claim
Hi, do you have a contact for your Allianz agent?
any tourist who rents a self drive bike, anywhere in Asia, is crazy. Medical care in Bali is excellent.
Good advice, thank you
Get better soon Adrien :)
Wow, that’s really expensive in Bali. just not right there overinflating the price of.
Glad you're ok. What was the local company you plan to change to in the future?
Allianz
@@AdrienField ahhh yes that's who we've just signed up with too!!!
Oh Mon Dieu 😩
This is a problem living in 3rd world countries.
of course there's no wound trauma in 1st world countries, so privilege
Lol, in our so called "third world country", we wouldn't have to pay for that operation. FREE. We have a universal healthcare system called BPJS. Unlike the so called first world aMeRiCa 🤣🤣😂
