Great video. I installed 3 of these in the past and it all looked familiar. Installing one now (11 years after this video in 2024) and it looks like the mounting design has changed dramatically on these....SO HAS THE PRICE! Just a note for anyone looking at this that the new Larson security type storm doors look like they mount slightly different. I'll likely take a video of that full install and post of course instead of just running my mouth on this guy's great video.

I have to install a storm door for a client tomorrow and I was terrified, until I watched your video. The last time I installed a storm door was about 30 years ago and it was a freaking nightmare. You've given me a level of confidence that I can actually get this done competently. Thank you.

What an amazing tutorial. I have had two contractors out to install my door, and they have failed tremendously. I knew all along that I could do it, but my shoulders are in bad shape. lifting the door is going to be a challenge, but with your video being so precise with each step, I know I will get it done! Thanks

One of the best videos. I like your candid comments. They're honest and real. You seem like just a regular guy, whose willing to tackle a job he's never done before. That's why I like your video. I can relate to you. I'm not a handyman by any means, but watching you do it has given me a little more confidence about doing it myself rather than spend $200 to have a pro do it. Thanks.

Great video. Unless you are a builder/remodeler that installs these doors frequently I don’t think it can be installed in an hour. If this is the first home you have owned with PVC trim I’ll say now that you are gonna love it forever and ever amen. Thanks for posting.

Wgat was good about your video is the fact that you go step by step and actually show basic steps, which alot of men dont they skip through things. Good sense of humor and because of you I am going to install my own door. Your front door is very nice, good creativity and color.

Great video. We have almost the same door, but it's a double door. The only thing I don't like, is the top drip edge. It was too short and water still gets in under it. We are going to install a Pemko rain drip edge, that comes out 2.5" and curves down better. Love your sense of humor and glad you didn't shatter it and cut your hand off!

  • @billfeliciano341

Excellent instructional video. I would, however, like to point out two items of contention. You said your door only weighed 1200 pounds but mine was at least 1350!!
Also my door was one that you could hang for either a left side hinge or a right side hinge, so the holes for the latch hardware needed to be drilled. Five holes...with template...no big deal. The instructions for the latch were very clear and installation went very well. People who can't read might have problems with it though!

Really great video and very easy to follow too. I'm kinda like you and haven't installed one before. I bought the Larson's Tradewinds with glass and screens at Lowe's. Maybe now I can finish getting it put in. Its been sitting face-up on my front porch for a few days now. Instead of holes close to the top on each side, it has dimples but I suppose they probably are in the right spots. Anyway thanks a lot for the help.

So I just installed my 32X80 Larson door and went to close it to check swing and it is short. The door is only 31.5"? So the box stating 32" means that it may vary from 31.5" to 32"??? Help me to understand if you can. My opening is 32x80 and the old storm is 32x80. Now what do I do? I took it back down and put my old one back in. I only get one day off weekly and now as proud as I was of myself....I have nothing to show. ugh Advice? Suggestions? I didn't know that I had to open the box before I bought it to make sure that the door was a true 32". They won't take it back because I already drilled holes. Shame. Help?

I had to use washers as shims behind the strike plate to get the door latch to hold and even with that the deadbolt latch won't latch because it doesn't line up right and I'll have to grind out part of the strike plate with a dremel.

FPV is really fun you should go for it. I really like it along with flying my rv helis also :-). I put the door up last night and it turned out great. I made it light on my self and installed the glass after I hung the door ;-). Thank u again for posting your video. Be blessed

Patrick from Spokane, Wa... Well this is funny, Im glad to see someone else is just as insane as I. I purchased exactly or very close to the same door w/ speak easy, only difference mine doesn't have the elaborate hinges showing. Finally installed it in my new house, took me 6 months to get around to it. Then "the storm Door" issue...
I bought a Larson Signature in Black to match the teak door as much as possible. Black lantern porch light as well. I assume Im into the Black theme as my first impression to my home. If nothing else Kim Kardashian and I have black in common as a favorite color.
Knowing full well even as the storm door is getting installed that it is going to detract from my teak door and its initial impact... Nothing can be done about it though.
I noticed at the end of your video your completed installation which looks good...
The Larson Signature has pretty good features when you consider its price, fortunately there was a sale for 15 to 20% off during the July 4th period 2017.
If I still lived in California, I would say "Storm Door" what? Would have saved myself some money and cold winters...

I think I have American Indian in me. When I need it to rain I don't have to do a rain dance, I just wash my car or start a project on the outside of my house. Works every time.
