Mulan II is not the worst Disney sequel ever. In fact I'm fond of it. As someone of Asian descent, as a kid I was excited that my best friend growing up (full blooded Taiwanese) and I had more characters to play as w/o complete cultural appropriation with the introduction of the 3 princesses.
I remember when I was a little kid, I used to have a DVD that had a ton of Disney princess songs. Of all of those songs, this was one of my favorites. It'll always have a place in my heart. ❤
Mulan: are you a real warrior? Children: well technically, nah Mulan: have you ever caught a dragon like Mushu? Children: nah nah nah nah Mulan: alright I can see that I will have to teach you how to be warrior LESSON NUMBER ONE!
In the very beginning when Mulan was naming opposites, I just noticed she was also naming differences between Yin & Yang which, her parents soon have her and Shang their Yin Yang necklaces.
its about balance and strength, you must be strong and firm to protect and stand for what you love.. but you also must be soft and roll with the punches so you can remain loving and go with the flow
That's the point. If you can be soft and gentle while being hard and rough, then you can balance the opposites easily. It's not that hard, we pretty much do something like that everyday without knowing it. Everyone is a contradiction in some point in their life, some sooner than others.
Love this song! It shows that women/girls don't have to be masculine in order to be courageous and strong. Femininity and feminine traits are not weak.
I do love this song, and the movie itself wasn't bad to me, but as a sequel to Mulan, it wasn't that great. I think if they had made this movie as a stand alone with different characters instead of a sequel, I think it would have been a lot better somehow... But yeah, this song is really awesome! :D
I completely agree. I loved Mulan's awkward side in the first film, but in the second it was just gone. It was like she was perfect. And Shang lost his respectable power he had before. He was turned in to...an idiot, to be frank
I agree! It was a pretty good movie but it was an extremely weak sequel. People would have liked it more if, like you said, it had been a standalone. There was enough material in it that didn't link to the first movie that they could have done it easily with new characters...

I agree! The songs and story were just wonderful and entertaining! People like to trash it because its a sequel but they never give it the chance it deserves!
he didn't teached her exactly this in the first movie and if you look back at the lyrics of "i'll make a man outta you" he says something like "Tranquil as a forest but on fire within, once you find your center you are sure to win". It's basically the same principal
I think Mulan got it from her own experience when training; when she learned so much to balance her masculine traits with her feminine traits, when to be rough and gentle
I also always dance along with this song like when they fold their hands in the like a cloud thing! I just love this song its soft and hard at the same time!
Mulan had had to go to boot camp, train every day, and push her self to the limit to be a good fighter, yet these girls learned over the coarse of one song?
Yep. Like, Mulan saved all of China and proved that women could be just as powerful as men, but yet Elsa and Anna are the Disney "feminists." It just makes me laugh so much.

Shang: Mulan your grandma invited some guests
Mulan: Who is it
Shang: China
I don't remember if it was this exactly but it was funny
Mulan: Would you like to stay for dinner?
Grandma: WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY FOREVER?!
That is from the second one XD
SleepingRose I know XD
Grandma: comes home from war and brings a sword. Shouldve brought a man.
*shang arrives*
Shang: does Fa Mulan live here?
Mom and grandma: *point*
Shang: *leaves*
Grandma: sign me up for the next war!
Typical Asian grandma (not to be racist, I’m Asian)
Mulan can teach kids martial arts in like 2 minutes
But...
Yet it takes Shang like months to train grown ass men.
Lol that's because most of the time kids are smarter than adults give them credit for and girls are just better
She's clearly a prodigy
She just taught them a few moves, not enough to defeat an army of Huns.

Mulan inspired a huge part of my childhood
Its hard to get used to mulan's voice when she had a boy voice half of the time.
yeah it is
Mulan: YOU CAN FLYYYYYYYYYY!
Me: Seriously?! I can?! *falls off cliff* YOU STILL OWE ME 50 CENTS!
I hace never laughed so much in my Life Ruby xD BOOTIFUL
In the very beginning when Mulan was naming opposites, I just noticed she was also naming differences between Yin & Yang which, her parents soon have her and Shang their Yin Yang necklaces.
She was teaching the children to apply the theory of yin and yang to warriors.
I turned off the volume to sing this.I accidentally sang "Thanks for Watching!" at the end.
When we are at our most pathetic, it is important that we remember that somewhere, someone is tripping up a set of stairs.
I warned you bout those stairs, man.

Love this song! It shows that women/girls don't have to be masculine in order to be courageous and strong. Femininity and feminine traits are not weak.
More like you must balance both the femininity and masculinity found within us all in order to find peace and move forward but i love girl power too ❤
Mulan: *HIYAAAAAA!!!*

Shang: Oh Mulan, your grandma invited someone to celebrate the engagement.

Funny, I don’t remember Shang teaching this during training in the first film! Wonder where she got it from.
From her parents, maybe
Or maybe from her own experience on the battlefield :D
Maybe Shang just did teach mulan but did not show
