Those buses...your very brave Linh, it's hard to know what they'll be like. I took one last month from San Jose Costa Rica to Perez Zeldon...it was comfortable, at night on a windy road so, kinda fun. Then I took a more local bus to Uvita and it was sweltering hot, the seats were hard and it was so packed I thought, "how could this be legal?" 😮 Next month...Drake bay...hope it's not a chicken-stile bus! I think headsets are in our future. Emma did such a good job at staying cool and went into Captain mode like it was second nature. We're so grateful to her.
Great job Emma! You'll have to "keep that ace up your sleeve" - "Hey mum & dad do you remember that time I stopped the boat from being destroyed well ... 😁
I did mentioned in the past that having Emma being trained for autonomy in case the worst would happen, was important and I think you guys knew that anyway. This is a fortunate example of why everyone onboard have to able to hold things on their own.
It is a wonderful thing that Emma is learning on how the boat works in all the area's... Good job Emma for not only saving the boat you saved your home!!!
Nice vid. I was born and raised in the Panama Canal Zone. Went out a few times from Port Bello. Isla Grande is nearby. Then San Blas. Had a blast there when we used to camp. Small outer island in the Holandes Cays. West side. Indians would let my dad stay there. (He lived with them as a kid). And the rain. We would call the heaviest rain, chocosana. White rain in Kuna. Rain so hard you could hardly make out the bow of your boat if your were at the stern.
Great story with a happy ending 😊 Lessons learned? Like I would tell my staff when they said, “We have a problem, Sir…” there are no problems just opportunities to learn how to do it better next time.
Fantastic job Emma! Glad you "popped up" at exactly the right moment. For what it's worth, my Admiral took a "pinch hitter" course on learning the boat in case she needed to if I wasn't able. It's saved us a couple of times in weather, her knowing what to do. I'd bet that your dad and mom are going to be teaching you the systems to be sure this never happens again. It can be really frustrating and panic-inducing to not know what's going on, or what to do about it. You showed your line-handling skills in the canal transit, and now you've demonstrated your cool-headedness in times of trouble. You could be crew on anyone's boat any time you want.
Wow Emma--way to go saving Basik from shipwreck!! Keeping a clear head during an emergency is the key to survival. Nice job girl and you've learned something you'll never forget...the engines are running even when you don't see the the amp meter move right away.
So glad nobody was hurt and you guys kept SV Basik from dragging into anything. Otherwise next week we would have been watching a salvage operation. Hopefully this will probably never happen again. Did the anchor flip over or do you know?
Emma, staying calm under pressure. Best thing you can do, but not many can. Sign of confidence and experience. Next time it will be easier and you will think even clearer.
Wow! You three have been through some scary times lately! I was already worried about Linh traveling alone on that bus ride. Then the ending was even more traumatic. My goodness! So glad the ending of your story was a happy one. Just everyday things can go South really fast, can't they? You were on the ball Emma, so glad you have been part of the team for quite a while now, you knew just what needed to be done. Praying for all your safety, from here on out. From my vantage point, it seems like you guys are on a vacation trip much of the time, but whether it is a boat or living in the States, life is not easy for any of us right now, it can get downright frightening can't it? Hope you all have a much better week ahead.
@@tealgoben1781 This is true, but I never thought I'd hear that from you....even quoting another cruiser. It's all good. It caught me by surprise and then made me laugh.
Awesome video It had a little of everything. Linh adventures On the chicken bus. A terrifying rainstorm. The drama Of Dragging anchor. While Emma left alone Took charge and save the day. Teal another amazing video. Great job crew, you all stay safe and have fun.
There is not enough words to describe Emma. Here are a few: She is smart, beautiful, hard worker, funny at times, level headed, polite and the list can go on and on. Today she was a HERO. Stay safe.
Just goes to show what good training will do. Everyone kept their cool and waited until after Basik was secure before getting excited. Congratulations crew on a job well done.
Wowowowowow! What an exciting episode. As it was Linh going to the dentist was out of the norm. And being on a chicken bus was over the top for excitement Then to find out what Emma was going thru it was like a walk in the park compared to her. Great job Emma. I think you will have the capability and smarts to do anything you want for a career
Great job Emma! You saved the day. I think you’re due for a promotion. At least a safety award 🥇. Teal and Linh you have one courageous and smart daughter!! I need an extra rum ration after this show!
[Sung to The Beatles, Ticket to Ride] I think I'm gonna be sad, I think it's today, yeah The steel that's holding my boat is giving away We've got an anchor to ride We've got an anchor to ride We've got an anchor to ride, but it don't hold
In seas flat our CQR is holding its ground, yeah It seems that it will break free when squalls swing her 'round We've got an anchor to ride We've got an anchor to ride We've got an anchor to ride, but it don't hold
I don't know why it's riding so high It ought to set twice, it ought to do right by me Before it gets to saying goodbye It ought to set twice, it ought to do right by me Oh, we've got an anchor to ride We've got an anchor to ride We've got an anchor to ride, but it don't hold Our anchor don't hold Our anchor don't hold Our anchor don't hold
Wow, what an incredible episode! 🌊 Emma truly showed her strength and quick thinking during that unexpected squall. It’s amazing to see how she handled such a serious situation with such grace and courage. Kudos to the entire Onboard Lifestyle crew for sharing this thrilling and inspiring moment with us! 👏🚤
Kudos to Emma.I've been in the same situation before and you handled it with absolute perfection. Mom and Dad should be happy that they have taught you well.
Nice work Emma. Nothing worse than dragging anchor in a storm. You did what needed to be done to save your boat and home. I’ve saved boats in Monterey California in some really strong winds running outboard engines. It’s not easy. looking forward to your next video.
I had a dog, Buddy, that was somewhat unique. Thunder, fireworks didn't faze him. There was one evening a super loud thunder just shook the house, he was laying on the kitchen floor sleeping and his only reaction was a twitch of his ear. Every other dog I've had would either shake in fear, or find a hole to hide in. I will give one tip that's worked with most other dogs. If you have a laundry room put them in there, turn on the dryer to 'Air' and set it to the longest run time. The dogs would be calm enough to sleep and I could even leave the door open a crack and they'd stay in the room. If you don't have a laundry room and room away from windows (if possible) put on some white or pink noise. There are long videos on YT with them. Just turn up the volume.
Being on the East Coast during the hurricane season is like being on a Roller Coaster but more dangerous. Emma did a good job but Teal might want to install a light to show that the engine is running to avoid the 45 second gauge start up lag. All of you are great sailors and I'm glad that everyone is safe and the boat not damaged. God Bless
I drug anchor. We were anchored in mud. Apparently the shank was not laying on the bottom due to the stiff mud. In drifting around, the chain made a half hitch down at the bend of the shank. So when we were in a rain squall like yours, the anchor tripped easily and we went through the anchorage. I had to get the anchor on deck, with enough chain slack to undo the half hitch before re-anchoring. I hate hard mud. You did great. It’s hard to convey just how disorienting it can be in those situations. Again, Great job
Wow Emma! Fantastic job in keeping your cool. So glad that Teal was able to get back to you and your buddy boat was there to help! Heart-stopping craziness! 👏
Great job Emma and the guy from the buddy boat!! When we get his name give a shout out! lol Take away from this is knowing the engine is running, maybe Teal can rig an LED indicator that it's running if something drowns out the sound in the future 🙂 Yes 2 way radios could come in handy for even boat to shore when you have no mobile signal. OR get a couple bullhorns lol (the ones with sirens so you can warn other boats) Great save!!
Hats off to Emma for the way she handled things. Whoever taught her how to handle a boat did a great job. Glad all of you and the boat came thru everything so well.
