  • I use Testors spray cans to paint the black portions of the model and my airbrush, which is a Badger Patriot 105 to paint the Service Module and Command Module. I apply a coat of Pledge to put the decals on. Once the decals are applied, all engines are mounted, and the model is finished.

I just did this one. I am preparing for my 350th Star Trek Enterprises.
Found a good trick to get clean lines on the black patches. Basically just paint it white, then mask off, paint one more layer white, this will fill in the gaps in the masking tape (But as it is the same color, it won't show) then paint black.
I also found it helpful to use an adhesion promoter spray

Its interesting that the patches aren't exactly in line with each other. They both have a different scheme

This model was introduced in 1968. Not long before the Moon missions. Apollo 8 had already orbited The Moon in 68’, but the Lunar module wasn’t ready yet and didn’t participate in that mission. That came with the Apollo 9 and 10 missions - and off cause with Apollo 11, the first actual Moon landing.
There must have been pictures of the Lunar module available before it actually went to Space since Revell was able to design this scale model as early as in 68’.

Patent designs were probably available. Same reason the model of the space shuttle was available long before the first flight to space.

    Nice work!
One detail though. I think the piece connecting the second and the third stage is supposed to be glued to the second stage.
I don’t have the instructions from my own model anymore but that’s how I remember it.
It’s correct that the piece connecting the first and second stage is supposed to be removable from both stages. You can see that on old films too. After they disconnect from the first stage they get rid of this piece😊

Hi Ari, you did a great job building this model. I think your airbrush is putting out too much paint. The spray could be a little finer. This is a majestic subject and you did a fantastic job. It makes me want to build one again! Thanks for sharing with us. See you next time.
