    Okay I am impressed you are the first reviewer I've EVER heard that sad "Don't go for the Turbo" for long term reliability! It really bugs me when reviewers do nothing but talk about the top trims and turbo engines, NEVER emphasizing value or longevity in the purchase. Also having watched some folks who actually tried off-roading both the Kona and Seltos, the 7 speed dual-clutch tends to overheat pretty easily; too much clutch engagement, I'd guess. Not that _either_ are any sort of serious off-roader, I would imagine you'd get better results with the IVT than the dual-clutch.
    Perhaps for a future video it' d be good to have one explaining why Turbo'd engines never last as long as naturally aspirated ones. You could even go into pros/cons of MFI vs GDI and how some have both. While most folks likely don't know or care what all that is and why it matters, they need to understand why they _should_ care about the engine in the car they're about to pay good money for.

    • @carhelpcorner
      @carhelpcorner  3 года назад +9

      I'm glad you appreciate my take! Long-term reliability is important to most people, and I'll always take that into consideration when reviewing any car. Kia and Hyundai are both known for issues with their turbo engines and dual-clutch transmissions, so the base drivetrain is best.

    • @Dakiraun
      @Dakiraun 3 года назад +7

      @@carhelpcorner I think it's great that you do because no other reviewers seem to give value to the "long term reliability" factor. I would go so far as to say _no_ turbo'd engine is as reliable as the naturally aspirated versions; just comes down the laws of physics. And it is, sadly, a growing trend today to see more automakers using turbos to meet their corporate emissions targets instead of making better engines. I hope your channel continues to grow and folks looking for car advice discover it.

      @@Dakiraun Agreed. Turbo engines tend to be a lot more problematic over the long-haul. I think it's definitely a good idea to make a future video on this topic!

      Part of the problem is most reviewers are only given the top end model to review - and most think that more power = better ... normal people have much different needs

    • @Dakiraun
      @Dakiraun 3 года назад +3

      @@MrKikoboy Yeah, that really irritates me - reviewers are _always_ showing the top-trim models, which most people never buy (and/or can't afford). Most people by base to mid-level. On the upside though, base and mid-level at least tend to have naturally aspirated engines, so greater chance of long-life.

    The worst feature inflicted on the public is the Electric park brake, this is the "Boeing MCAS" fault built in to most modern new cars, lose your electrics whilst driving and not only do you lose power steering and brakes, you also lose COMPLETE CONTROL of your vehicle, this is a tragedy waiting to happen. This is the "Elephant in the room" no one has noticed yet.

    The 2021 kona has a six speed automatic transmission in lower trims. The 2022 kona is the first to get the CVT. So the 2021 kona and the 2021 seltos do not have the same transmission. Otherwise, the comparison is great and I appreciate someone spending the time to discuss these vehicles a little more thoroughly.

      The only issue they have is they need more frequent oil changes.
      That's it lol.
      People just don't want to take care of their vehicles like they're supposed to.
      The 2.0l at 147hp is just too damn slow. The only way it's viable imo would be if they made it a hybrid. Use the hybrid system from the Tuscon. Would gain about 20-30 more HP. Making 160-170ish range.
      So it would be almost on par with the 1.6t from the earlier models that produced 174HP. (They push out 195 now)

    As far as the 1.6T DCT drivetrain combination goes, it's way better setup and it's coupled with a multilink rear suspension and AWD. Yes, the engine is scheduled at more frequent oil changes becsuse of the turbo and because it's direct injected it will require chemical valve cleaning to maintain efficiency and performance. The DCT behaves exactly like a manual shift transmission especially at bumper to bumper traffic, which someone who has never driven a manual transmission will be under impression that there's something wrong with it. People need to understand the mechanical setup of this or any vehicle which they buy and drive it accordingly. Which includes letting the engine idle for couple of minutes after a spirited drive alowing the turbo to cool down to preven premature wear on the bearing. My only issu with the 1.6T engine is that it only takes 3.8L of oil when a turbo setup would definitely benefit from having larger oil capacity to keep it running cooler.
