      I have lost my instructions paper for my Larson door installation. I don't remember if space between the left and right door trim has to be 36 inches for a 36-inch door, or if it can be 35, 7/8. Can you please tell me,

    Pretty decent video and thank you for posting it. The video along with the directions helped me get this door installed. All door openings are different, and I had to end up extending my threshold for this door to install properly, but that wasn't Larson's fault. I've never done anything like this before, but slow and steady did the trick. Now it's in and works and looks great. Thanks again for the helpful video.

    @cactuszachk Thank You for watching. Are you talking about the plastic strips that cover the screw holes? If so there is a part of the video that shows the way they should go in. There is only one way they go, once you get it you will see how easy they zip into place. They also need cut to fit, if they are long they will give you trouble. If i didn't answer your question send me a picture at craigheffernan@me.com. I hope this was helpful.

    Good video, but a couple of areas glanced over. I installed a Larson on the weekend. No mention that you may have to adjust the Latch rail so that the door closes against the frame properly. Also, I spent more time installing the handle hardware than I did doing the whole door!
    The 1/2 & 3/4 " holes were not big enough & I had to file the openings. The door handle assembly was by far the most aggravating part of the install.

    To remove the existing storm door start by removing all the screws on the face of the track. Then remove any screws from the jamb side. Removing the storm door should be easy enough without a video, just unscrew everything. Thanks for watching, Craig Heffernan

    @tigelou The strike side gives you enough room so the dead bolt and the latch clear from hitting the edge of the brick molding. How ever if the strike side ends up being tight to the brick molding you may have to chisel out to relieve. All the Larson doors i have put in never needed chiseled. I hope this was helpful , Craig Heffernan

    @gamecocks92 Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply. The strike side should be snug up to the latch end of the door with an 1/8" space. if you are putting the strike side tight to the brick molding and it is giving you a large space between the door and strike jamb you must move it over to give you an 1/8" reveal or space. You may have to add a small wood filler piece to the edge of the brick molding. In some cases the wood filler has to be cut tapered. I hope this was helpful.

    Thanks for watching. There are a few items glanced over, always refer to the instructions for back up. Larson also confirms the sizes of the 1/2 and 3/4 drill bits. You may have experienced the holes were not aligned when you drilled them. You need to make sure you fold the paper template on the edge of the door. Use a center punch to mark exact centers. And drill the 4 holes. Use the accuguide to drill to the other side. The holes should be positioned properly with no filling.

    I have a Larson storm door (Model 830-14) that only came with 1 closer. I've had numerous times where the wind blows and yanks the door open when you go outside. It ruined the original closer. I've since bought a new closer and added a chain at the top. Would it have been better to put 2 closers on vs 1 closer and a chain, or does it really matter? The door is on the side of my house that is flush to the exterior wall.

    Larson secure elegance door. 80 tall 36 wide. it will not open all the way due to an overhang. if we go with a shorter storm door, say 79x36, what type of door jamb work will have to be done to accommodate the shorter storm door. would we have to cut the current door on the house too? (by current we mean not the storm door, but the real door that is currently on)

    I have installed a lot of Larson doors on our homes - simple. But we have a brand new home now (for retirement) and the front door has a factory made, wood, one-piece "Door with inset sidelight panel" with the sidelight on the latch side of the door. The sidelight section is separated from the door section by a wood frame divider that is not the same depth (1/2 to 3/4" deeper) as the outer Brick Mold framing. How do I mount a storm door in this type opening?

    • @oldarkie3880

      You need to add a filler to the latch side of the door frame. Have the builder do it if it's truly a brand new home.

      You may have to maintain 36" all the way down the side of the door frame. I usually remove the trim molding on the outside and cut it to maintain that 36" space. You may be able to trim it with a circular saw in place, be careful it takes skill.

      It creates a buffer between the inside of the house and the outside weather. In the winter, it keeps the inside warmer and the heater doesn't need to work as hard. That means, a lower gas and electric bill. In the summer, it keeps the inside of the house cooler, and the air conditioner doesn't need to work as hard.

    • @Deckbuilding
      @Deckbuilding  9 лет назад +1

      +RUDY MINOR Hi Rudy, you may be missing the bottom u channel that attaches to the bottom of the storm door. The u channel also has the rubber seal strip to get it tight to the main doors threshold.

    • @rudy6222
      @rudy6222 9 лет назад

      Is that the silver part? If so I have it but it's nearly to the bottom of the door so I can't screw it to the door and it's still a gap

    • @richb7414
      @richb7414 9 лет назад +2

      +RUDY MINOR sounds like you should have bought a taller storm door. Pella makes some that are almost 84" tall. These Larson one's are for standard 80" openings and allow up to 82". If your lower threshold has a steep angle for run off, this would require taller door as well. Depends on door installing on.

    The video is good. The background music is not so good. The background music is distracting.
