during december before school started, my mom would come pick me up late and i'd be standing outside school, the last person to leave the building, in the snow, at night while playing pokemon pearl. i watched as the snowflakes melted on my screen, while i explored around snowpoint city. the music made me feel warm and cozy, like i wasn't standing alone on the sidewalk in the cold waiting for my mom to come pick me up. it was great
Perfect song for January. It's an absolute FROZEN WASTELAND where I am right now. This song gives me a little comfort, though, as well as memories. This was my favorite city back in the day. Funny thing, I actually didn't get to this part of the game until the winter months, so it was very fitting. :)
I live in eastern CA the sierra area wich gets really cold even colder then the east coast so I can relate to listening to this during winter the snow gets super deep also
I have this weird tradition as someone who lives in Northwest Canada, when the first snow of winter falls I step outside, bring this theme up, and just stand outside… in a t-shirt… just listening to this… my mother got me Diamond as my first Pokémon game for my 7th birthday and I’ll never forget the memories and getting frustrated my first run not realizing I needed to go confront Cyrus at the peak of Mt. Cornet and run around Sinnoh with zero clue what I was doing unable to progress😂, good times…
Diamond was my first main series Pokémon game. I got it when I was I was only five or six years old and I still remember this town perfectly. I would let my character just sit there at the bottom of the map where the snow was really deep and listen to the music. My Diamond game is lost now (luckily I traded my Torterra to Platinum), sadly, but the music will always help me remember.
It's kinda weird to come to this song and see the tiny comment section. Comments from 4 entire years ago are here. Gives me a funny feeling in my stomach.
Every second, this game gets older. Those seconds add up. Eventually, they hours. Hours become days. Days become months, months to years, years to memories. You know, having the God of time in this gen is actually pretty fitting.
This song man. I would lay down after getting home from school open my ds go to snow point and slightly close my ds and sleep with those shitty ds heaphones. Man this brings back so many memories. I wish i had my original copy i had so many good pokes. Sigh...
@Voidrising It’s creepy because of the dissonance that the melody has in the beginning. BUT, the beautiful part about this song is, the chord progression resolves at the end, which turns the whole music from creepy feeling to a relaxing vibe music. It’s sort of like looking at one part of a creepy painting but as you zoom out more and more, the more you realize that the story of the painting is actually very very beautiful. This is one of the most beautifully composed music in Pokemon diamond and pearl, in my opinion. Take a listen some of pokemon’s other songs too if you haven’t already. All their music is so greatly composed, and what blows my mind is, all of those songs fit so perfectly with the context of the game!!!
@@andrewsugono4832 this is a great breakdown of how such a simplistic and minimalist song can be amazing if done correctly. This song really doesn’t have much, but the dissonance that resolves makes it absolutely great.
Ah, this song and Diamond brings back so many memories from when it first came out. It was my first Pokemon game, then I played older versions (red, blue, yellow, ruby, sapphire etc.) and newer versions (soul silver, heart gold, platinum etc.). I remember when getting the new Pokemon game first out of your friends was cool. I used to fall asleep to this song every night. Then my brother started doubting me and said I couldn't get to Snowpoint city and I did and shows him how. Oh the memories..
By far my favorite. Used to hate it until I fully listened it. I would stand in front of the Pokemon Centre and just put my DS aside and listen to it for like 10 mins. Ahh great times
For me it's my favorite city in all of the Pokémon games. I love snow, i love quiet places, i love trees and forests, i love calming music, this town has it all.
This might be my favourite theme of any city in all the Pokémon games. When you encounter this music for the first time, you’ve probably just come off of a long trek up route 217 and the soundtrack mirrors that coldness, loneliness, and apprehension in those kind of spooky first few notes. However, as the music goes on, the warmth of the little town in the snow starts to break through that icy exterior and this jolly upbeat rhythm suddenly picks up and it changes the mood entirely! I don’t know much about music theory but I love this so much.
This game... Was my first pokémon game, my favourite franchise today. I haven't got the oportunity to replay the games yet, and I don't remember any song from when I was a child. The magic of this thing is that only when I play any random track (mostly iconic routes, places, cities or the bike music) memories invade my head, making me go back to the easier years. That's why I love this game's soundtrack.
I was on a trip while playing this. I was at Hearthome City when I set out, and when I arrived here (at night in a time zone 3 hours behind) I was sure I wouldn't survive the trip home. But then I got to Sunyshore City and knew I'd make it home. Which I did.
this theme just shows that you gotta take a break sometimes, from all the adventuring and all the Pokémon battles, from all the fast themes, but not too often. shows the next city theme, being sunyshore.
This song is a perfect way to capture "snow" without any images Quiet, chilling (intended), calming.. The only thing missing is the sounds of the gentle breeze and the crunching of snow.
Listening to this for comfort. I’ve long since moved on from pokemon (despite my username) and my biggest regret is not playing other jrpgs. Even then, I don’t mind the nostalgia when I really need it.
You have most people who say they hate the cold, well it's better than heat which is worst for the body than cold. What people also don't know is that yes tropical storms cause alot of damage but obsessive heat kills the most people.
The top comment sums it up perfectly, to know time has flied by so much.. And to think 3 years ago they were here commenting about the same thing, memories from this game from long ago coming back to me feels heart-warming...
@ OMG you found it!! I had actually set a reminder on my device to come back here and edit my comment but I couldn’t find the video since I didn’t put enough info, so I gave up! Hello, it’s been four years and we’re back to this gem!
@mpman412 Ok I agree that Regigigas is highly over rated :| But its my favourite city because 1. My favourite type of pokemon is Ice-Type. 2. My favourite Gym Leader in Sinnoh is Candice. The Snowpoint city Gym Leader. 3. On one day of the year it snows diamond dust ( no other city does that and come on its kinda cool ). 4. I will never know a greater joy than seeing this town after having only one pokemon that has not fainted after the long walk in Mt. Coronet, Route 216 and Route 217
I keep saying that i'll play Diamond next, but another Pokémo game always gets in the way... but i'll get there eventually. Just have to play through PSMD, finish OR and hope that White 2 doesn't get in the way
Remaster version is better! This is boring (it is just the daytime one without the jingle bells) but in remaster they kept the jingle bells and added a lovely piano!
@montecarlo881 But why? There's nothing there except for a gym, a pokemon center, a pokemart and that temple where you get one of the most overrated pokemon in the game :/
The song feels incomplete without the sounds of you shuffling in the snow. It's still an amazing theme though.
I am the first reply after 4 years, and yes, I agree. It’s incomplete, it’s a fraction of the whole song.
2nd reply after 6 years and after a pandemic. Yes, this is still true.
Its now been 7 years since this comment was originally posted, and your statement still stands!
