BG Music:
My brother Dan was the drummer and produced this album. Unfortunately he passed a few years ago in Belize
Dan Van Patten? I'm so sorry for your loss. I had no idea he had passed. Just looked that up, and that happened back in 2013.
Anyway, _Pleasure Victim_ is such a great album.
Sorry for your loss,They we're Great!!
I'm so sorry
Wow, sorry to hear that. Pleasure Victim is one of great hidden classics of the 80s. Brilliant!
“No more Words” and “Dancing in Berlin” are both BANGERS!
Dancing in berlin is awesome
They are still performing. I saw them recently. She is still absolutely beautiful and can still sing like when this came out.
I always wanted her hair. Could never pull it off.
@@laurakali6522 🤣🤣 It's hard to get close enough to famous people to do that. You know, bodyguards and whatnot.
That’s nuts 🤯✨
@@brettkenschaft4239 haha, didn’t realize how that post could be taken.
@laura kali Glad you liked it! I wasn't sure how you intended your comment but it made me laugh out loud thinking of it the literal way. I'm kinda weird.
Berlin - "No more words", T Pau - "Heart and soul.
This new wave and synth sound is unbeatable!
Boy, did this song get play on MTV and VH1 over 40 years ago! Super new wave band,.. The whole Pleasure Victim album is Fire.. Wonderful reaction..
I saw Berlin in concert in 1983 when this song was in the charts. They opened for Roxy Music. Berlin burst onto the scene in 1982 with their hit "Sex (I'm A...)", which they followed up with "The Metro". Check that one out when you can.
I honestly think this is the most animated I’ve ever seen Brad react to a song! Good reaction guys!
Berlin is one of my favorite 80s bands, and I've always loved Terry Nunn's voice! Thanks Brad and Lex for briefly taking me back to my 80s Club days. 🎶❤️
I saw these guys with Thompson Twins in Saratoga NY in 1984.
Talking Heads, Berlin, and Blondie back to back to back. Why can't all 80s streams be this great?
I was on that stream, too! lol. Lot of bangers and variety that night.
You are right then we got 3 new wave punk bands in a row. Cool. OMD and Roxy Music were close on polls, too, they'll get them later.
how did I miss this? in my top 10 favorite 80's songs. loved Berlin. if you like this song, check out the live audio version from the album sacred and profane. hard rock version.
Berlin, Metro specifically, is one of the main precursors to techno, which is now EDM.
As a teenager in the 80's, I had a big crush on Terri Nunn. About 8 years ago I was working security at her concert and got to meet her. She was a total sweetheart!
The lead singer is Terri Nunn. Interesting fact, she auditioned for the role of the iconic character Princess Lea in the first Star Wars in 1975. You van find video of her somewhere on RUclips.
Lived in Paris awhile, could not get this song out of my head. Great chorus.
One of my favorites from the 80s. Love re-experiencing these songs through your eyes. Well done! Highly recommend Pleasure Victim.
That was my favorite song by them and it was the first on I heard.
I loved Berlin back in the 80s. They put on a good live show too
Don't need drugs for new wave music to enjoy it 🎶 . It's naturall fun dance 🕺 music.
The lady who sang this is a vampire... she has barely aged in 40+ years.
Such a perfectly constructed song! Always felt this song and Romeo Void's "Never Say Never" are wildly underrated
Props for remembering Romeo Void 👍
Not to mention Romeo Void's entire catalog. Big girls get no respect.
@@MusicMissionary The fact that Deborah Iyall wasn't model material made me *more* interested in them. I figured she must be REALLY talented
@@roncarnes5724 I never fully checked them out until recently. I had them pegged as one hit wonders - because she got so little studio support. Now I think they rank right up there with the great postpunk bands.
I have the same bias btw. I don't trust "hot" singers not to be industry plants. There aren't that many Deborah Harrys out there.
I always associate Berlin with Missing Persons (Southern California bands) and Romeo Void with The Motels (Northern California bands).
Each of these female-fronted groups had heavy airplay on KROQ back in the day.
MASCARADE is a MUST Berlin Reaction !
I love Berlin ! Terry Nunn's voice is AMAZING ! Infact she still sounds Amazing ! You should check out their song, No More Words. Fun fact : Terry was considered for the part of princess leia , in Star Wars.
When I used to drive my kids to elementary school they would fight in the car over whether we were going to listen to this song, No More Words, or Masquerade that morning.
I, too, love Berlin! Yes, please, more Berlin reactions. Terry as Leia might have been too much awesome-ness all at once. I might have blown a circuit.
I would've totally voted for Terri to be Princess Leia. She really is a good actress.
@@dennis2966 Harrison Ford and her didn't get along. I'm glad she didn't get it, because her acting career was taking off, and she'd never have been asked to front this band. Dave and John had a good sound, but with them singing, it just didn't work or stand out. She changed the way the lyrics were sung, made them less mechanical, and much more sensual. It completely changed their sound.
Have you seen her recently? Pretty sure she is a vampire. She looks about 30, but is 61. It's freaky!
'Pleasure Victim' (single)
'Heartstrings' (on Spaceballs soundtrack).
Brad & Lex, you’ll love their "Sex (I'm A...)"!!!
Great call!!
Oh...I've always loved, these synthesizers, on this one.
Klaxon horn, fading into distance (the Doppler Effect, and Red Shift stems, from this concept), being emulated.
Such atmosphere. For such a pop group, this was very Subway Punk leaning. Wish there were more, like this.
Classic 80s new wave sound all the way
I remember dancing to this at the club back in the day
I’ve always enjoyed this song. Just some great new wave/pop/synth music. Brings back my teenage years when I saw them in concert. Still love them!
I love love love this song
One of my favorite 80's songs, never seen another reactor that I follow do this one. Loved it!
This song is so very 80s New Wave. Great times.
Saw them in a club in Phoenix, Broken English opened for them. That was late 80’s I think.
80's synthesizer 🎹🎹🎹🔊🎶🎵
How interesting that you just reacted to this one... Those two were a longtime couple, and apparently just broke up. There's your Thursday trivia for you. Rock on Kidz. ☮️🤘
I'm 49 and listened to Berlin since I was 10. And the singer Terri Nunn is still stunning to this day in her sixties. And she gave up a lucrative acting career to be a singer. Beautiful voice and multi talented. And timeless beauty.
Another great upbeat song from that same album is “Masquerade”.
The Metro and Masquerade for whatever reason don’t get the love they deserve. Two hot 80’s tracks. Awesome that you hit The Metro.
Berlin is one of the best groups from the 80s
The new wave invasion of the 80's.
Yes! More Berlin!!! Recent stuff is great
First time I heard this song, I was listening to my Walkman on the airport tram in New York
Berlin played on an "80s cruise" recently. The band and the lead singer Terri Nunn did an outstanding performance. And Terri who is now 61 still looks gorgeous! Check it out: ruclips.net/video/dLTXqGbOA_Q/видео.html
Also check out Human League - Don't You Want Me on the 80s cruise, they still sing great! ruclips.net/video/qilqSsZd-PM/видео.html
Oh yeah 80s new wave the birth of electronic music!!
This song is on my playlist. Watched the video of this 1982 hit as a tween, so catchy!
Thanks for the review. For a treat look up Berlin/Terri Nunn doing a cover of Bowie's Suffragette City in Tokyo. Her performance energy is formidable. In their early days, Berlin appeared on an variety show hosted by Joan Rivers, and Terri Nunn wore just panties, a very flimsy top, and high heels that had Ms. Rivers eyes bugging out.
The beat mimics the sound of riding on a train.
This is my favorite 80's dance/synth-pop song! I love the sound of those keyboards! And you're absolutely right about that beat!
Terri Nunn had the rights to the band and told ex-boyfriend John Crawford that it was by her rules if he wanted to stay in the band even though it was him who started it. They broke up and Terri Nunn continued the band with other musicians. VH1 got them together in A Bands Reunited. Afterwards John Crawford and Dave Diamond joined Berlin again. The Bands Reunited version about Berlin are on RUclips. Worth a look
Great band! And Terri Nunn is fantastic! Some more great songs by them: Masquerade, Will I ever Understand You, and You don't Know
Old MTV tune. Always loved it.
Berlin best song is " No more words "
If you like the pace, of train rides, and synths, you might like the Italo-Disco group Wish Key, and their track (no pun intended), "Orient Express".
Metro is a Trans Club across the pond. It was also featured in The Crying Game.
I wore this record out back in the day. This was at the height of New Wave and 14 year old me couldn't get enough of synthpop. ❤
No More Words is another good song by Berlin.
Bach's Goldberg Variations Glenn Gould 1981 BMV 988 live
Not a huge Berlin fan since Metal is my way of life. Having said that, you should check out "Masquerade". It's such a great song; filled with a sensuous melodies.
I think you should definitely listen to their first semi- hit, “Sex, I’m a…”. I think Lex will love it.
I've always liked this song even requested it and for some reason I always play kids in America afterwards and I don't know why
I always had a crush on Terry Nunn.
A very young Terri Nunn Auditioned for the part of Princess Leia.
She read with Harrison Ford.
BERLIN, love The Metro
A lot of reactors have done Berlin, but I don't think I've seen anyone do Metro. It was their first mainstream hit. In the song, she is on the train thinking about the ex that she left back in Paris. She's emotional and things are kind of a blur, but she remembers that there was a soldier sleeping next to her on the train. He had nothing to do with her story per se, he was just a detail, like the London rain.
Another great 80's reaction guys! If you liked this one from Berlin, may I suggest "No More Words" by Berlin as well?
Could not get more 80s, except maybe A Flock of Seagulls :) For that background synthy sound, check out Tommy Shaw (of Styx) Girls with Guns. Even the updated older version where he played with a high school orchestra backing him. It is here on youtube.
They did a great acoustic version of this song on an album called "80s Hits Stripped." It had a bunch of other amazing acoustic or simplified self-covers by the original bands, including 867-5309 and The Stroke.
This is my favorite Berlin song and one of my favorite 80's songs. Check out another great one called "Sex" . Berlin was always on the radio during my High School years
I've always liked this song of theirs so much more than that "Sex" song that got all the airplay. The video was really cool when it came out in the '80s, too.
Remember you can't spell terrible without spelling Terri. Dave Diamond was a great key boardists. Crawford wrote great songs.
80's music! your guy's heads were bobbing the entire time.
Yes they were!! 😅
No More Words. With the official video.
Hey guys what's up! In the 80s was a Metalhead. But I always loved the quirky NuWave stuff. Bands like the cars, Kajagoogoo, Duran Duran, Men At Work. And Berlin was one of those bands. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
This song is so 80's!! It sounds like the song that was playing at the dance club in The Terminator movie.
80s new wave. Great stuff.
In the early 80's on MTv, everything was tried as far as musical sound. Great time to be 16!!!!!!
Yes I totally agree with you we had such fun times back then as a kid. I miss those days now more than ever before.
never knew this was berlin until just now. i always thought it was blondie.
New wave post punk I was a teen in the 80’s and more of a rocker but my brother was more into this sound always liked this song and No More Words….plus everyone in creation knows Take My Breath Away from the original Top Gun movie
I like this one, "No More Words", "Take My Breath Away", "Masquerade" and "Now It's My Turn".
They were so cool in the 80s...
I loved this the first time I heard it. When they got popular from "Take My Breath Away" I was like, what the hell happened to the trippy electronic band? System Of A Down did a cover of this song.
Now It's My Turn.
I'll be seeing John Crawford and his current band, Band 47, next month. They're the house band for Star Trek The Cruise.
The chord progressions of this song were a huge influence on Devo's 2nd and 3rd albums
DeVo had 4 albums released before this song came out. If anything, it was the other way around.
Um. . . what? This came out after _New Traditionalists_ , which was DEVO's *fourth* album.
The 80s was so weird! 😂
I look back and laugh but they were the best.
This is 100% New Wave and it's 100% Awesome!
If you liked Berlin Check out the motels
wait til you hear the SoaD version.
let's get a covers stream going 🍻
One of my all time favorite 80's songs!
LOVE this song
Lex is adorable!
You're a lucky man, Brad
👊
Awesome song by Berlin
Brad was so engaged with what was going to happen with that gun that I burst out laughing with him when it ended up being a cigarette lighter :)
No More Words is another great song by them.
Ahh, one of my favorites!
I've never heard the original here before now, but I love the System of A Down cover of this!
Ugh. I just listened to System of a Down's version. It is awful.
@mournblade1066 I like the Alkaline Trio cover better.
ruclips.net/video/YvEWjOjiHzU/видео.html
@@mournblade1066 Awful because it’s different, and not a carbon copy?
@@chairenthusiast1981 No, because it's aesthetically awful. Utter. Crap.
Gotta love the 80's. Synthesizer was huge back then.
Illicit substances and dance all night. The best description I ever heard of the eighties.
I love this song!
New Wave. Teri Nunn is an incredible talent. Their US Festival performance in ‘83 is epic, and can be found on here.
I enjoyed this version of Berlin more than the one we got on Top Gun.
