Is it ok to add stitching (machine quilting) to the bag so that the fabric and batting holds together rather than puff up after washing bag? I like your method of constructing the bag. Thanks.

I don't see why that would be a problem. Just make sure that you're using 100% cotton thread so it doesn't melt or scorch in the microwave.
