take the geckos out often. only five to ten minutes at a time. they can get stressed out very quickly. you want to spray your geckos twice a day. feed every other day. fresh water all the time. clean cage/their home once a week. for the flooring. nothing expensive needed. just a paper towel is fine. (helps to make sure they are moving their bowels and urinaing properly/well). HANDLE WITH CARE. do the hand walk like he is doing. dont be scared if they jump. that is what they do. tall cage's best!

smaller crested geckos living in smaller bins YES do clean or change the paper towels once a week but honestly change the paper towels when they start looking dirty.....two or 3 weeks and completely deep clean every 6 weeks or so.

I've worked in two pet stores with two very different environments. The first one I worked in, everyone was super into the health and care of all animals no matter what they were into. We had everything too, and we did have lights in the cresteds tank but they went off at night. However, in the second store I worked I it was awful considering they didn't care, at all, but acted like they cared near customers. Always buy from a breeder, guys, unless you can 100% be sure of the authenticity of the pet store you're buying from.

Animal Crackers hey, so my crested gecko has been hiding under his moss, he is not really eating his fruit mix or his fruits, a couple nights ago I put about 10 crickets in his terrarium and about 9/10 of them he had eaten by that next morning. I don't know if he's a boy or a girl, he seems to be a young gecko and I dunno if he is a good weight. I think he is a good weight though. It was with another gecko when I got it from pet smart (Bad idea to get it from pet smart.) I looked up why it could be hiding under his moss, and it said that your crested gecko might be pregnant, which worries me. I have moss and coconut fiber in his terrarium though. I am offering him food every other day and have also offered him strawberries and bannanas and sprinkled repashy calcium dust on it. I handled him for the first time today, and have had him for 2 weeks now. I'm really worried, I think I am doing a good job of taking care of him, but at the same e time I feel like I'm not. What do you think I should do?

Just got my second crestie, a Harlequin juvie who seems extremely calm and quite confident! I'm hoping he/she doesn't take long to settle in.
I can definitely recommend cresties as a pet, even for children as long as they are responsible. You need to keep temperature and humidity constant, and only have to feed Crested Gecko Diet such as Repashy every 3 days or so, which is basically a powder mixed with water. They are EXTREMELY easy to keep.

    • @gretcheneddy2680
      @gretcheneddy2680 6 лет назад

You should replace their food every 24 hours because after that time the food loses many key nutrients. I don't put very much food in their terrarium, and I replace it often to ensure they get enough nutrients.

I don't have a crestie but I have a gargoyle gecko, I did hours and hours of research for a couple of months for getting mine and I did that everyday. I was lucky to get his set up all complete and ready before getting him. He came from a petstore here where I am from but they specialised in reptiles and other exotics, the guy who sold him to me has crested geckos and gargoyles and gave me so much information. I went to first go check out the gargoyle I was interested in, held him and looked over his body, eyes, feet and weight. He was social, active and energetic liked jumping all over my hands. I could tell he was being socialised and handled. When I came back to collect him a week later he was still healthy and all the good stuff. brought him home asap and got him settled in. He ate that night too which made me very happy and settled in very nicely, he was exploring his tank surroundings, climbing on everything, looking at me when I was around. then a week later I held him for 5 minutes and he was very happy and calm, loved hopping from hand to hand. But yes you must!! do research I don't recommend going to a petstore with out researching their care and make sure they specialise in reptiles and know what they are doing.

Although this is very very late, if you want to get a gecko from a breeder which I highly recommend, not only to avoid overpaying for geckos in poor health but to support professionals who truly have a passion for geckos, go on morph market. Use the filter "price low to high" or something like that, if it matters to you. You can see all the different morphs and prices very easily, as well as use my favorite feature, morphmap. Although it doesn't show every single reptile breeder in the country, it shows those with listings on morphmarket so you can locate a more local breeder. I plan on using it to get a gecko from a nearby breeder, since shipping can be pricey and i'd rather not have to worry about being home when the crestie gets delivered.

I've found the exact opposite at my local pet supermarket and petco. Most if not all of the employees were very familiar with the care and many owned several reptiles/geckos.I bought two female white lined geckos from pet supermarket over a year ago and because they're not as common as the other geckos the salesperson made sure I had all the info. I needed. They're thriving and huge.
I just bought my first crested, a juvenile from petco, again the sales associate had Cresties and gave me many tips. She also was telling me alternatives to use instead of spending a ton on stuff from their store.
I must've asked her a million questions (I've taken care of adult crested, this is my first juvenile),she stood and made sure I knew everything I needed to know.
I love your videos and thank you for the tips.Just don't agree with the comments about the pet store reps..

sorry if I'm a bit late, but cresties are really easy to care for. Enclosures should be about the size of a shoebox (maybe a five gal tank) with fake plants and plenty of things for them to climb or hide under. Feeding is really easy; Repashy or pangea powder (mix one part powder to two parts water) in a small dish (like the size of a bottle cap) is all you need to give them. change it out every 48 hours. They don't need to eat bugs, but you can give them crickets like maybe once a week. Dubia roaches work too. stay far away from mealworms though. Intestinal blockages.

This was a good video overall considering the information about health and more... no I don't have any experience in owning one but I have done weeks of research of them in captivity and the wild and I must say for the geckos sake I hope others dont see how you have them in the small " enclosure " aka a storage container.. if someone is consider this animals they should firmly know that they NEED climbing space and lots of plants whether live or fake to climb above ground as they are arboreal lizards meaning they mainly stick to the trees and in the leaves above ground. I'm not trying to hate on you or this video what so ever it was a informative video but the habitat is the most important part of taking care of an animal and needs to be tall even of that means very little floor space . Make sure you give them lots of options to climb up high.

The tubs are for breeders because it is cheaper to buy that than glass tanks but it doesn't effect the geckos health

+ALG.geckos it depends, many/most breeders cohabitate their herps or have way too small of habitats with little or no climbing or moving space.

i have had my gecko for like 3-4 months. And i cant handle "it" at all. He/She is very, VERY skittish and freaks out when he/she sees my hand. I have had it on my hand and trying to get he/she to be used to my hand. Im trying! I hope when it gets bigger i can handle he/she more. Any suggestions?

I guess it'd be stupid to ask if you ship them worldwide... I just really don't know how to get one in my country!

Ye but if a pet store invested in keeping reptiles they would imploy a reptile keeper of some sort

That is a beautiful gecko at 5:00 , what morph would you define that as? I'm just getting into cresties and their morphs and these really dark ones are stunning.
