Thankyou Sylvan! I never got the pleasure of using the 9Baro back in the days of Kilian and Suunto but always wanted to try it! The ambassadors edition always looked so cool! What do you think of new UI? Has it been improved?
Greetings México! All the best from the UK 🇬🇧 Victor. I definitely have a bias towards Garmin due to using them for about a decade so when i started reviewing the 9 Peak Pro I sold the Enduro 2 to fully dive into all things Suunto. I must admit my favourite feature about using Suunto was their app. More reviewers should talk about how awesome the app is if you’re serious about training, it definitely kept me motivated at a time when I was struggling for motivation. I also liked the build quality of the buttons and the fact that I smashed this watch against many surfaces, took it skiing, went bouldering and after 3 months still couldn’t see a scratch on it 👏🏽 Definitely pros and cons no matter what watch you get these days 🌟
The last Garmin I tested was the Forerunner 165. Lots of rumours now on “The5KRunner” talking about a Fenix 8 and Fenix E coming out soon. Hoping to try these out next month 🙈
Hey William! Yeah, the compass bearing feature is 🔥. I need to actually use it though because so often in hiking/running I ‘wing it’ only to regret it later hahah. 🧭
Sleep tracking is based on movement alone. If you take off your watch during your sleep tracking window, it's going to be read as sleep. It's better to disable sleep tracking until you put it back on. I can't confirm this (needs more field testing), but I think that if you put your watch on its side, sleep tracking doesn't start when the watch is not worn.
Yeah it’s a weird one ☝🏽 I know that with a Fitbit, garmin or Apple Watch as soon as you take the Watch/band off your wrist it knows it’s not being worn. There are definitely issues with sleep tracking being based on movement alone and seems like an easy software fix/improvement for any Watch which has an advanced wrist-based heart rate sensor (thereby having the ability to detect if it’s being worn or not). Out of all the brands, surprisingly, Fitbit takes this a step further by allowing the user to track naps. Having this naps feature along with the ability to edit sleep duration entries would be a massive leap for any of these sports-watch companies setting themselves aside from the competition 🌟
Your buddy CJ comes up on the screen. Not sure you want that. Nice detailed break down. It surpasses what the company user guide explains and what I think new watch owners like me look for.
Thankyou for the heads up! It’s hard to record these long videos whilst maintaining as much privacy as possible 🫢 Glad you found the video insightful! Wishing you all the best with your next purchase decision.. any questions, don’t hesitate to ask 👊🏽
Just shipped my refurbished Peak Pro 9 to Finland this week or the service center. Sleep monitoring has already failed. Nervous about this given some of the stuff I have read of other customers saying Suunto customer service horrendous. We will see. They replaced my watch and it still isn't giving me option to conclude sleep function in morning so I can transfer over to App for more detailed info. One guy said you have to catch the option as soon as you wake up or the option to 'conclude ' the event goes away quickly. I will check again soon enough for that tip.
Hey, nice video. Im looking for buy this one or fenix7s. In your experience, what should i buy. I dont know, i feel Suunto 9 peak pro feels more minimalistic, better look, battery and more solid construction. But fenix 7s have music, maps, and garmin pay. What do you think?
If I was looking to keep the watch for a few years I would get the 7s for those reasons you’ve mentioned.. TOPO maps, Garmin pay, music and more touch control features. I’ve also used Garmin for decades so I’d feel more comfortable with it. Suunto would be my option If I was planning to climb Everest in the next few years or do some crazy expedition where battery life and how tough the 9 peak pro is becomes more important! Hope this helps 🌟
Great review! I have a question about the brightness factor of the watch face. Other reviewers say it is quite dim. Of course it is not a a OLED display. What is your opinion? Cheers.
Thanks Mark! 🙏🏼 Yeah I’ve seen other reviewers say this! In all honesty I think the brightness of this watch was perfectly acceptable (maybe it’s been improved since the 9 peak but I haven’t tested that so can’t say), I never had issues with seeing the device and more importantly it didn’t blind me at night. I do have good vision though and can imagine if you’re long-sighted maybe the slightly dimmer brightness (compared to Garmin) or the screen size being an issue. I tested it for 3 months in sun, rain, overcast and the ski slopes and never once thought “I’m struggling to see the screen”. However, there’s no brightness adjustments.. it’s either backlight on or backlight off. So if any of that sounds like it might be an issue or if you’re long-sighted It might be worth looking at the F6X, F7X or Enduro 2. Apart from that the Suunto 9 Peak Pro gets a thumbs up from me especially if you’re upgrading from an older Suunto and know what to expect 🌟
Fantastic video, my compliments! Do you think this Peak 9 Pro is still is valuable mid-range choice for a runner/trail runner? Also in consideration of the update Suunto released for its sportwatches. I love the clean design of this watch. Do you think are there any better alternatives around? Only doubts are about the training function of this watch. What do you think? Thanks for answering
Thanks for the comment! We have a new presenter for this channel called Abie and THIS is her favourite watch.. so she’d definitely tell you that in 2024 it’s still worth it 🔥 We’re uploading her review of this watch in a few days. Stay tuned
thx a lot for your very in-depth analysis!😃 I have a question regarding the altitude measurer and the compass, as these are pretty much the (only) 2 aspects that are most important to my purchasing decision. :) Do both of these aspects function normally without needing to be connected to the internet/ or without having to be connected via Bluetooth, for instance, to my mobile device? I am asking because currently I have a samsung galaxy watch3 and the altitude measurer is a bit awkward - it seems in order to see the current, correct altitude while hiking on a mountain, my watch has to be connected via Bluetooth to my phone, which in turn has to have an internet connection. Don't know if I'm simply an amateur user though overseeing something. :) I just want to be able to get a proper reading of my current altitude without being dependent on internet or any apps, etc. since internet connection is sometimes non-existent while hiking. Would be nice if this is possible. Also, is the altitude visible at first glance when looking at the watch (e.g. next to the time)? Or do you have to scramble through the settings, etc. to find the altitude? Would be appreciate any help. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the comment mate 🙏🏽 There have been so many updates since this video so the 9 peak pro is even better since I recorded this 🔥 YES, is the answer to your question.. this watch is completely self sufficient when it comes to compass and altitude. The battery life is also insane so you won’t have to worry about battery life or phone connections during your adventures ❤️ Hope this helps mate and all the best 👊🏽
13:15 for lock bearing information 🌟 In short, yes you can! Also.. you can decide to lock the bearing from the navigation widget in a more casual setting or during an activity you can decide to lock a bearing too 👍🏽 There’s also a distance and altitude option if you want to target 🎯 an even more precise location. A cool interface with the blue and red directional arrows. Hope this helps Chris 🌟
Brilliant thanks so much, I re-watched again today fantastic review with all the pertinent points. Cheers for the prompt reply. Looks like a great watch. Suunto could have done better with the black bezel ring display. Thinking of ordering just don’t know if I can get use to the bezel. Cheers dude 🤟
This should definitely be possible.. check my Suunto Vertical Navigational Video where I show how to import an exporter GPX file (in your case a file from WikiLoc). Hope this helps ❤️
Great question! I just double checked and it starts counting down from 10 seconds with a small beep and medium vibration. Then on 0 seconds (the end) it does a large beep and large vibration Hope this helps 🌟
Hello! It's me again 🤪 Do you think 9 Peak Pro is still worth buying or not??? I have seen many reviews that say 9PP's GPS is as accurate as the multi-band GPS of many other brands. Do you agree? Thank you
The 9 peak pro is a fantastic watch! I really enjoyed my time in testing it and it was my first introduction into Suunto. That said, having offline topo maps for me is a must these days. If you need naps I’d sway you towards the vertical or race.. if you don’t need that feature and just want great gps accuracy, great battery and a good form factor then the 9PP gets the thumbs up from me 👍🏽 hope this helps 🌟
Cuantos días puede durar la batería con un promedio de 1 hora y 30 minutos al día, con frecuencia cardiaca desde la muñeca y aveces luz para entrenos nocturnos

Best review of this watch on RUclips. I now to switch on. Only just updated from Ambit 2. Not very good for winter sports when wearing gloves. Also strap buckle doesn’t lay flat. Just wish my ambit had Bluetooth. Thanks for the vid.
@dailewis4990 Ahh, thanks for the super kind words mate, means a lot! Sounds like it’s time to upgrade from the Ambit, it’s a good time to be looking at new Suunto watches like this, the vertical and the race all out and heavy hitting 👊🏽 All the best, let me know what you go for 🌟
Suunto 9 peak pro, as far as starting to use it for two days, I think I updated the system and the system got worse. The widget instead of swiping right Then look as you like, set it, there's only one left. You have to sit down and choose one to put in. You can only get one. Still able to brush off many things, it's a pity I want it to be like the old one. ) / The letters are very small. I've used g cross over to say it's small. This one is smaller. / When choosing a time zone, you have to remember how much +/- it is. It's only good, the battery is durable.
Hey mate! Thanks for the comment! I must admit.. I found the transition from the old software UI to the new one hard. In lots of ways it’s better.. but in many ways more cumbersome for sure 🤣 The good news is that software updates seem to be getting more frequent and it feels like generally.. they’re always moving in the right direction ❤️ Anyways, crazy you dropped a comment.. I’ve just released another 9 peak pro video today 🙈 Check it out if you can 🔥
Apple watch is the best for these two features. Alternatively I’d recommend a “Garmin smartwatch” .. such as the vivoactive 5.. funny enough I’m currently testing this one and will have a video out next week 👍🏽
@ArtChock not a massive fan of the Huawei stuff because of how locked down it is tbh. A complete turn off for me. But Amazfit looks cool, hopefully will get to try one of their watches soon 👌🏽
Hi, wonderful review! I'm currently in a deep dive of smart sport watches and damn... the market feels overwhelmed, but I'm considering Suunto 9 peak pro since as I get older I feel more like outdoor's man and this one looks really built for that. I did research and fenix 6 and 7 they are great, but the price is too big for me tbh, considered instinct 2 since its cheaper but it doesn't have as good features and Garmins in general it feels like they added so many features, but they are not fully working like barometer, compass and altitude while Suunto seems to peak in those. What do you think since I assume you had garmins
I wasn’t impressed with the build quality of the Fenix 7s with the titanium body, it seems to scratch and dent really easy. On the contrary the “Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Titanium Solar” is one of the best deals that nobody knows about. I’m talking all the features, TOPO maps & insane battery life! It was also only 60g when paired with a Nylon band as in my other videos. I think this is one of the sports watches money can buy but there is one big caveat.. “current pace” and GPS really struggled with in trees and near tall buildings. I still trusted it (and it worked great) for 50km ultra (check my ‘Ultra X 50km Documentary video) in the Peak District on a course I’d never been on before, kept me safe but was annoying for trying to pace myself during road running. Suunto nailed all the basics, the compass, the barometer, the altimeter AND the GPS was better than my £1000 Apple Watch Ultra. My only issue with the 9 Peak Pro was that I’m a massive nerd and there’s definitely a limit as to what you can do on this watch. It does feel basic and heavily stripped back at times. There is some sluggishness to the UI at times but where it prevailed was the INSANE durability (I mashed this thing every day with no screen protector or case) and it looked brand new after 3 months (running, high ropes job, skiing, bouldering.. the lot). It also has great battery life and the Suunto App is actually fantastic. There’s something “positive” about it. Just made me feel good and want to hit my goals in training. To conclude haha: If you want a high-accuracy training tool with a touch screen that will last a long time get the Suunto. But if you want ‘Next-Gen’ training analysis such as sleep tracking HRV (actually super useful), medium accuracy, crazy amount of freedom to customise the Watch, great battery and TOPO maps get the 6X pro Titanium Solar (it’s important you only get this version of the 6X and not others).
@@ActiveIdeas oh wow! Thanks for awesome review! Yeah will dig into that! Price of fenix 6x pro solar is pretty sexy also, since I though about about 7x sapphire but it's just too expensive tho. 6x has a nice price atm but will wait maybe it will drop lower. What I like about garmins that you can resell watch for pretty nice amount also. But yeah, will think about it. I love the fact that garmin 6x has offline maps and if lost without phone it would be easier to navigate back. My head keeps spinning between those 2 xd
An absolute pleasure! That’s a good point about the resale value, I’ve always gotten a really good amount back 🤣 Might be worth looking on eBay where you could find one of these watches at a really good deal too!
Corr these are wildly different. For gym only I’d recommend venu 2.. but value for money, it’s no comparison, other than the screen and HR sensor the 9 peak pro blows the Venu 2 out the water 🔥 Hope this helps 🌟
Hey Dariusz, sorry for the late reply. I hesitated because I couldn’t remember and I rarely had my phone away from the watch haha. From the best of my knowledge (I recently returned my review sample watch so can’t check) it will not notify you that there’s a phone disconnection. However, you can definitely check if your phone is or isn’t connected to the watch 👍🏽 Don’t take my word for it though as I’m not 100% on any of this😬🤣 Out of curiosity, what would you use this feature for? All the best mate, 🌟
Thanks for the reply so for example if you walk out of home and forget your phone the watch will immediately notify u that the Bluetooth is disconnected. I usually forget my phone, keys and stuff when I'm in a hurry 😅
Haha! Mate, I’m exactly the same always forgetting something as I rush out the door. would definitely be a useful feature.. I don’t even think the Apple Watch does this!? I do have an AirTag though and they’re awesome.. the second I walk out the house without my backpack I get a notification warning 🤣
Thankyou mate! The camera is the older model (mark 1: 1st gen) of the amzn.to/44Gw8yp (affiliate links) although it produces fantastic images and video, it can be a pain trying to shoot hours of RUclips content with it (not sure if they improved this with mii or miii) 🤣 I also shoot on my phone (amzn.to/3VMUfY7) not bad for a base model iPhone. Have you checked out the new Suunto Vertical!?
Heart rate accuracy is okay but I don’t think it’s on par with Garmin or Apple. After all my runs, no matter the speed or duration.. my average heart rate and Max heart rate would be similar if not the same to these other brands and heart rate straps but when you look at the graphs you can see clear delays in it picking up rises and reductions. What this means is that without a hr strap it’s not great for “live” HR, and I wouldn’t pace myself with it but it is good for post workout having your data be fairly accurate 👍🏽 Hope this helps 🌟
Yeah, I’m a die hard MIP screen guy. I won’t lie, I have flirted with the Suunto Race and have absolutely loved it. But since lending the Race to co-host Abie to test and using the Vertical and Peak Pro again I’ve fallen back in love with this screen technology and remembered exactly why I get MIP every time 🔥 9 months later and the Vertical still blows me away with how good its battery life is 🤯
@@ActiveIdeas I wish my wrist would pull off the vertical but I fear it’s slightly too big. Plus the peak pro uses all the same tech just smaller I’m pretty sure and no solar. Nice size watch for me
Yeah 9 peak pro is by far the more comfortable watch. I’d ditch the vertical in seconds if the 9 peak pro had TOPO maps .. I really hope that if Suunto are making a 10 peak pro they bring those features to it 😍

Good information I have also sunnto 9 peak but difficult me to use all function because I am not very good in English because I am Nepali.
Welcome to the RUclips channel! Lovely to know I have Nepali viewers! If you have any questions about the watch please get in touch my friend ❤️
Thank you!
Awh! Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment Florence! Means a lot 🌟
the suunto or the venu 2?? im in a big dilema...
the more important thing to me is the Strength mode (gym, calisthencs and stuff)
Corr these are wildly different. For gym only I’d recommend venu 2.. but value for money, it’s no comparison, other than the screen and HR sensor the 9 peak pro blows the Venu 2 out the water 🔥 Hope this helps 🌟
Hi will this watch give some kind of notification on disconnecting from the connected phone ?
Hey Dariusz, sorry for the late reply. I hesitated because I couldn’t remember and I rarely had my phone away from the watch haha. From the best of my knowledge (I recently returned my review sample watch so can’t check) it will not notify you that there’s a phone disconnection. However, you can definitely check if your phone is or isn’t connected to the watch 👍🏽 Don’t take my word for it though as I’m not 100% on any of this😬🤣
Out of curiosity, what would you use this feature for?
All the best mate, 🌟
Thanks for the reply so for example if you walk out of home and forget your phone the watch will immediately notify u that the Bluetooth is disconnected. I usually forget my phone, keys and stuff when I'm in a hurry 😅
Haha! Mate, I’m exactly the same always forgetting something as I rush out the door. would definitely be a useful feature.. I don’t even think the Apple Watch does this!?
I do have an AirTag though and they’re awesome.. the second I walk out the house without my backpack I get a notification warning 🤣
What is the make and model of the camera?
image quality is excellent😇
Thankyou mate! The camera is the older model (mark 1: 1st gen) of the amzn.to/44Gw8yp (affiliate links) although it produces fantastic images and video, it can be a pain trying to shoot hours of RUclips content with it (not sure if they improved this with mii or miii) 🤣 I also shoot on my phone (amzn.to/3VMUfY7) not bad for a base model iPhone. Have you checked out the new Suunto Vertical!?
How is the heart rate accuracy?
Heart rate accuracy is okay but I don’t think it’s on par with Garmin or Apple. After all my runs, no matter the speed or duration.. my average heart rate and Max heart rate would be similar if not the same to these other brands and heart rate straps but when you look at the graphs you can see clear delays in it picking up rises and reductions. What this means is that without a hr strap it’s not great for “live” HR, and I wouldn’t pace myself with it but it is good for post workout having your data be fairly accurate 👍🏽 Hope this helps 🌟
I hate amoled displays. Big fan of this watch.
I really hope that if Suunto are making a 10 peak pro they bring those features to it 😍
Ah yes TOPO maps I get are handy for sure. I don’t run like you do haha I just jog in town
Fair 🤣🤣🤭
Good job!!!
Why thankyou Karpy!
@@ActiveIdeas Thanks for your videos, today I discovered your channel and it's already in my top 3. Greetings from Spain.
This means so much 🌟Greetings Spain from the UK 🇬🇧 I’m going ALL IN with this channel so hold tight as we’re slowly taking it straight to the top! 👊🏽
Suunto race has amoled display
Yesss it does 🔥
Suunto race looks nicer
It’s hard not to entertain 😉
Same display as suunto 9 baro no thanks
It’s definitely more visible than the 9 Baro
