Thank you for this upload 👍 42 years already. Shows the 80s is getting older by the year. Not one of Blondies best, but enjoyable. Elstree is based on the BBC (UK broadcaster) studios where EastEnders is filmed. Excellent debut from Spandau Ballet. Ian Dury was always enjoyable and his legacy lives on. Probably one of the worst Christmas #1s until LadBaby happened with St Winifreds School Choir. Sorry for this. Surprised Devo weren't bigger here. Stray Cats is one of my uncles favourite groups. 'Stop the Calvary' is an interesting Christmas song. 'Flash....aaaaaaaaaaah' - come on its Queen and it's amazing. Freddie could sing the alphabet it'd be perfect. Lovely duet with Barbara and Barry. Should have been a bigger hit. Ottawan, all their songs sound the same. Specials - one of the best ska groups in the UK. I'm going to say this, but John Lennon gets the Gold (Happy Xmas The War Is Over, probably my fave Xmas song and should have been #1 that Xmas) silver (Imagine) and bronze (Just Like Starting Over). A shame he was murdered. ABBA close behind for bronze with The Specials, Eddy Grant and Queen.
(Just Like) Starting Over, the lead single from his comeback album Double Fantasy, entered the chart at number 30 in the first week of November 1980. In the last week of that month it peaked at number 8,before slipping to 10 and then 21 in early December. One of my best friends at school was a gigantic Beatles fan,as was the Swedish girlfriend of one of my other friends, and while we were all shocked they were particularly devastated at the terrible news. My Dad described it as "a real downer". Following the tragedy of his killing the single went directly back up to number 1. Happy Christmas (War is Over) and Imagine entered the Top 40 at numbers 4 and 9 respectively in the last chart before Christmas (which was also de facto the last chart of the year in those days). Those two John Lennon/Plastic Ono band songs took over the top two positions in the first chart of 1981,and the early charts of that year were dominated by Lennon and Adam & the Ants. Did you see Paul McCartney's tribute to John in his set at Glastonbury in the summer this year?
I didn’t realise Jim Davidson had a record released in 1980. He is known for his comedy acts, although he is probably not in fashion anymore because of his politically incorrect comedies.
First time I saw him was when he used to make regular appearances on shows like ITV's The Comedians in the mid/late 70s. In the earlyish 80s my driving instructor, who had a decidely non-politically correct sense of humour (which suited me),played a tape of one of Jim Davidson's stand-up shows in the car during one or two of our lessons, and would roar with laughter at times. He was a muscular dystrophy sufferer who often walked with the aid of sticks but was an excellent driver and driving instructor who always got a full book of trade by word-of-mouth recommendation alone (my mum's office job friends recommended him enthusiatically to us). He was a friendly, chatty character and amid the jokes and quips would always tell me about the ups and downs and dramas going on in his life. Once he was trying to find out the singer of a particular song that had romantic meaning for him and his partner, and because I knew a lot about the popular music hits I was able to identify it for him as You Needed Me by Anne Murray. His health was deteriorating gradually, sadly, but wherever he is now I hope he's better and enjoying a happy life.
[1:32] this song fits very well today, as we saw so many penalties at the World Cup (: ruclips.net/video/BAKsGT9-XB0/видео.html) [1:38] history is being made - the first new romantic hit in UK Top 5 [8:01] for me it was always a synth equivalent of "Stairway to heaven" for rock PLUS timeless Abba, Blondie, Debbie Harry, John Lennon, the Police, hard rock kaleidoscope ...............Thank you, sir Francis!
I think it's not crazy to consider Ashes to Ashes as a new romantic song, it was a huge influence on Steve Strange and Fade to Gray and it was an anthem in that movement.
Super Trouper, To Cut a Long Story Short, Kiss on My List, Do You Feel My Love, Life Is for Living...
Many many great songs, thanks for the video!
Excellent Excellent compilation from a great year of music 🎶 👌...

It was really great back then. Many Heavy Hits !!
This was after the horrific murder of John Lennon as to why he has 3 hits in there. His music will live on forever.
