Thanks for the shout out! It's inspiring to see how other people put different lights to use, and I think you highlighted a huge bonus to this light, which is just how portable it really is. I'm loving my 60x still too, and don't see myself getting rid of it any time in the near future.
It also makes a great key light rim light setup for wedding receptions and first dances. It has pretty good throw and that focus light gets really tight I to a spot light. 3 of these make an incredible wedding reception setup.
Great suggestion! I use mine as a rim light as well, but did have need for it to step up as a key light on an interview shoot in a pinch. We had to turn it at 100% with the Light Dome II, but it got the job done!
The first thing to come to mind for me was using it for outdoor shoots without power or really fast run & gun situations. It is more expensive than the Boltzen 55 and the Genaray Torpedo and a lot of other lights, but those just feel a bit more brittle and less refined. Fortunately I'm not really in the market for new lights until covid is calmed down so we'll see what's out then. I'm sure Godox and others are paying attention and planning their challengers.
So i just ordered two of them with intention to replace 1x of my 120d II. I want more compact light and was looking to add a second rim light. I love your idea of using it with the super clamp. I know you've mentioned about not being strong enough for the key light but for talking heads (most of what i shot) two of them might be a perfect set. I really like that you don't have to use a ballast and all is build in. Altough seems like 60d is more powerful but its better to have the control of light temperature.
What an awesome little light! The ability to take it with you anywhere and run it off of a vmount battery or npf's is great. If portability/battery power is something I value, would your recommend something like this over the Amaran 100d/x? I am not sure on the power output I might need right now.
Great video, thanks!! I'm JUST getting into video and literally bought a 120DMKII this morning ha ha. It's just for shooting RUclips videos. Would you say this would be a compliment or replacement for the 120DMKII? I know in the video you said it's not as bright but with the Light Dome II do you think it would be good enough or should I stick with the 120DMKII?
@@TommyCallaway Awesome, thank you so much for the answer and for your knowledge. I will not cancel my Amazon order then LOL. Have a fantastic day and I look forward to watching more of your videos!!
Is this too targeted for lighting up an outdoor tent event? I do a lot of weddings where I’m in a tent at night and the tent is lit with dim yellow bulbs usually. I was thinking this on a maffer clamp on a tent pole with the v-mount right on the side. But it might not work if it’s very targeted.
if anyone has an idea, wanted to ask, if there's a good light for having an effect like the aputure 120dii + fresnel 2x, for that hard light look on a subject (i bounce it from in front of the subject, up off the ceiling into a corner, gives a top down hard light look and back light at the same time) was interested in the ls 60x coz it has that focused beam (stronger than a fresnel, probs) bicolor functionality and the sidus app, but what am rly lookin for is somethin w a feature set like the godox sz150r, more rgb than simply bicolor, but smaller/harder src like the ls 60d/x i kno the prolycht orion is out dare, but its like $2k and a bit large. lookin for something small like the ls 60, w rgb options. tryna do like a dramatic noir lighting on the subject widdout needin to light a whole room / lose 2/3 output via geling anyway, lighting is cool, and its good to see more options becoming avails
Quick question. I'm doing a lot of corporate and I want to create a YT channel of tech review in French. So mainly interviews BUT on the side I want to use the 60d or the 60x inside and outside for video clips to use with gels etc...and I need a lot of output to use outside ! Which one would you use ?
Great video as always, Tommy. Okay, lots of questions, lol. As an ML60 owner... One, is one of these still worth picking up if you've already got the ML60 and various accessories for it? I got the ML60 a couple months ago and I absolutely love it, but this obviously does a bit more than that is capable of. Two, are the bonus features the Aputure has over the ML60 worth the extra money if you're satisfied with the ML60? I'm getting to ap oint where I am adding multiple different lights and while LED color quality is pretty consistent across the board I sometimes worry about mixing different brand's color temps. I find myself using Aputure, Godox, Luxli, and sometimes a Quasar on the same setups sometimes depending on what I need. Worth it to invest in the same brand for consistency's sake? Also, side questions about the battery: Obviously don't need to run at 100% power, so how much time on average would you get out of one 45w battery with the 60? I love the form factor of that battery and would love to invest in it if I snag that Aputure in the future. And do you think anything larger than the 45w would make it too unwieldy?
It being a 60w light, at 100%, it will get 1 min per watt. So bigger batteries for more time, I have a 200wh micro that does a great job with this light as well. If you are happy with the ML60, then don’t let GAS get to you, just make content. I prefer how quick the 60x is to deploy and use though, and bi color with the built in fresnel. They are different tools. The ML60 is smaller and quieter overall, the 60x can be vmount powered out of the box. Worth it to me, but I needed a light that does what the 60x does.
Thank you for informative video. I got a question, what would you recommend if you had only budget to get 1 light to use at home for youtube content /as key/ and perhaps in future it could be used in variouse scenarios. I think that 60x would be more versatile then 60d, what are your thoughts? Many thanks.
I know you mentioned you won't use it as a keylight but do you think it can be used as a keylight at all for lets say an interview or when you can get close to your subject?
Yup....i've been waiting for this light (especially the 60X) for the last few months. My plan is to sell my four Nanlite Forza 60's (with all the fresnel attachments and soft-boxes) and invest in four Aputure 60X's thus having my two 300x and the new lights all on one App. Even though the 60D is more powerful, to have the option of bi-colour is always a great thing. I do however wonder one thing that has been pointed out about the 300D MKII. If you try and get that down to 3200K with a Full CTO, the TLCI which normally is 96, drops to about 88 with the full CTO and goes very green. I wonder if the new 60D does the same? Also it seems that Aputure no longer want their lights IP rated (which is very disappointing) and just state the unit is 'weather resistant'. Its not that i don't trust Aputure but the IP rating is industry standard so easy to measure vs other lights. Thanks for the review Tommy 👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah.. I heard somewhere IP54 on this one but I could be wrong. but I really do like the IP system. Much more concrete. Either way, super solid fixture.
@@TommyCallaway Can't officially give an IP rating. But weather-resistant for sure. Like I mentioned in the User Guide, the power solutions aren't weatherproof but the power connector and the actual lamp head is. @@siemworks7078 i do like the Forza 60's although the fan is slightly noisy. I bought four as i'd just sold my Dedo 4 head kit and needed to upgrade. The 60x is what i've been waiting for as having bi-colour for an 'accent' light is really key for me
Everyone still talks about the missing headphone jack on an iPhone. I believe they are bringing it back next iPhone. People have been asking for it. Cool light.

Quick and to the point! Looks like another winner for Aputure. Thanks for the video, Tommy.
I ordered this specifically for its rim light abilities and I’m happy to hear you explain how it’s perfect for that.
How do you think this light would work as a key light?
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for to handle my rim light so I can grab my quasars and use them somewhere else.
That’s exactly what I was thinking!!! Rim light in my home office and use my NPF batteries.

Was it the bi color 60x ?

Amazing. Love the idea of superclamping it! Dang, now I really want this to replace my mini20Ds with these for accents 😬 Thanks for your videos. 🙌🏻
I’ve gone from owning zero super clamps to owning 8 within the past week. Unbelievably useful 🤯
Super clamps are amazing. Also work well as a headphone holder, the spigot thing I used in this video also works well as a gaff tape holder. Lol
Many thanks, you do great reviews
I already own Amaran 200x, 100x, P60x, P60c, and Fresnel 2x. I wonder if I still need LS60X for wedding.

Absolutely. The focusing mechanism and barn doors it comes with are great. It also comes with a Bowen’s mount adapter should you need to use it.

if I had to pick one between the two, I would still stick with the 120d mk 2 as your key / main light. The 60x is a great second light.

At what power does the noise begin to be noticeable?
How bad is it from 1-2 meters?
Can you place the link for the adapter on the super clamp ?
Where can I find that spigot adapter?
