That Terry Funk impression will never cease to make me laugh. I’m hoping an ECW ‘97 PPV will come up soon so we can get the Terry impression before a moonsault. “I’m gonna backflip now”
It always amazed me how their rivalry easily transitioned throughout the years, seeing as how it went from blue chipper vs. blue blood to a DX/Nation faction war to Rock being an army of one against the Corporation/Corporate Ministry and the McMahon-Helmsley regime. Their in-ring work together was always flawless, though, which made for enjoyable viewings.
Goddamn I just found out that the Iron Sheik has passed away Life dealt him a lot of blows, but he got back up every time. He suplexed and put it in the camel clutch...RIP Sheik
@makaveli4205 Especially, whenever what with life on the road for about 80 percent of a year. They're not guaranteed to see their families and subsist on food from fast food chains and diners. Not to mention the copious drugs and injuries many have.
I always like to imagine that the only reason why the Dungeon match even happened was because Stu Hart had some renovating in the old basement planned, so it didn't matter if they did more damage to the room. Also, I just want to believe that Bret was there to see the match in person & was just behind the cameras, and after everything was done they all went back up & had lunch, or something. I can easily imagine Ken Shamrock going "I'm kind of hungry now, after you put my head through the ceiling".
This will always be the best PPV of all time for me... and Sable had nothing to do with it. My dad took me to this show as a reward for nearly getting straight A's my freshman year of high school (he was very glad for the one A- so he could get out of SummerSlam in New York). He got us 2nd row behind the time keeper. It was the only trip we ever took without the rest of the family. He passed away 364 days later.
16:48 🤣Z Man…Deadass…it took me moments to realize why you put Woody there. That has to be your go to cut-in gag for the Attitude Era for King ALONE! That’s gonna be the new “Christian’s Nuts” Cut-In for sure!
Happy 10 year anniversary Brian, I been a fan and listener for 6 of those 10 years... Wrestling Without Regret along with Off The Script and the Solomonster, they're shows I listen to the most, this show being NUMBER ONE of course ✌️
Undertaker's new theme is also one of my favorite memories from this PPV. I actually met him 2 weeks prior. The theme for this PPV was cool too. No summer has replicated 1998 in terms of the back & forth competition. This was an EPIC time to be a fan.
I mean my thing is this is for an actual impression that I can only assume was okayed by all beforehand, so idk why it’s made into such a huge deal tbh. And I mean ppl consider hhh’s black face too.
The fact that all involved from the nation were ok with it, and weren’t offended, should make it ok to air. Why do we feel like we have to be offended for other people? The people, who in Brian’s mind, should be offended (I.e. African Americans) are not. So why is Brian? Or anyone else for that matter.
I was at this show. It's literally the only pro wrestling show I've ever been to. Also 97ish 98 was also when I got hardcore into wrestling. I was also 13. We didn't have cable so I had to watch the shotgun Saturday morning clip show. I live in Southern Oregon now and still can't afford to see wrestling live.
I feel the same way about X-Pac, D-Lo, and the European title. I was such a big X-Pac fan. He was my favorite member of DX. His action figure was one of my favorites. I played as him in the N64 games probably more than anyone else in the games because it was so satisfying kicking people in the face, hitting the Bronco Buster, and planting them with the X-Factor in every single game.
I love it when you review shows from early in your wrestling fandom, because even though we’re about the same age we have very different perspectives. In 1998 you were still getting into wrestling, whereas I got into it as a little kid at the tail end of Hulkamania. I was already becoming a jaded and cynical fan at the ripe old age of 16 thanks to things like the Montreal Screwjob, meanwhile you were looking at wrestling through the fresh, innocent eyes of a kid who hadn’t yet experienced the Dungeon of Doom or King of the Ring ‘95.
Wow, I can't believe you didn't show the clip of Bradshaw giving Scorpio one of the best Clothesline's From Hell on the outside. It's actually one of the most memorable moments of the show for me, the way Scorpio sold it was insane lol
Always felt Val Venis was underrated. Good look, solid worker, good on the mic and a beautiful Fishermans Suplex. Always loved the way he sold DDT's too.
Granted Val's pornstar gimmick was hilarious and it was super over at one point...but yeah i can't help but think the gimmick hurt him a bit. He was great in the ring
Yeah, the issue was the character had a limited shelf life. Once he tried to transition into other character's he just never could. Whether because of bad creative or lack of personal ideas, who knows.
First off rest in peace Iron Sheik you are absolutely missed.. Second I got emotional seeing this only because my father bought this Pay-per-view on VHS back when that was still a thing.. it was fun watching this once in awhile and keep in mind he was very stubborn about cable. I miss my father and this Honestly made me happy. I really am glad you reviewed this.. ❤❤❤❤ It made my year.. Thank you Brian 😊😭
3:54 he didn’t have a Yankee cap on, it was a cap talking about Hideo Nomo, who was a star pitcher for the LA Dodgers. guess since they were in Cali, he thought it would fit in 🤷♂️
Congratulations Brian. I have been watching for pretty much the entire 10 years and you have provided me countless enjoyment and entertainment and as a fan I would personally like to thank you so much for all that you do. That said is there any chance we might see you in the new ROH?
"Listen.....Listen" I forgot I used to quote that, but I thought I got it from Dice Clay...or DMX in Belly. Makes sense it came from DX. As for the blackface, the Wayans Bros. killed it playing WHITE CHICKS. And Downey killed it in Tropic Thunder. Sometimes I guess it just works.😂
Mark Henry and Vader started feuding during the King of The Ring matches where Henry came down and did a big splash on Vader outside the ring to help the Rock advance to the next round. The build was only 2 weeks though
Tbh I didn't realise there was a Funk/Bradshaw vs Faarooq/Scorpio match on this card 😂 Thanks for - as always - the trip down memory lane Z-Man, even though this was one of the poorer PPVs of an otherwise stellar 1998
Hey Brian, great video. Not sure if you have already, but a Vader in WWF video would be really awesome. Vader could have been a multiyear main eventer but wasn't and a dive into why would be really cool.
Unforgiven 2004 is gonna be an interesting one mostly for the wrong reasons. Orton losing the world title a month after winning it, the infamous Richards/Tomko match (btw I dunno what's up with him rn but hopefully Stevie's doing well in his health rn), Jericho/Christian ladder match for the vacant I.C. Title, a really solid opening tag, Kane/HBK No DQ.
Thanks for the memories Sheik. You were the heel I loved to hate. I also agree about the blackface thing. Although I do have the uncut videos of that Raw and Fully Loaded, especially the Jackie accidental exposure. I always thought she was hotter.
I remember clear as day. We would record all ppvs back during this time and my mom changing the channel. And the reaction of what are you doing, we are recording this
At this point i think Brian is picking shows with Funk on the card just so he can do his impression lol
I'm here for it!😂😂😂
And I need fir him to continue to do so. His impression is top notch
He should have taken the money! 😊
It’s maybe the funniest impression any wrestling RUclipsr does

I swear I think he already did barely legal but it was before the impressions
@@justinkongglang7080You would be correct as Barely Legal was Brian's third-ever classic review, all the way back in 2017.
@@chrisbreezy3048 I thought barely legal seemed familiar but I didn’t think to check the archives.
He did a horrible job with the impression.
So the running theme of this show was "When the Undertaker is not on screen, everyone should be asking, 'Where's Undertaker???'"
King: When are they gonna get to the -fireworks factory- bikini contest
"Awww sh*t! It's movie day in class y'all!" at 11:51 got a laugh out of me 😂
Terry Funk impressions will never get old.
It's been great to see Brian's Stone Cold impression evolve into its true form: a Terry Funk impression.
Everyone remembers Rock vs Austin, but Rock vs HHH consistently delivered great stuff too. Underappreciated as another memorable Attitude Era feud.
Backlash 2000 main event is what WrestleMania 2000 should've been. It gets overlooked because of that.
It always amazed me how their rivalry easily transitioned throughout the years, seeing as how it went from blue chipper vs. blue blood to a DX/Nation faction war to Rock being an army of one against the Corporation/Corporate Ministry and the McMahon-Helmsley regime. @@chrisbreezy3048well tbf the feud was real
They pushed each other to be better for sure. Love their rivalry

The Dungeon Match is one of my favorite Shamrock matches. The spot where his head goes into the ceiling is hilarious.
D'Lo is the greatest European of all time.

I've heard & read that the renovation theory IS true.
@@FlyBoyEnterprises They were gonna renovate the place anyway, why not trash it in front of cameras and make some money? It's very Pro Wrestling.

Brian Zane's 5-Star Rating System has much more credibility than Dave Meltzer's 5-Star Ratings.
His AEW ratings don't seem so authentic.
