    Great build!!!
    Apollo 4 did have the American flags, but no operational Saturn V had the USA decal on stage 3.
    The Revell decals and painting instructions most closely resemble the Facilities Test Vehicle mock-up… though that one didn’t have the American flags.

    Phew, mate, I watched this whole build series non-stop one episode after the other, I really enjoyed your approach on seams and the fact you took your time to explain the finer details during construction.
    I've just bought a Revel 1/144 Saturn V 50th Anniversary kit and I'm going to use this series as a guide for my build. I'll try your interlocking tabs approach on joining the tube halves together as it makes sense to have a solid foundation when working on the seams during the sanding stages as sometimes I can get a little heavy handed applying too much pressure against the surface.
    Fantastic build and a great video series.

    I think you're selling the completed model short. Granted, it's not a highly detailed kit but it's what you make of it. You took a turd and polished it up quite nicely. That's easily a "3 foot" model. Besides, if nothing else, you may have sparked some interest in early space modeling. I know I'm interested now. And thanks for turning us on to the Vintage Space site. Now, on to the Lancs! (and maybe a certain U-Boat, hmm?)

    I was about 13 during this era. I was a Trekky already. Star Trek fed my imagination. One episode dealt with an Apollo Rocket. The internet is so perfect for modelers. I did my rocket models in the 70's. I like modeling Sci Fi, WW2 & 60's aircraft. Hence, this is where my Alclad interest comes from. Many aircraft were natural skinned. The B-52 / X-15 kit still intrigues me. Too big to physically want. But, if one of you guys on line built one up on video, that is why the web is so awesome in scale modeling. I could live builds without increasing my stash or built kits. Private moments are a big part of my memories. Doing a video & speaking during a build is a horse of a different color. I appreciate the videos. Thanks.

    Always satisfying to complete a model and this one is a great example of what can be accomplished with some forethought, and in your case Nigel, considerable modeling skill. Great work Nigel, I throughly enjoyed the build, and as always with your videos picked up some new tips on how to not just assemble a kit but create a great model. Looking forward to seeing the next step in your space shuttle. Thanks again mate. Also nice to get a look at a peek at your bench, mine I’m afraid is organized chaos.

    Great video. I'm building Airfix's 1/144th Saturn V, which is a hell of a lot more accurate than Revell's (especially with New Ware detailing set), and your video is very useful for me. I haven't modelled for years, and I'm a relative novice at airbrushing, so every bit helps.

    Just finished watching of this build series and Nigel you've done great job with all those seams etc and rocket turn out beautifully.
    But as I am looking at that rocket I'm wondering why Revell didn't put those seams on stages under locations of fuel/oxygen transfer pipes and didn't made those pipes or fairings as separated parts (as they did with those staging rockets) and put them over those seams.

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  4 года назад +1

      If it's an old enamel paint, use oven cleaner. Modern acrylics are best removed with a 50/50 mix of dettol and water but this can attack the plastic.

      @@joburg76 if it's paint that old,, give the oven cleaner a try first. put the parts in a bag, spray in then oven cleaner, swill it around so all the parts have the cleaner on them and after 24-48 hours rinse in cold water. Make sure you protect your skin and eyes.

      I've just re-read your question Matt.. I would use the VMS as a filler in small gaps, but as a back up for joint strength, Sprue Goo is the best bet. Think of it like welding two bits of steel together as opposed to gluing them together..
