Just offer Doreen a years supply of chocolates and promise to her that she can watch the cartoons whenever she wants and she'd be running to the hospital.
Kate Peterson has the perfect face for her Jekyll & Hyde character. It's friendly, welcoming, intelligent, batshit crazy and downright evil all at the same time. She spooked the shit out of me the first time I watched Prisoner in the early 90's and she's already started to spook me out again.
I understand Doreen's fear, but you're stuck in prison. You may as well help your friend. Afterall, everyone dies someday. You may as well do something sacrificing and help a friend.
Doreen does frustrate me but I do feel sorry for her. She can't help but be scared, it's no one else's choice but Doreens. She shouldn't be made to feel like she has to do this!

All those years inside never learned to stick up for herself but has no problem making Bea get her hands dirty then when Bea really needs her she’s remains a coward.
Donating a kidney is very serious business. Its crap that she's being told its no big deal, or making it out that its a simple procedure, quite the opposite, it is a very difficult procedure, and a donor has a chance at dying during the procedure or (as been mentioned by others) could have troubles down the road with her last remaining kidney. However - what is so frggn frustrating here is that Doreen has ALWAYS been selfish and childish. She has NEVER done anything selfLESS for another during the entirety of this show. This whole kidney storyline gives her a chance to put someone else above herself. Redeem her character. Watchers are frustrated because its typical Doreen. Speaking for myself I am pulling for her to change her mind again and save Bea just so I can feel she's done something honorable for once in her miserable life.
Because it isn't a big deal... People live a long full healthy life with just 1.. the surgery it's self is only about 2 hours, probably less with technology today 🙄
I absolutely love Colleen Powell partially because of the great job Judith McGrath did. It's very difficult to enjoy a character that isn't believable. =P Poface was a highlight of the show during her run.
So Meg says that her losing her ID card is really serious if a prisoner finds it so instead of reporting it as missing to Davo immediately she waits until Erica asks her where her ID card is lol
Bea has done a lot for Doreen over the years. Hell, Doreen depended on Bea so much to make decisions for her and clean up her many messes so many times that Doreen doesn't know the true meaning of responsibility. She's not that young. she's very close to turning 30. Giving a kidney is a big deal, but it would've been the right thing to do to just suck it up and help her friend, especially it being a life and death scenario.
I understand Doreen being scared, nobody really explained things to her at first and Doreen is very slow and immature. Then once she finally agreed, Lizzie scared the hell out of her with the crap she said. They should have given her a little more time to think about it before setting up the surgery. But Doreen should do it because Bea and Lizzie are the closest thing to family that Doreen has ever had. Bea would do it for her.. no doubt about that. Could you wind up years down the road needing that kidney??? there is a slim chance, but there is also a slim chance you will get struck by lightning or meet with some other accident. We don't know when we are going to die. However if Bea does not get a kidney, she will die sooner than later and she will live out what time she has left needing that machine and when she is not hooked to it she will be sick and have poor quality of life. Looks like the only day she feels ok is the day she has the dialysis
I can understand why Doreen has opted against donating the kidney to Bea. Realistically, she is not the type of person who could go through something as major as that when she has a choice either way. Sandy is right not to cooperate with Erica over these new security measures. She has no reason to keep the other women in line when all the department is doing is making their lives harder for no good reason by tightening up on security and restricting what little movement they did have. Those ID badges are not fastened in a very secure way so its no wonder Meg's fell off, it was hardly her fault. Kate is proving to be a dark horse.....
I have a book that was written by a woman that adopted 12 children and fostered children. One of her foster children, who was Japanese had a sister who was supposed to get a "simple" tonsillectomy and died on the operating table. She was only five.

I would give a kidney to someone. I am donating my usable organs whenever I die. This is one of those episodes where I hate and love Doreen. She is scared because of Kate telling her she could die. And the truth be told, they do put you to sleep and cut you open, anything could happen.
Quite the collection of pin-ups they have in the common room @ 25:04. Doreen was complaining she didn't have any other male inspiration other than Fletch for her drawing. Seems she didn't look too hard.
The two faces of Colleen Powell, is so realistic. How she deliberately pulled out Meg's badge, in front of Davo. She told me that the storylines are similar to our realife, work situations. I worked in a secured area. Lost my badge, that was also a key card. You know the rest of the story.
This was the perfect opportunity for Doreen to redeem herself somewhat, and finally put someone else's needs above her own. So of course she chickens out!
Seen some of the comments here. If you gave a kidney to someone when you were 24 who was your friend, what do you think the chances are that 10 years later they'd still be your best friend? What then if you had a child who needed a kidney years later and you only had one left?
For a change I feel sorry for Doreen. If it was for my daughter, she could have my heart, but anyone else I'd be a bit reluctant about having bits of me chopped out.
Bea was understanding She didn't expect Doreen to do it. Bea's like a mother figure to Doreen. If it was my child and I needed a kidney. I wouldn't want them to give me their kidney
This is a real tough situation for Door to be in. She was really forced into it. She was scared as hell. She is NOT responsible for Bea even though Bea is her mate. Also there is a saying not to let you left hand know what your right hand is doing. That EX doctor ended up being a real bitch to let Coleen get the letter. That action made me angry.

Problembeing Yes, the uniforms (the first uniforms and the second uniforms) were part of the nostalgia as were everything else in the series. 😃 I liked both of the prisoners’ uniforms. The prison officers’ grey uniforms however were better than the prison officers’ future khaki beige uniforms. 😊
Summer21 oh absolutely. I hated the horrid new uniforms. The Freak looked far more menacing and a bit bad-guy-from-40s-Germany, which, with the black leather gloves were (I hate to use this word) ‘iconic’. I don’t know, I just loved the primary colours of the original prisoner uniforms.
I know that everyone thinks Doreen is selfish about the operation, I don't think so. Can you imagine having to make a difficulty decision like that? I mean, you're literally holding someone's life in your hands.

😐I can understand too. If we was is in the same situation, most of us would feel the same way. It's massive big decision. Doreen is scared to death and Lizzy's talk really didn't help matters. I would do it for family or any of my friends but l would be terrified &'scared.
Doreen can be childish at times, but on this one - it's completely understandable. She was backed into corner.
If she had offered of her own free will, then she backed out last minute- that would be classed as selfish. However, it was sandy that said "all the girls will get checked for smith. Doreen didn't have much say. When kate let slip. Doreen felt pushed & pressured into it. Everyone back Doreen in to a corner and they all presumed she would do it. I ain't a big fan of Doreen but l feel sorry for the girl.
I am fully on Doreen's side with this one😐. She's only human and she was bullied into the decision.
They all had to keep pushing & pushing.
Then adding pressure on her. Backing her into a corner. So *** NO *** Doreen is not selfish.
I think I could give one to my mum or sister, or one of my nephews or niece.
Doreen sucks.
End of an era. Bye bye classic series uniforms :(
Problembeing Yes, the uniforms (the first uniforms and the second uniforms) were part of the nostalgia as were everything else in the series. 😃
I liked both of the prisoners’ uniforms.
@@Problembeing Yes. But she did look better in her skirts than trousers IMO.
The new uniforms are truly hideous and unflattering.
It's a shame Sandy wasn't around when Josh was.. She'd sort him out in five minutes
Josh?
'we've scheduled the op for tomorrow' lol, a little bit more notice might help?
i think she means Jock, the screw from Glasgow, who murdered judy's girlfriend and got away with it?
There’s something that has always bugged me. Detective Inspector Grace. Am I the only one who finds his title “Detective Inspector” a bit redundant?
What else should they call him?
Wow the new uniforms are bleak....
Bleak is one word for them... I prefer using 2 words for them... BUTT UGLY lol
I know that everyone thinks Doreen is selfish about the operation, I don't think so. Can you imagine having to make a difficulty decision like that? I mean, you're literally holding someone's life in your hands.
But this is not just some random 'someone'. Bea has looked out for and after Doreen for years.
Nacho Mamma 😐I can understand too. If we was is in the same situation, most of us would feel the same way. It's massive big decision. Doreen is scared to death and Lizzy's talk really didn't help matters. I would do it for family or any of my friends but l would be terrified &'scared.

If it was someone else that was compatible but refused to do it, Doreen would be giving them hell. She does that a lot.
especialy hard when you have a brain the size of a pea
God I cant stand Doreen.
Lol Doreen's ultimate revenge on Bea for when Bea sat back and allowed Margo Gaffney to smash her face into the press and made her nose bleed!
A completely normal life in prison? Oh, please, doc! Cmon Doreen, have the operation. It's no big deal. Powell should buy stock in talcum powder! Dispose of the bull!
