I'd love to see a comparison between Suunto, Coros and Garmin where navigation is started how well it shows you your direction when rotating. The Suunto appeared smoother in that sense.
Quite informative and very handy! My Suunto Vertical arrived yesterday and it is a stunning and exceptional Sport Watch and this video is making the learning curve easier.
Thx, I’ve just ordered mine. Looking forward to use it! Have had a few watches in the past including Garmin, Apple and Casio. This is something completely different.
My 1st experience using it to navigate was mixed. I mainly go off-trail, through the woods and cliffs. Yesterday I chose one of my old routes, and my only option was to "navigate" on it. Near the end I chose to take another route down. After I was 50m off the "old" route, I got a few beeps (probably asking me if I wanted to end navigation), and by the time I checked my navigation had ended, and the activity (which I had actually started before I decided to show the old route) terminated. I really wish we were allowed to put a route on the map for reference, but not have it tied to navigation or an activity. I now realize I could have put much more detailed maps on a garmin 965 (I used to make my own garmin maps); the Sunto maps are about usgs 100k detail. Buyers remorse.
12:00 I would like to load a few favourite MP3s to listen to in a cave: A relaxing Bach cello suite on repeat, something upbeat, maybe something I need to memorise. I'm often on a train through the mountains without net connection and maybe my phone battery is dead.
Only one sensor paired at a time was a dealbreaker for me. Otherwise this watch seemed so perfect and love the fact its made in Finland. But as triathlete only able to pair one sensor is a no go. Thanks for your in depth reviews and guides to educate us before any purchase. :D
Hi, Great video. I love this watch. Unfortunately the hr is not accurate. And this is important for the physical analyzes that the clock gives us. There is also no possibility of using a bolt to turn on the light during the activity, this is annoying. It would also be nice to be able to deactivate the touch screen.
I've bought this watch because my Forerunner 965 has broken glass so I have like 2 weeks to give the Suunto a try, before Garmin come after repair. It's generally speaking awful. Beside the fact it's the most beautiful watch on the market (my opinion) it has so many limitations comparing to Garmin I'm shocked. Steps counter is working incorrectly, sleep tracker as well. In garmin I can choose to see the map and my HR/Tempo or whatever in the same time, in Suunto I can't. Finally I cant even have date and battery level on the main screen at the same time. I'm totally dissapointed and I wonder who chooses Suunto over Garmin if they don't need a battery life of 400 hours.
Hey. great vid. I'd be interested to see a top 5 gps navigation watch video with special consideration to battery life, maps feutures, ruggedness fpr multi day hikes..
You made it as a bit of a throwaway comment: "no smart trainer support" It's sometimes these "little things" that make a device useless for a person (cyclist).
Somewhat. With a smart trainer, all of them also broadcast power concurrently on ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart. So yes, it can connect to most smart trainers, but where it gets messy is if you have another app trying ot control that trainer via Bluetooth Smart. Only the Wahoo (and recent JetBlack) trainers have multi-channel Bluetooth Smart. Whereas something like a Tacx NEO would be single-channel BT and taken up.
Depends on your needs. If you need a smart watch like Apple, fitness watch or want to navigate around the city, go elsewhere. If you are a mountaineer, Suunto in the gold standard.
Hey Ray, great video. The 9 peak pro will let you pair a foot pod and a heartrate belt for running. Agreed it would be nice if they gave you a name snippet or some way to tag a paired device to keep track of what you have paired. Also, on the 9 peak pro it will show you a heart with a belt on the workout setup screen when its getting heartrate data from the belt. I did have to turn off wrist heart rate in the workout setup to see the HR belt connect. I would assume this works the same in the vertical. Anyways, hope this is usefull for someone. Thanks again for the great video.
You accidently changed map style while zooming out (at 33:58 very long press upper button), this 'feature' was removed with the latest FW, so should no longer occur.

Very possible the watch was updated or little exercises done... maybe due to crash too. One way or another VO2max needs like 3 to 5 running/walking activities to calibrate
I've got more than that runs along on it, including intervals and such. While there has been many firmware updates, that shouldn't be dependnet on x number of workouts after a firmware update (and isn't).

the fact that the watch is 0 days old and lags like that is unacceptable. it's lagging like a 4 year old watch... also, idk why the Finnish companies have this fetish against HRV tracking in their watches, but it's mid 2023. this needs to end, and fast
the wifi fuctionality is really really bad implemented. just works with wifis with weak passwords. wifi networks with special characters cant be connected. feels like in the early days of wifi setups, cant believe that this is an issue for a brandnew model in 2023.

In trying variants of long and short middle-button presses, some of them will resort to the top of that widget, yet others will randomly advance to the next widget (and as noted earlier, if you over-press, it goes back to the main watch-face). Yet others still don't respond half the time (weather). Ultimately though, short or long hold seems kinda silly here, when the answer is obvious: Pressing right (middle) should go right - directly to the next widget. I agree Suunto is often very careful, and there are plenty of examples of that in the watch - but this honestly isn't one of them. This is just silly.
@@Dcrainmaker OK... I got you! Indeed some of them go back right from bottom to the watch face. Probably bug - let me report that ;)
Does this watch measure continuous SpO2 while sleeping?
No.
Ray little concerning it is reading such a big difference in V02max compared to other devices?? This is kinda important why do you think this is ?
Very possible the watch was updated or little exercises done... maybe due to crash too. One way or another VO2max needs like 3 to 5 running/walking activities to calibrate
I've got more than that runs along on it, including intervals and such. While there has been many firmware updates, that shouldn't be dependnet on x number of workouts after a firmware update (and isn't).
Is it possible to pay with the watch as Apple Watch?
No
Thank you
🗺 What’s a “transparency machine”? 😉
Is there a Turkish language option
I figured out how to export a gpx. Convoluted.
Cool
Is the solar option worth it?
If you need the battery life, it might be (such as for ultras). Else, probbly not for most people.
This or the 965?
For me 965 because maps have info, but as I ride like to ride my bike on trails where falling is an eventuality ill prbly get this because its sturdy :/
Map without text, wtf
the fact that the watch is 0 days old and lags like that is unacceptable. it's lagging like a 4 year old watch...
also, idk why the Finnish companies have this fetish against HRV tracking in their watches, but it's mid 2023. this needs to end, and fast
Looks like a Turkey 😊
Yup indeed!
If this just would have a Amoled..
the wifi fuctionality is really really bad implemented. just works with wifis with weak passwords. wifi networks with special characters cant be connected. feels like in the early days of wifi setups, cant believe that this is an issue for a brandnew model in 2023.
Bezel is too big and it’s not Amoled so it’s a no from me

Spelling mistake on complete
Doh, thanks! Now it’s…less Completer. 🤣
Why is there chasethesummit in your DMs and not Des? :(
It’s literally just the DM that came in as I was shooting. 🤷🏼♂️
He only accepts nudes.
