Thank you for that bit of information. I wish I could write a funny skit about the two stroke hedge trimmer I have to listen to. Comedy is better than murder.
Oliver doesn't know when he's beat, he doesn't know when he's winning either, he has no sensory apparatus known to man. love this. they are all so clever. rock on pythons!!
I remember I was having a really bad day when I came home and this was in the TV. I laughed so hard I pissed myself totally forgetting my problems. MP making life right again. Happy 50th anniversary boys!
I love the way there were only 4 rabbits and debutantes even though there were 5 competitors. It's like they didn't expect one of them to survive that long.
"They must be shooting from a range of at least one foot!" That is one of the greatest Monty Python sketches ever, and damn those were two of the most gorgeous cars I have ever seen!
This is the funniest sketch ever in history IMO! I've seen it for 40 years now and every time I end up crawling on the floor laughing like a maniac! Thank god for Monty Python!
The white car is a Triumph (Spitfire?), and yes, the dark car is a Jag XKE. I'd love to own either one, but I'm a Yank who'd be happy with any old basic Brit saloon (Wolseley 1500, Vauxhall Victor, and yes, a Moggie Minor!). For that matter, toss me a BMC Farina-bodied saloon as well!
If there is anything funnier that has ever been filmed, I want to see it. I first saw this over 25 years ago and I still laugh hysterically every time. I can quote the damn thing and yet still I laugh out loud. Brilliant!
This is absolutely Piss-Your-Pants funny! I don't recall EVER seeing this skit during the '70s when the Python shows were being broadcast in syndication here in the US, and now that I've found it on youtube, I just have to watch it once a day! No matter how many times I watch, it STILL amazes me.
Forget the Parrot Sketch (well don't that's brilliant too) this is the number one Monty Python sketch and is indeed the number one most funniest thing I have ever witnessed in my books.
Forget watching the video just listening to Cleese commentate the the goings on so fervishly and just keeps rolling so hard with it till the bitter end is enough to have you passing out laughing. "Well he's dead now but not quite out of it yet!" Good lord only a Python!
But the great majority of comedy fans in the US, just don't see the humor. It's too bad. (I'm tired of all this sex on the television, I keep falling off.) Love that one.
Well there'll certainly be some car door slamming in Kensington tonight! - I still use that catch phrase either after a major sporting triumph or just something silly around the house :-D
The one scene that almost spoiled their success in America...one of the many though to be fair (watch the documentaries)...so glad hey finally made it. They deserved so more than this countries recognition!
"His father uses him as a wastepaper basket........the jump of a lifetime, if only his father could understand........this boy doesn't know when he's beaten, he doesn't know when he's winning either......MY GOD THIS IS EXCITING!" This is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
an excellent "self portrait" of all upper and lowerclass twits of great britain...."nailed it".....and very funny too.....still very "actual" in 2023....
President Bush II: "I'm going to finish -- I'm going to work hard to the finish. I'm going to sprint to the finish line, and then you'll find me in Crawford." Dick Cheney shooting somewhat at rabbits tied to the ground.
There has never been greater comedians than Monty Python and I don't think there ever will be! This is fhe funniest sketch ever caught on film , enjoy!!!
John Cleese actually lived with some neighbours who kept waking him up by slamming the doors of their cars. This sketch was basically his revenge.
Thank you for that bit of information. I wish I could write a funny skit about the two stroke hedge trimmer I have to listen to. Comedy is better than murder.
In which case he certainly got his point across. Revenge is a dish best served cold..
Oliver doesn't know when he's beat, he doesn't know when he's winning either, he has no sensory
apparatus known to man. love this. they are all so clever. rock on pythons!!
Oliver is dead but not quite out of it HAHAHA!! The commentary is the funniest part of it lol
AND OLIVER HAS RUN HIMSELF OVER!!
WHAT A BRAVE TWIT!
what a classic line
I remember I was having a really bad day when I came home and this was in the TV. I laughed so hard I pissed myself totally forgetting my problems. MP making life right again. Happy 50th anniversary boys!
I love the way there were only 4 rabbits and debutantes even though there were 5 competitors. It's like they didn't expect one of them to survive that long.
I will always view this as the best Python skit ever. I can't stop laughing still after all these years. "Oliver has run himself over!!! "
How the heck does Oliver not win by doing that?
@@MLaak86 Well, he didn't make it to the end of the course. He would have won if the other twits failed to kill themselves.
Despite this being a 70s sketch, it's amazing how it's still so relevant today. British comedy never gets old.
"They must be shooting from a range of at least one foot!" That is one of the greatest Monty Python sketches ever, and damn those were two of the most gorgeous cars I have ever seen!
Best part was Oliver running himself over with a car.
+Nicholas Julian ...how do you run yourself over with a car?
+Nick Kelley That's just the best part!
Nick Kelley Brian Harvey managed it!
What a great TWIT!!!!
I cracked on that part x'D
probably my favourite of theirs...and Cleese's commentary is brilliant
He's dead but not necessarily out of it!
sbunc92 he's just resting!
45 years later and except for needing to be upgraded to hi-def, this is still excellent stuff.
“if only a few of the so-called ‘working classes’ would destroy themselves so sportingly” i am cryinggggggg
“deceased, et cetera”
"The jump of a lifetime, if only his father could understand"...rofl...lmao. I love Monty Python.
If there was ever a time in America for Monty Python, that time is now.
This is what? 50 years old now and still funnier than 90% the crap that is on TV or the internet today.
This is the funniest sketch ever in history IMO! I've seen it for 40 years now and every time I end up crawling on the floor laughing like a maniac! Thank god for Monty Python!
I firmly beleive this is 100% better than the "and now for something completely differant" version
And Nigel's clubbed himself into 4th place
"And Nigel's clubbed himself into fourth place"
Great skit
"Ohhhh there's Oliver, he's dead but he's not necessarily out of it" LOL frickin' genius, they could not have done this better.
Graham Chapman definitely does the best facial expressions out of all of them. I love Monty Python.
Gotta love British humor.
This is my favorite Monty Python skit ever. XD I wish we could have this race every year. Just imagine the preliminaries.
By far ..one of my favorite sketches from MP. LOVE IT! There was a second version with John Cleese redoing the play by play, which was even better.
"Ah, there's Oliver! He's dead! He's not necessarily out of it!"
Classic.
Wonderful stuff from the Python guys. When they got it right they were seriously funny.
If there is anything funnier that has ever been filmed, I want to see it. I first saw this over 25 years ago and I still laugh hysterically every time. I can quote the damn thing and yet still I laugh out loud. Brilliant!
That was my day's exercise right there, holy crap! That was the one sketch that made me a fan, it's too much!
This is Monty Python's masterpiece, in my opinion. "THE JUMP OF A LIFETIME.....IF ONLY HIS FATHER COULD UNDERSTAND....."
All excellent PM material.
😆😆😆
''To win they must shot themselves!''
So friggin hilarious
One of my alltime favorite Python sketches. And now, for something completely hilarious!
Having a bad day? Always end up here!
The originality of your wit... It slays me.
@1:50 : "The jump of a lifetime! If only his father could understand!"
That line slays me, every single time.
My all time favourite Python sketch, it doesn't get better than this!
They must have had SO much fun making this.... I was in hysterics the first time I saw this!
P.G. Wodehouse would have been proud. :-)
Precisely, Sir!
This is one of the funniest if not the funniest skit eva!!!!!!!!
Still one of my favourite skits.
Just the title of this skit, "The Upper Class Twit of the Year" gets me!
Best line: "Oh, there's Oliver! He's dead but not necessarily out of it!" LMAO!
Oliver has run himself over!
That is just genius!

makes me laugh every time i watch it.
awesome!!
Forget the Parrot Sketch (well don't that's brilliant too) this is the number one Monty Python sketch and is indeed the number one most funniest thing I have ever witnessed in my books.
"There's Oliver, he's dead but not necessarily out of it!" John Cleese announcing adds so much more to this! Hilarious!
John absolutely Kills here! XD
I love how he runs in circles and the way he tripped over the match boxes XD
The actual funniest thing I have ever seen, I was literally in tears.
About Oliver: "He's dead, but he's not necessarily out of it."
Hilarious!
I live in that estate in the background and that's my local park. I've hung off the edge of the stadium when I used to drink!
Brilliant sketch
Until seeing the video, not a great fan but, this was the best 'Python' I've ever seen, great fun and very amusing.
My all time favorite skit.
AND OLIVER HAS RAN HIMSELF OVER!!!
Forget watching the video just listening to Cleese commentate the the goings on so fervishly and just keeps rolling so hard with it till the bitter end is enough to have you passing out laughing. "Well he's dead now but not quite out of it yet!" Good lord only a Python!
My favourite Python sketch. Hilarious... Couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it.
monty python is one of the best comedy shows of ALL TIME!!!!
But the great majority of comedy fans in the US, just don't see the humor. It's too bad. (I'm tired of all this sex on the television, I keep falling off.) Love that one.
'oooh and theres oliver, he's dead but not necessarily out of it'
haha....soo good
And Nigel clubbed himself into 4th place! XD
Absolutely genius comedy!
"Oliver's dead, but not necessarily out of it!"
That line ALWAYS cracks me up!
And that's why he was that year's outstanding twit.
This is my favorite Monty Python sketch of all time.
How can anyone hate this sketch? One of the funniest things ever.
Well there'll certainly be some car door slamming in Kensington tonight! - I still use that catch phrase either after a major sporting triumph or just something silly around the house :-D
Monty Python strikes such a wonderful perfect balance between intellectual humor and slapstick. It's incredible.
i have watched this at least 1 time a week and its as funny as it was the first time.
I love this sketch. So many other versions here on RUclips have events removed.
Comedy at its finest, they don't make them like this anymore
"AND OLIVER HAS RUN HIMSELF OVER!!!!" LOL. I laughed so hard, I almost crapped a kitten.
"And there's Oliver! And he's dead, but not necessarily out of it!"
Genius, pure genius.
one of the best monty pythons
The one scene that almost spoiled their success in America...one of the many though to be fair (watch the documentaries)...so glad hey finally made it. They deserved so more than this countries recognition!
oh for crying out loud, i could not stop laughing at this!! this is up there with the ministry of silly walks :)
48 people have apparently never been to SOME parts of England..."waking the neighbour" is my favourite part...LOL!
"What a brave twit!" That was great.
"And Vivian's over beautifully! Oh, the jump of a lifetime, if only his father could understand."
"His father uses him as a wastepaper basket........the jump of a lifetime, if only his father could understand........this boy doesn't know when he's beaten, he doesn't know when he's winning either......MY GOD THIS IS EXCITING!" This is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Ah Thersea May's government in action .... She seems to have run herself over though.....
And all these years since I last saw this, I always thought it was Nigel who ran himself over.
an excellent "self portrait" of all upper and lowerclass twits of great britain...."nailed it".....and very funny too.....still very "actual" in 2023....
Oliver running himself over is probably still my favorite comedy-moment ever.
And I also don't think that's changing anytime soon! :P
same dude, when they would advertise the flying circus on TV, i wanted to buy it so bad just because of this sketch, lol.
"Oliver is dead, but not necessarily out of it!"
What a competition.
haha Olivers expression is so awesome when he talks about them.
At 1:50 "the jump of a lifetime, if only his father could understand" ao many small gems hidden in the narration.
President Bush II: "I'm going to finish -- I'm going to work hard to the finish. I'm going to sprint to the finish line, and then you'll find me in Crawford."
Dick Cheney shooting somewhat at rabbits tied to the ground.
There has never been greater comedians than Monty Python and I don't think there ever will be! This is fhe funniest sketch ever caught on film , enjoy!!!
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!
How could anyone dislike this it is pure comedy gold I guess some people have no soul
The best part is the commentator..Priceless!!! LOL
"... And Nigel has woken the neighbor. My God this is exciting!" xD
I love how everyone loves the Oliver part the best :)
