@@010MACS I moved from Garmin Enduro, which was great, But in my opinion and for me the Suunto Vertical hit all the right spots for me, I have the Suunto non-solar Vertical and battery life is just amazing. I have clocked just over 700km of running and its been really really good. Navigation is awesome and GPS accuracy is second to none.
I wear the Suunto Vertical Titanium Solar daily since many months and I'm still happy with my choice! No issue with the software. Some new exciting customizable watch faces would be great to add though. Regarding the hardware, what a great looking watch!
Oh I literally hoped for this kind of review. Suunto seems to regularly update this device... with its battery life and design it it really cool watch to pick. Especially when Amazon discounts it to a lower price than the Race.

Amazing watch, moved back to Suunto from Polar and Garmin - can't see myself getting another watch for a long time as it's perfect for what I want - training progress, adventure planning & reliability. It's the type of watch I love more the longer I've had it and can't wait for it to start to look worn (still mint after 6 months)
Which Garmin and Polar did you have last? Why or how is the Vertical better IYHO? I currently own a Polar GxP, and am waiting till the Gx2P reviews are out, but am seriously considering either Vertical or Fenix 7 Pro.
@@gustavahenriksson if you are an MIP guy then Polar Grit X2 pro is not the way you go. Fenix 7 Pro is an amazing watch but still Suundo vertical Titanium edition will be my next choise. I have the Fenix 7 Pro, but i will give it to my brother. Im waiting to see if Garmin for the Fenix 8 will keep the path for the MIP otherwise i will go for the Suundo Vertical Ti Solar.
Thanks for the video. I am about to retire my Suuunto Ambit 3 Peak after putting through a long abusive life of outdoor adventures. I having been researching watches and I am leaning towards the Suunto Vertical Solar (undecided between Titanium or Stainless Steel), because it has all the features I want and looks amazing. This long term review is helpful is seeing how it's held up, software updates, and general use.
Spot on review. Had the Titanium from the start. The only thing I’d add is that creating routes and sending to the watch is best in class - reliable and pretty great to follow too. Bit reroutable as Des mentions. Also, watch faces are probably worst in class. Suunto need to add a face creator page in the phone app - complications etc.
Nope. Same lag. If You scroll down and wait like 10s. its speed up. Like slow awake. I scroll down to last position of menu list, than watch speed up and ui work faster (not perfect). When i go back to watchface and wait a moment, watch slow down again, and after any action (button press) its slow again for a few sec. I sam same thing on video.

Oh, how I would wish to see a comparison between the platforms of Suunto, Polar and Garmin (and Coros)! It would definitely help when considering the jump from one brand to another. really if the upcoming Fenix 8 wont have an MIP display i will pick up the Suundo Vertical Titanium. Very nice watch which has lots of high end features. Just waiting to see what Garmin will decide for the Fenix 8 regarding the display. Unfortunatelly Polar went for the OLED display for the Grit X2 Pro which is not what i was expecting for. Maybe companies must listen to their customers. I know OLED is a very nice bright, clear display with good visibility, but we are athlets, and we are looking for a very nice MIP diplay which is visible outside, and is much nicer with the white backround than any OLED display with white backround, not to mention that it doesnt consume battery when a white backround is chosen.

I have a Suunto Race and own a Garmin 255 Music. The Suunto has a nice build quality, Garmin does a better job in the notifications area and other little things. If I was buying today, it would be a solar edition watch, Vertical or a Enduro 3. I am happy with my Race and personally love the wheel on the right side to scroll through menu's, battery is good, but solar would be nice. Garmin watches just seem like lots of plastic and spending $500 or more it should feel and look like a real watch. I'm sorry don't have a the Vertical to give specific experiences, looks nice though.

Great video. Very well explained. I'm using a Garmin Enduro 2 and it has been rock solid for a year (since I bought it). Of course, not perfect, it had some bad days but every watch has, right? :P The Vertical is a much more beautiful watch but I feel like it underperforms when compared with the Enduro 2. I have the race and love it. But it has been in the market now for around 5 months… and I find I unbelievable that they don’t update it with all the bugs, my ctl numbers has a 1-2 day delay, the running predictions are not showing. Had the watch for 3 months now. I just wish Suunto were more open about their future software plans
Hi Des, great video again. As a long-time Garmin user, I got very used to having routable maps directly on my wrist and use it actually quite often to find my way in unfamiliar areas. I'm wondering why no other company / watches have this. I realise Garmin has a history in maps, but maps can be acquired, right? What's your take on this?

I don't necessarily think the price of the Vertical is OK by any means but being made in Finland with renewable energy as well as the carbon offsets may be factors in the higher cost. It's comparing the Grit X2 Pro with the Suunto Race where the price of the Grit X2 Pro becomes harder to swallow. Thanks!
Anyone heard if the Vertical will be getting an upgrade soon? I prefer the screen and look of it over the Race S but it's hardware isn't as good for the cost.
Every Baro 9 trail runner moved from Suunto years ago, as they couldn't keep up with the release schedule of the other brands. We all moved to Coros or Garmin. Mostly Coros I'd say thanks to their influencer marketing and signing Kilian etc. who was previously with Suunto.

great video! so hard to find good Suunto reviews. just got the vertical solar and love it! however, its not showing all my performance stats like V02max or fitness age. it still says I need to complete 1 outdoor run to get performance insights and 3 outdoor runs to get run estimate insights. anyone else have issues with this? I've completed at least 3 runs already, but have only had the watch for about a week.

Hi What do you mean by “it glitches”? I have an Enduro 2 as well but never had any issues. But, I’m not a long distance runner. I did 12 hours hikes but no issues. I’m just curious. Have a great day.
I had a Vertix 2 and it was a very solid watch. But I find the Enduro 2 more accurate on all fronts. My Vertix 2 delaminated below the glass and they exchanged it with a new one but aside from that, no issues. The Vertix 2 is a very beautiful watch imho, much nicer than the Enduro 2. But I find the Enduro 2 more accurate (GPS and HR) and also the maps and navigation are way superior.
@@clitaiulian4497 mile 86/32 hrs. locked up had to reboot. during the next 72 mile screen kept locking, buttons non responsive, navigation crapped out. Being out on a course you don’t have time for those type of issues.
@@MiWolverine96 I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't had any issues like this but as I said, I don't do long events like these. I think every watch from every brand has its quirks. Don't know what to say here except maybe contacting Garmin. If you look closely online, you will find unhappy customers related to Coros Vertix 2 and Suunto Vertical as well. Some units probably leave the factory in a faulty state. But most of the times it's just software bugs creeping in.

If the Countdown is up it‘s ringing/vibrating the last ten seconds and then a final ringing/vibrating and that‘s it. The alarm instead is ringing 30 seconds or you snooze it.

I made a long distance bicycle tour and when I created a route in Suunto App that was longer than 500 km, then for some reason the track turned out to be annoyingly inaccurate. The whole track was basically created by joining points 1-2 km far from each other. In curvy roads and in cities or villages where there are many crossing roads my route was highy confusing and hardly usable.
@@DesFitI notice you cycle a lot. I’m very interested in your personal opinion of what you think is the current “go to” watch for cyclists ie that can measure things like FTP etc etc.
Using an external monitor isn’t realistic for many so if a watch HR sensor can at least provide meaningful (but not perfect) HR data, that can still be useful
@@DesFit I know I know but, when HR is off, then so as the rest of the data. Rare that I will not use my belt but when I don't, the HR is so totally of the chart it's beyond laughable. I'm not a horse to have my hr at 225bm. LOL

I really like my Vertical Titanium but I have to say that sleep is often 100% which is wrong thing and something that no one talks about but the screen is always dirty even without touching it.

It's still a mess of a watch. Beautiful craftsmanship but still laggy as all hell; step miscounting; HR is atrociously inaccurate and at the same price as a 7X Pro SS, one should never look at this. An alpha-stage product sold as a final one, at the latter's price. I wished, so hard, for Suunto to hit a home run with this watch but alas, it's not there.
Could have something to do with the processor or the speed at which they chose to keep the processor - both could have benefits when it comes to power consumption leading to the incredible battery life.
@@DesFit Yes wish we could choose two modes on watch, performance and battery save. I dont mind to have 2-3 days less on vertical but with faster processor. :D. Like one click overclock

Enduro 2 is the best watch atm imo

The one thing missing from the vertical and the race is a climb pro feature. That's something of a necessity for me these days.

Any sport watch activity should be measure with a HR Belt for perfect score, no matter what the watch brand.
Using an external monitor isn’t realistic for many so if a watch HR sensor can at least provide meaningful (but not perfect) HR data, that can still be useful
@@DesFit I know I know but, when HR is off, then so as the rest of the data. Rare that I will not use my belt but when I don't, the HR is so totally of the chart it's beyond laughable. I'm not a horse to have my hr at 225bm. LOL

The battery life is incredible on the Vertical but I’d ultimately choose the Race, price not being a factor. I’ll likely have a video about that soon.

Unless you need the extended battery life or the sapphire lens of the Vertical, the 965 offers more features everywhere else.

@@DesFit Yes. Sorry my sentence was incomplete with no meaning and the video is very good. In spanish forums are some rumours about possible updates and improvements regarding HR. If so, this is my watch. I don’t know if is there any real about this.

I really like my Vertical Titanium but I have to say that sleep is often 100% which is wrong thing and something that no one talks about but the screen is always dirty even without touching it.

The vfm of suunto race makes it a no brainer, unless you are an athlete or have unlimited budget to spend.

Nice watch but it seems clunky compared to other watches of similar functions and price.
It's still a mess of a watch. Beautiful craftsmanship but still laggy as all hell; step miscounting; HR is atrociously inaccurate and at the same price as a 7X Pro SS, one should never look at this. An alpha-stage product sold as a final one, at the latter's price. I wished, so hard, for Suunto to hit a home run with this watch but alas, it's not there.
No offline music, non NFC payment 😢
Why is it so laggy ?
Could have something to do with the processor or the speed at which they chose to keep the processor - both could have benefits when it comes to power consumption leading to the incredible battery life.
@@DesFit Yes wish we could choose two modes on watch, performance and battery save. I dont mind to have 2-3 days less on vertical but with faster processor. :D. Like one click overclock
