  • Now that the Humber is practically finished, it's time for a new (little) project. This is the build of the 51 yr old kit from Revell, with simple mods from plastic card and filler but no aftermarket. In part one we look at assembling the F.1 engines correctly, making the insides look better and improving the CSM.
    A great beginners video for dealing with seam removal.

    I don’t know why this kit always scared me but I just ordered it and I will give it a try. It’s time this 52 year old faced his fears!

    I built one over 30 years ago as a young teenager. It was in the era of the Space shuttle and the dreams of space travel that that presented to the 80s generation..

    Excellent stuff Nigel, perfect for someone who hasn't made a kit for over 30 years! And believe it or not i just purchased this kitset 3 days ago after watching the Apollo 11 Doco a week ago. I'm looking forward to rest of your series. Thanks so much.

    I built this kit shortly after it was released and wish I had thought of the plastic card to improve the look of the engines. Oh well, it was relegated to the trash bin many years ago now. Great video as usual. Keep it up Nigel.

      Trash bin? No,no,no! The real fun was burning or blowing them up. Kids., you know.

    I had one almost like this one, the one I had used solid rockets and it flew with parachutes to recover it, lots of fun, back in the late 60's.

    A Flexi-file wirks really good with those types of curves on the Service module.

    What the...!?! No one said anything about math! Pi? Circumference? Degrees? I just wanted to build a model, not fly the damn thing to the moon. Thanks a lot Nigel von Braun! I’m joking of course. Great vid as always.

    I once built an air fix saturn 5 model a long time ago

  • @michaelbenjmitchell1
    @michaelbenjmitchell1 5 лет назад

    Nigel you can probably replace the engine bell ribbing with thin gauge wire. that way you can fill the seams on the outside of the bell and use the wire to recreate the ribbing.

    They are called Vernier nozzels. And you can recreate those with stretched sprue.

    Nigel, in one of your episodes here you had trouble with Vallejo paint not drying. I have discovered this myself. How did you get the goopy stuff off you model?

    Nigal question l understand what your doing with the card but if your going to paint the inside of the booster any way would not get the same resolt with smooth painting?

    Hi Nigel!! Do we need to wash the particulat before use it?

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  3 года назад

      Well, normally I would say yes.. but on this occasion you will be handling the parts so much that it's best to degrease the parts once assembled before painting.
