- Pino palladino, the unassuming Welsh Bass playing legend describes and demonstrates his contribution to the famous Paul Young track 'Wherever I lay my hat'.
Absolutely one of my very favorite bassists.....
both of you legends that have changed bass playing forever
Pino has really laid it down.
Love the finger book!! Thanks for signing it, the one with you and the Trump mask is great.. Putin hangin out in the background
-lol
I've always been in awe of his ability to hear things I wouldn't even dream of. One of a kind.
There’s this bearded dude I’ve heard named Lee that ain’t too shabby either...
He’s one of the fretless players who inspired me to get a fretless bass.
Such an humble fellow... "I thought it sounded out of tune, I was embarrassed." What is not to love about Pino? Love his honesty here.
All fretless players wonder "Am I in tune??"
Only one didn't care. (RIP Jaco)
Jamie Clarke jaco pastorious??

I'm never in tune on the fretless bass. The fretless is such a flexible instrument because no one is ever dead on the note.
'that's actually Stravinsky'
Gold
One of the best basslines ever recorded.
Then there's "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down." Monster bass line there too.
I love the sound of a fretless bass.
Jaco was the man
I have to admire his humility nearly as much as playing.
Pino is THE PRINCE OF WALES... phenomenal talent...

Classic bassist "Oh no, they can hear me! Turn me down!" Awesome guy
My eyes started watering when he played those first notes. Took me by surprise. I always knew I loved this song but didn't know how much. I guess it takes me back to better times. And what a lovely, humble and talented fella Pino is. Wonderful.
Pino's playing and Paul's voice was a perfect match and we don't see that today in music. it was pure magic
I got to see them live around that time and both were masterful. So glad I got to see them together live.
Pino Palladino is for me the best bass player of the world
+pcsp34 He leads my "Emotion" bass category.
Agreed.
Absolutely 👍
i agree.x
Texas voters ! please view Trailblazer classicman.
met Pino in Auckland yesterday, superb chap, legend bass player.
@@mral9974 No, Auckland in Afghanistan! ;) :D
One of the best basslines in history, Pino is an absolute legend.
Wow. Pino is such a humble musician, yet so incredibly gifted and intuitive. Much respect...
A gentleman and for me the best bassist still living.
He's a great guy. It's amazing how often he pops up in the background of some of the best music videos on RUclips. Deservedly so. Just saw him backing Gary Moore's blistering showstopping set at the Fender Strat 50th anniversary gig. If you haven't seen that, it really is worth ten minutes of your day
I was always intrigued with this intro ever since I listened it back in 1983, it has always stuck with me since, thanks Pino, just incredible
Sensational player and a nice guy, what a rare combination. I could watch and listen to him all night.
this is the first time I've ever heard Pino's voice!
This is the sound I’ve had in my head for so long, and when I started playing bass at thirteen I was able to bring it to life! Thanks for the inspiration, you’ve such a signature sound and it’s great to see this. Such a legend!
Crazy how those basslines can stick in your head for over 30yrs. You hear one and know thats Pino. Absolute class !!!!
That is such an iconic bassline. So smooth.
Pino is one of the smoothest out there.
It's his amazing bass lines in "Every Time You Go Away" that's plays over and over in my mind.
same here!
It's what transformed it from being just a Hall and Oates cover.
wow, that fretless sounds beautifulllll..
" wow, that fretless sounds beautifulllll..
"we didnt really know what to do with it. then of course pino arrived..."
Absolutely love it. Such an influencal player, and humble too... magician.
Thanks for distributing this video. I didn´t know the name of this bass player, when i heard this song and decided to learn bass playing.
Now, manny years passed by and it´s the first time, i get an image of Pino Palladino.
Pino Palladino. So Humble. So Versatile. So UnderRated. Love this guy. Some of his work with Tears for Fears: "Sketches of Pain" & "Standing on the corner of the Third World" (among many others). So Phenomenal. Appreciate what you do. You Inspire many. Cheers from NYC.
If you like this sort of bass playing, listen to Jaco Pastorius music with Joni Mitchell, it is so incredibly amazing.
Yes!!! listen "Jericho", the best melodic and sensitive bassline... Insuperable
Hejira
bass god
Clearly if Jaco hadn't existed Pino would have been a very different player. When i first heard him - with Paul Young all those years ago - my first thought was 'Huh, another Jaco clone'. But then who could play fretless bass and not to some extent sound like Jaco (vis early Tony Levin, another of my all-time favourites)? And since then I've come to think that Pino, while obviously not the towering incomparable genius that Jaco was, is nevertheless a musical genius. Maybe if Jaco had had a touch of Pino's temperament - especially his apparent stability and humility - he might still be around today.
MrHestichs yes, Amelia on Hejira
GRANDISSIMISSIMO... This is the most excellent video on RUclips!!!
So great. So humble. Great bass player. Great report. Thanks for sharing.
Pino is a Bass God ! I can pick his playing out of any lineup which is what any bass player hopes for......
It looks like a tv morning show or something. I do not usually go for them but in this format - three minutes on RUclips... man... this was gold. I loved it. Thank-you so much for the upload.
Just found this and glad I did. Great video! Thanks for posting.
Humble musician, Good to see and hear the man not just a face with a bass. Good luck brother
mr. pino is absolutely a smooth master bass player. blessings to you sir!
Absolutely LOVE this guy. Pino is a MASSIVE inspiration.
Fretless bass, that takes some serious skill, incredible bassist, definitely one of my favourites.
He is the bassist ive heard best things about. EVERYONE ive met who has played with pino always has the highest praise. I remember people saying pino knew exactly where everyone in the band was going, and he could anticipate it like no other. Trully a genius bassist.
Amazing but humble bass player and and such a pleasant human being !
This video is so awesome on all levels!
This is really really one of the greatest that ever done it..In my opinion..
Keep rocking
perfect cut at the end!
+Andrew Tregoning Her face! *LOL*
His bass sounds amazing
One of my very fave bass lines ever 🤩

I've always loved this bass line by Pino. And of course Paul did a pretty good job, also... ; ) One of my favorites!
This man is such a great musician. And I would give anything to have that sound!
I was blessed to see him live.Brilliant.
What a lovely guy and such a feel for the music
"I'll never get any other gigs" HAHA! Great interview, thank you for posting :)
I just want Pino to come round my house and play his fretless stingray all day.. What a player, what a sound.
I remember hearing Tear Your Playhouse Down - I was mesmerized by the bass - I was in love. That love stuck with me - all the way to Berklee at 18 and beyond.
Had the pleasure of meeting him in Toronto. A very nice man !
Like any of the greats, humble and genuine. One of the best bassists of the last 40 years.
Saw him play with The Who right after John died. He was right there with the band.
Same. Saw him shortly after he joined and he didn’t have much time to rehearse. He and zack were tight as hell.
One of my favorite Bassists!!
Tellement humble, en plus..... Quel talent !
My favorite bassplayer!!!
the first time I heard it I fell in love with the song, but especially with the bass track. I think it was the first time I listened to a fretless bass and to this day I have had in mind Pino's incredible work.
Pino really cemented the potential that Fretless Bass has in Pop music in my mind.
Felicitaciones Pino Palladino, sos un monstruo, saludos desde Mendoza, Argentina
No bass line before or since has so immediately affected me. Still pure brilliance!
Classic reel-to-reel recording method. Awesome mate😦🫡🇧🇳
Pino's playing is always instantly recognisable. Fabulous musician. I love his work with Joan Armatrading.
Indeed. Some really fine work on Shouting Stage. In fact, the intro to the title Song is classic Pino. And then he goes into that fat octave sound, and it literally sends chills up my spine.
yes, one of the finest bass player, Bravo Mr Pino
Gotta love Pino, hes an awesome fella and very kind too
Stravinski was a mean bass player too.
I have a fretless bass because of this guy and trying to get that sound. He's such a soulful bassist. One of the most underrated out there.
PINO PALLADINO uno dei più grandi bassisti di tutti i tempi. Gusto stile e suono unico. Immenso . Un vero prodigio della musica. 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻✨✨✨✨✨💫
Very cool upload, thanks for sharing!
👍🙂I love his work with Julia Fordham, too! Fantastic!
I love her 😍
One of the best bass performances ever. And he was embarrassed....dear Lord!
It's a Kind of Magic. Wonderful!
What a man! A total inspiration!
Pino is right up there! He's got the lot! Didn't know he doesn't read the dots! So intuitive with his melodic groove playing!
Such a nice guy! GREAT player. 🙏
The Look head a ball got at the end was perfection. What a knob head
If those are real, i'm in LOVE!! Also, Pino plays an awesome bass.- playhouse being my favorite tune to rock out on a fretless. Genius, all three of them!
If you can touch them, they are real enough!
Magic, Magic I love this music to this day.
The greatest musicans dont need to read music...just feel it!!
Beautiful, what a fine bassist he is .
She is delightful and he is a master
Two distinct memories of fretless bass in my life, this song, and life in tokyo by Japan,so iconic!Listen to Wonderland by Paul Young ,great Palladino bassline too!
absolutely the prince of the bass, a great one
Love it sinds i first heard it. Pino paul young. 🤟🦋❣🔥
What a great bass player and such a sweet interviewer.
One of the few musicians on the planet where you only have to hear a few notes - and you know who's playing...
and who would dream that a some random women presenter would truly appreciate this subtleness in his style of playing.
Thank you very much for this upload - it made my day.
Carrie Grant is a highly sought after session singer in her own right, so she definitely knows what she's talking about...she's no random presenter! :)
Wayne Matthews Cheers Wayne - Indeed - What a great character. More power to her.
Pino Palladino gave simple nice songs a metaphysical seasoning that made them eternal.
Greatness never sees greatness in their own work.
magical sound
Great guy, so humble
Being able to play by ear is the greatest gift. If you hear something great in your head (you compose), you can immediately PLAY it. If you have a mind that invents new/better bass lines prolifically, you can jam like a god.
He is a gift to bass players
PINO PALLADINO IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD , GREETINGS FROM ARGENTINA !!!
Such a nice guy, with so much talent, and absolutely no trace of the arrogant rock star
Pino was brilliant and I can hear Jaco in there too! Totally amazing players.
A true humble person. Instead of feeling proud that the intro was included, he felt embarrassed cause he thought it was out of tune and he was worried he's going to get another gig. It's the opposite though, that intro made him an famous instantly. He got more gigs after that.
All musicians think there rubbish - Yes, you nailed it - expecially the very good ones like you. You aren`t!!!
Very Special Sound' s. .. Great Musician ... ☺😊😀/💙💙💙/👍👌👏 👋
How do you find a wife, that appreciates bass like that?
I have one. You can borrow her if you like, lol
This guy^^^^
+kevbelz Find one who plays bass, I guess?
Well, I think it would probably start with being able to play like THAT. Pino is amazing
A.I.
Probably one of 100 top pop songs evee made!
