Thank you for the Elephant in the room. The bezel finally outlined, wish other reviewers would Think as broad as you do👏 btw had mine since it came out, and totally love it. And the new battery is so Good! Thanks for a great review
You're welcome and glad you're enjoying your watch!
Hey, do you still recommend buying the Suunto Peak Pro?
Great vid!
Just got my S9 Peak Pro and am amazed by this small and lightweight piece of tech full of features.
It's a really nice size that they have with it 👍 Thanks!
It feels a bit heavy on the wrist though ...
About to purchase my 9 peak pro. Personally I think it’s a fantastic watch for the great outdoors. And has to be said that Nokia and Suunto are leaps ahead for sustainability then most other major brands, if you care about such things.
A very good point about their sustainability practices 👍 Glad you're enjoying your watch!
It seems ... HEART RATE can't be showed alongside clock on main screen. Ones need to swap left for the dedicated widget. Is that the only option ? 🤨🤨🤔🤔
Good review, I've also been testing the S9 Peak Pro and would agree with your results about accuracy. I'm satisfied with GPS and OHR, although I'm still a chest strap person, and think the interface is very good. We'll probably see more in the future about how this platform evolves.
I am so pleased they tweaked the typography to make it more legible. I hope that will trickle down to the earlier 9. I love my Suunto, but think it is a watch you either love or don't see the point of. Thanks for the great review.
The UI changes are super nice to see 👍 Thanks!
I went to a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro from a Suunto Baro 9 and I frankly miss the Suunto app on my phone - Garmin Connect is over complicated and not all that intuitive at all. I also miss the route planning options of Suunto (apparently not available where I live according to the Garmin app, despite having a Garmin distributor in country and a very active mountaineering community), as well as the simplicity of the device. I also had an issue solo trekking in Nepal where by one of my GPX routes failed to load on the watch when I needed it as the route apparently has too many data points? Not great when you’re in the middle of nowhere. Finally, the reliance on data reception for weather data on Garmin is just not good enough, whereas Suunto relies on the Barometer and wrist based temperature sensor. Needless to say, I think I’m going back to Suunto for a watch with reliability that works for me.
Finally! I was waiting for this thanks Des!
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the review. I’m looking to replace my Ambit 1 (yes, it still works after 9 years of service). I think the quality of Suunto is a definite selling point for me, even while it may have less features than the competition.
Same here with my Ambit3! The fact that they discontinued Movescount and that it's so much harder to pre-program new interval runs for old devices now really has me considering an upgrade.
Same here. Still have my ambit 3. All u need is to update it through usb cable, then it can do what the new watches can, Suuntos r the best 🙂
I've yet to review anything from Suunto. They seem to make great watches and people seem to love this brand but I should probably be keeping my head down and working on my massive backlog here. 😬 Amazing review as always. Thanks for making this one! It was great learning about this Suunto 9 Peak Pro. 🙌🏻
No idea what this whole "backlog" concept is all about 😬😂 Suunto has a loyal following as they've made some fantastic watches over the years. Where they go from here considering their current competition is going to be interesting. Thanks Matt!
Was waiting on this one too! Thanks!
Yeah the elephant in the room is definitely the bezels. It makes the watch look bad. Interesting that the bezels are basically the same size but better hidden on other watches. Thanks for the detailed review!
DUDE! Excellent review.
Thanks!
Great video, thanks, your the best reviewer!
Thanks!!
I think you could have mentioned suunto plus features and guides - it's only starting out, but I suppose it might be a deal breaker for some, adding those precious extra features that some people seek in flagship watches.
I really admire the Suunto brand and would love to get onboard but I just can't get past the dim displays.
I have suunto 9 peak and used it in ironman 70.3 yesterday. Terrible terrible gps traccking. It mesuared the swim 2500 mt and the bike 117 only run was spot on. Thanks suunto for changing the gps module by leaving sony. Great job! As soon as I sell my suunto will buy a garmin.
Garmin is the best.
@ Try Coros and you will Leave Garmin right now. I sold my fenix 7, after I had the Vertix 2
Garmin is the best but only in commercials😂
Why is the GPS tracking terrible?
@@Bruno-en9ud exactly...
great info, thanks, still can't decide between the 9 pro and the Garmin Fenix 7s - the Peak pro costing 350 vs 570 for the fenix..
Good review with real material and content! How about the Battery?
Just bought 9 peak pro for 1.5 days. Heart rate reading is about 10-30 more than Garmin 5 vivosmart in still or slow walking, which I think is align with checking number from hospital.
Damn Des, you bulked up :D
I’ve gained like 4 lbs 😂😂
Bezel super explained. The watch is the best i have had. For me, it's better than Epix 2 or F7, which have nice solutions, a beautiful screen, but they are completely unsuitable in the mountains. (buttons creak at -20 degrees, barometer is a toy) Suunto in the high mountains still without competition.
Wow… is it true bro ?. According to you, which one is better, this Suunto or Garmin Tactix Delta Solar ?. 🙏🏽
@@drales_pical two completely different worlds these devices. I am unable to advise. I only had Fenix and Epix from Garmin. for me the best Suunto 9PP
I was looking for someone with experience with fenix and epix. I need to EASILY download trails for navigation on watch and Suunto seems to fit the Bill and it’s cheaper. I like hiking in the mountains and maps are really important to me.
If maps are important to you, look at a higher end Garmin.
@@Mdogbrown on such a small screen the maps are unacceptable to me. in suunto you also have navigation only the background is black and not nice topo maps like in garmin. It's funny because when I'm running trail these nice maps really bother me. in Suunto, it's easier to have a left arrow to the right, the route is drawn ... it navigates without any problems.
What would you consider the "best" watch overall? If you could only buy one watch, what would you choose in today's time and age?
Hi And thank you for this detailed review. I have a question: do you think that after one year from the release this Peak 9 Pro is still a valuable mid-range choice for a runner/trail runner? In particular, in consideration of the last update Suunto released for its sportwatches?
Do you think this watch has a real competitor out there, now that the price is lower?
Thanks for your kind answer.
Great clarification on the Suunto bezel! Actually, I think a good way to hide it would be similar to what's on my old Suunto Spartan Trainer Wrist HR.. there are line markings on that empty space with hour marks and 5-minute interval marks, as if they're indicators for an "analog hand" watch face to work with. Just like that, the empty "bezel" space doesn't look so naked anymore and is hardly visible..
Maybe these features that are missing can be done with an OS update in future?
How often does the Suunto 9 peak pro read spo2 through the night during sleep? Does it do one before waking up? Thank you.. like watching your program.
I kind of feel cheated a bit, I have always wanted a Suunto watch and finally got my hands on a 9 Baro. I am kind of kicking myself for not getting a Garmin but I just couldn't justify the price. I feel like I should have gone with a Pro or a Peak instead. I like that the Baro screen is larger but lacks in features.
Hey, another 9 baro user here (4 years) with Garmin (features) envy. However, I think with the similar price of 9 peak pro, Garmin is skimping on hardware material, especially screen. No matter how beautiful amoled screen is on 965, Garmin decided not to use sapphire glass and made the screen protrude against the bezel, what the heck. Good software features compared to Suunto, though.
Is there any news of a possible suunto 7 successor?
ill cry the day my suunto traverse alpha dies, 6 years so far and still over a week in between charging : )
Nice video . Is it better than Garmin Venu 3?
Greetings from Turkey, it is much better than Garmin Venu 3
Des the new suunto is coming out 9th may have you seen it yet ?
I have an Apple SE 2022. I mainly use it to track steps, calories and gym sessions (cardio and strength). My problem is the awful battery life. Would this be a good alternative? Regarding accuracy, how does it compare to the Apple Watch?
This would be a stark difference to an Apple Watch. A Garmin Venu 3 may be a better bet.
How would it compare to a Garmin Forerunner 255? Especially for Hiking and Swimming?
Hi everyone,
I am considering purchase between Suunto 9 peak pro stainless steel/ Titan, Coros Apex 2 Pro, Coros pace 3.
I need a watch which is best GPS accurancy route, most accurate distance measurement, best heart rate measurement, best swimming support ( special GPS when I swim at open water).
- Can you should me which is the best watch for me ?
- And does the cover material and bezel is titanium will be better than plastic/stainless steel abbout GPS accuracy and distance measurement results when running?
should I get this as its on sale for 250 euros in my country?
Is it still not possible to calibrate the barometer?
It didn't touch ANY **usability** issues, only "chip performance" ! For a 1st time user migrating from the competitor (Polar) ... I am VERY DISSAPOINTED. "Map" functionality aside, the watch not only feels heavier and chunkier but also comes NEITHER with as many exercise/sleep functions as Polar NOR it is user friendly as, including its HR reading feature is nearly as good as Polar. The inability to display a simple "heart rate" beat from the main clock screen... BAFFLES me ! Can't even customize the list of widgets from the watch itself, contrarily to what the Support/faq-articles webpage says. I AM RETURNING IT !
FINALLY.
Suunto puts a lot of the feature set in the app, at least on Android even with a 5 Peak. And the high cost is also explained by production in Finland with simply high labor costs. And the small carboon footprint has partially been achieved by offsetting to my understanding, which also carries a cost of its own. Agree on your comments about the price point being tough, albeit it comes with quite an easy explanation.
Totally agree that their (great) manufacturing practices impact cost but the prices are still a little tough to swallow when it comes to features.
Will you be doing a review on the amazfit falcon.
Amazfit messed up by making a new watch with an old crappy sensor. The amazfit gt4 is very nice but can’t compare to Garmin when it comes to metrics.
I would be interested to see this watch up against some of the big players like Garmin, Coros, Suunto and Polar. I Have the Trex 2 and it is simply awesome.
Can you pull 10 digit grid if not lat and long?
Does anyone know how the screen visibility on the 9 Peak Pro compares to the 9 Baro? Just trying to get an idea if the screen is substantially harder to read (thinking of something like the original Suunto 5) or if it is similar to the 9B but just not up to date with the legibility of some other recent watches.
Im asking the same question? Have you find something on that?
how do we see battery percentage on iOS app or on watch about this watch?
Any insight comparison between S9peak pro vs Coros Apex 2 pro. Which give the best bang for the buck?
The Apex 2 Pro
@@DesFit Thank you. I have been a Sunnto user for many years. Doing Ultra, my aged Ultra Spartan batt only last 12hrs on full GPS. Hope Apex 2 Pro will be available soon in my country. Locally distributor are offering Apex Pro at a good discount getting ready for intro of Apex 2 Pro.
I've owned three Suunto's. Had to return all three of them for failures. I can't do Suunto again.
What was the failures you had?
Man, I would be buying suunto f they had ant+ alongside Bluetooth. Not ant+ it’s a no go for me. Can’t pair with the iPad and the watch with only Bluetooth 👎 I wish suunto and polar for that matter and coros would realize ant+ still matters for those of us pairing power meters to multiple devices. I would drop Garmin in a heartbeat if any of these companies could just match what Garmin offers. Maps, music, payment along with the basics.
Hey Des, what Terrex top is that you are wearing? L
I am not impressed I got one for Christmas and I have tried to make the backlight. But no luck It is so dim i can't see it even when but it on a brightest setting.
NFC
Hiking and trail map navigation are important to me. I hike in Colorado and want a great watch for that. Can you please point me in the right direction? So many watches. The gpx downloading sounds annoying.
Higher end Garmin watches have full topo and landscape maps which also include the majority of major trails. To follow a route, a GPX file is usually required though regardless of any watch. This Suunto 9 Peak Pro does not have topo or landscape maps and only uses simply breadcrumb navigation.
@@DesFit Thank you! Do you still believe the fenix 6 pro is still a good buy now? The Fenix 6 pro solar is $400 off atm on Garmin website. I was unsure and didn’t know how well it would work given it’s 3 yrs old. The fenix 7 looks nice but is also $300 more
Maps and any hiking features are dear to me. I hope Suunto implements more of these features.
Brother. Im hesitant between suunto 9 peak pr or the garmin fenix 7 ?
May I request you assist me with makung a decision ?
The Fenix 7 has more features
@@DesFit what Im looking for is quality build bro
I had fenix 5s aince 3 years and now the battery is dead and there is no replacement and its discontinued
it definitely looks like the software still lags.
Why do we still have bezels this big in 2022?

Does the GPS on this watch works even when you are travelling inside a car?
Of course
GPS signals can be affected by objects such as the roof of a car so a clear view of the sky is necessary for the best accuracy.
Without maps 🤔🤦🏻♂️
No music? No Spotify? Shame...
not this group of customers. things like a smartwatch or a garmin for occasional sports

Say Suunto 9 Peak Pro again.
They have been sleeping for 1 year😢
All you rewvieers don't put out any end to end content for us to learn more about sleep tracking. Its alwats about running. The watch has other functions and no one cares to show how to setup
Here’s the thing: Suunto is cool until you compare it with literally any other watch. I’ve talked to Suunto owners about my Polar or Garmin watches and even on basic features they say “Wait your watch does that?!”
Edit: I want to like Suunto. Their company seems cool but their tech is not competitive
ask those who train above the average level then you will find out what Suunto is better than Garmin. Apple Watch has even more goodies 😉 Suunto still wins with accuracy and reliability.
@@mojezabardast Uh, I work with ultrarunnners? Suunto doesn’t beat anything from Garmin or Apple these days
@@zfjames in Nepal you can buy Suunto in every shop. you won't buy a garmin anywhere. Sherpas have only Suunto on their hands. I've had FENIXes on my hand since the age of 3. For me, it's an underdeveloped toy.
@@mojezabardast I’m glad there’s a market.
Here’s the real elephant in the room …..Suunto is done! Can anyone say Blackberry ? I don’t take pleasure in saying this as I would like very much for Suunto to be successful but unless you are immersed in their eco system, what incentive do you have to buy this?
Isn’t blackberry into automated driving tech now?
Man, I would be buying suunto f they had ant+ alongside Bluetooth. Not ant+ it’s a no go for me. Dont understand from where hype for Suunto is...they are soo awful. Ive got 9 peak titanium black, 9 baro and spartan. from terrible step tracker, bad display, lagging menu to one alarm and poor battery. comparing to garmin they are just trash.
such garbage and you have as many as 3 Suunto watches? You are Master hehehehe
@@mojezabardast yes. and four garmins.
It’s 2022 and they still have those giant bezels? Smh
bezel is not for fun. u have nice gps accuracy
